    Personally I'm not really counting performance as the most important factor anymore. Reliability and longevity is way more important in most cases. A drive should just live as long as possible because in most cases it won't be replaced often enough. People tend to just wait that little bit to long if they don't have a written service scheme. So longevity is what I'm looking for.

      Same here!

    • @seewhyaneyesee
      @seewhyaneyesee 3 месяца назад

      But everybody is only talking about the speed since it is the only thing they can showboat about. Drives me nuts at times.

    • @blahorgaslisk7763
      @blahorgaslisk7763 3 месяца назад

      @@seewhyaneyesee Speed is easy to demonstrate while longevity is hard. It's just a set of numbers that the brand publishes and to actually test them would take a very long time and preferably many SSD's.
      It's both frustrating and a good thing at the same time. It's frustrating that we very seldom get actual test data that confirms or deny the accuracy of the data the brand publishes. But it's good that they are almost always stable enough that testing the information takes that much time that no one is really able to test it.

    I think it needs to be said that in terms of "maximum bandwidth" potential. PCI gen 5 lane bandwidth is twice what a PCI gen 4 lane is. So even though the 990 EVO is PCI gen 5, it is operating at PCI gen 4( albeit slightly slower than other drives) bandwith.

    This drive is 1200 TBW , much better than other competitors.

    From my understanding looking through tons of mini PCs at least on AMDs side they all 3 PCIe 4.0 4x4. I would assume if they move to a PCIe 5.0 they would still have PCIe 5.0 4x4 since they wouldn't have less lanes available unless they are a lower end part.

    This is how I think consumer gen 5 drives should be. Gen 5x2 or gen 4x4 so on new platforms u can have 2x the nu:bed of drives without sharing bandwidth

    Hey this is off topic but which 4bay NAS would you buy as of now. I have a DS224+ and want to update. Mostly used for photos/files but would like to use it for a Plex too. Will be using the already used drives.

    Got about a third through this video before seeing it purely as a promotional advert rather than a ‘review’.
    Why not just state this at the start?

      Can I recommend you watch the actual 'review'. Also...did you not hear the intro? 5 reasons it's good and 5 reasons it's bad...dropping out half way kind of utterly defeats the point when you say that it's too positive....jeez...

    Everyone talks about the power consumption. I don’t know what the real life stats is. Maybe that’s on your other video. But on paper, the one terabyte Evo runs only .2 to .4 watts less than the 990 Pro. Is that enough to make a difference?

    I know i get suckered into the specs.
    So under dscmanagment/properties My samsung laptop says its got a sn530 sdbpnpz-512g-1004. (speeds read/write 2400/2000)
    it's full, but still never really complain about performance for my case use.
    Does that mean i can basically get the cheapest branded 2/4tb product and know that it will be plenty good enough for my requirements? Whether i put it into the desktop or into a usb caddy?

    Feels like indeed Samsung is playing it safe. Much like indeed all(!) their previous SSD-type product-releases in the past year or so.
    Almost feels like money-grabbing to me.
    Where as in the past Samsung did release some ground-breaking products, nowadays they are just way behind and "follow the crowd".
    I mean, look at the T9 you reviewed a couple of months ago, that is truly a shameful product.
    As if their designers & engineers (& marketing?) are lazy b.sterds and just slap-on a new name on old(er) technology, nothing innovative. At all.
    (and maybe they are hit a wee bit hard about the failings of their products, to which you also have reported upon too)
