I'm trying to work on this honestly I was told in the past you shouldn't make eye contact with the camera but i guess in a vlog style it's kind of different
@@Stevem I really like the video but I think with this kind of format it feels most natural for the presenter's eyes to be facing towards the audience. When you look into the camera you're essentially making eye contact with the audience, and this format kind of apes a more intimate, personal chat type of situation. In that situation, if the person who was addressing you was avoiding eye contact the majority of the time you'd feel a little uncomfortable and that there's something a little 'off'. That was my feeling, though I thought it was an excellent, interesting video overall(!). I think the 'not looking into the camera' thing mainly applies to situations where the audience isn't supposed to be reminded of their own presence, such as during a dialogue between two people/characters. In that instance, it can be jarring to have the 4th wall broken. However, in videos like this, the expectation is such that the viewer is a sort of psuedo-participant in a one-sided conversation. I think this expectation on the part of the audience was established quite early on in TV programmes where the host would address the viewers at home (rather than addressing the physically-present studio audience), and so we've been subconsciously primed to expect that eye contact from a long time ago. Besides, if the script is slightly under the camera and you only occasionally glance directly in the lens, then that would be enough to offset the 'staring into your soul' kind of intensity that prolonged direct eye contact can sometimes induce. I hope you don't mind my totally unsolicited feedback! I thought it was an interesting and cool video :)
