    “badabing…birdhouse”. Thank you for sharing!

  • @RonRay

    Great idea!
    Some birds (blue birds in particular) won't use a nest/box if it has straw in it already. They need to build it from scratch. If you WANT blue birds, look in the box occasionally and if there is a "dirty nest" (containing feathers/plastic/trash), pull the entire nest out or the blue birds won't use it. I'm sure there are other birds that are particular as well. Also, never use a "perch" on a bird house: predators use the perch to get at the birds/chicks.

    My suggestion is install the bird house on the north side of the tree or under an overhang of the roof of a bldg. If the sun hits a bird house then it is a blue solar oven.
    That's why the bird built in your hat,, it was under cover and constantly in shade.

    run the hole saw in reverse, it cuts plastic lots easier and makes a smoother hole.

  • @JanColdwater
    @JanColdwater 5 лет назад +2

    Awesome! I would just sand or slightly melt down the edges of the entrance hole and voila! A durable birdhouse in a pretty color! You could even take the label off and decorate the outside and even decorate it to be camouflaged to blend in with the surroundings! I just LOVE this idea! Thanks Jnull! I don't know how I missed this video! 👍

    I know different size entrance holes for different sizes of birds, and I think you avoid the stick on the front - that becomes a dinner stop for aggressive birds. They need to be cleaned out in Spring and Fall. I'd also worry about ventilation.

    Just a thought. You can drill smaller holes for smaller birds. 3/4, 1/2, 1 inch.........and if you keep the lid off you might even get robbins. Like I said just a thought from a birder. Love your vids.. and your family.

    Don't make the whole so big, wrens like a whole no bigger than a inch. It keeps bigger birds from invading the nest. for most birds, a inch whole is the best size.

      Isn't it rather hard to write on plastic with a sharpie and keep the black color on the plastic? It even happens on the plastic marking sticks from the greenhouse and it also happens on the wooden ones from like popsicle sticks or from a greenhouse, and further it happened on theMetal sticks from the greenhouse, I don't know what works. It's been a constant problem for me. Does anybody else have any other ideas to keep the black marker on plastic? Paint doesn't even stick.

    Liked your video. A little info for you though. Next time you cut a hole in plastic with a hole saw, get the bit started then reverse the drill and cut through in reverse. It will cut smoother, neater and won't catch like yours did..

    I have a bunch too, I keep finding uses for them, now I have another use, Thank you! I still miss the tin cans, and then they took away the handle with the hole and gave use a grove instead. I think the coffee was fresher in cans. You also have to watch those seals when buying it, if its all sucked in its sealed if flimsy its not, just like canning jars, They are all the time with busted seals.

    I like to make bird houses also. The sparrows around my house will not use a house with a hole larger than 1in.1/4. One day I found out why,birds larger than the sparrows can get in and displace them.It was funny watching a "grackle" try several times to get in.and finally give up.
