    Is it me, or was most of this film a complete retread of The Lost World? Think about it:
    -Both involve a "rescue mission" to an island
    -In both films the "rescue mission" is revealed to be a farce
    -Both inolve dinosaurs released in populated areas
    -Both have a raptor attack inside a crowded building
    -Both have a child character who's related to one of the main characters
    -Both have a close-mided hunter character whose obsession with his prey leads to his death
    -Both films have hilariously idiotic characters
    Am I the only one seeing this?

      I'm pretty sure Pete Postlethwaite's hunter survives TLW, he just drops out of the film at the end of the second act because his best friend, who barely got any screentime, was killed.

    You mentioned how “small” it felt. I can imagine the aspect ratio had a lot to do with that, too. It’s the first shot in scope, which is a bad idea because it makes these larger than life dinosaurs feel small without the added height. Same with The Avengers going into Age of Ultron (and Thor 3 and Avengers 3) with regards to the Hulk.

    The rant [around 20.20] against stop gap sequels is spot on. Contrast this with Empire Strikes back, which was always going to be part 2 of a trilogy but is a great movie in it's own right and arguably the best Star Wars Film.

    You know, watching this, I have to wonder if JA Bayona (who also did the INCREDIBLE A Monster Calls) either A. Was a director-for-hire on this and barely had any influence on the film, or B. He only directed a couple scenes or so of this and Colin Trevorrow ghost-directed the rest of the movie. But either case, after hating Jurassic World so much, I swore off this series. Based on this, seems like I’m making the right call.

    • @rsfilmdiscussionchannel4168
      @rsfilmdiscussionchannel4168 6 лет назад +1

      He had more influence on the film than I thought, but also less. Basically, every time you can't see his personal touch, he was A.

    • @lescovahvalich460
      @lescovahvalich460 6 лет назад

      Trevorrow was on set most of the time, as a 'Writer-In-Residence', I shit you not. I think that's film-speak for "your terrible script doesn't actually work when we shoot it, quick write something we can". So maybe he did direct, or hung over Bayona's shoulder. I know Frank Marshall had considered Bayona for JW1, so you think they'd afford him the same freedom as Trevorrow. But T did make Universal it's highest grossing film ever so......

    I saw this movie. You are stupid if you think this is the worst. Jurassic III is easily the worst film of the ENTIRE franchise. This is far from a bad film. The only reason why someone would dislike this movie is because they aren't getting the good vibes they got from the first movie. He should mention that.

    Wasn’t Jurassic Park 3 retconned out of existence when World came out? Though, considering that film took place on the same island as The Lost World, that doesn’t change your point about another island inhabited by dinosaurs.
    Update: I was wrong. 2 and 3 are still canon. That mistake was due to me not doing more research and people taking a quote out of context and causing an echo chamber as a result.

  • @ultronemperor3525
    @ultronemperor3525 6 лет назад +1

    I hated JP 3 and JW 1 but I loved this one. For me is the best sequels. The Lost World was fun, but dinosaurs were just killing machines. In this movie they are true animals. And the Indoraptor was really badass and scary. Best villain after The Big One.
    The scene in which it roars with the moon in the background is pure cinematic art. And also the scene of the bedroom. Probably one of the best direct moments of the whole movie. Also the opening scene is probably the best of the saga.
    I also greatly appreciated the references and the dialogues taken from the novels.
    Ah, another thing. The thing of the volcano is not stupid. Do you know how many cities and settlements are built at the foot of the volcanoes? Napoli, for example, built at the foot of a dormant volcano. And the hybrids were also in the first novel.

    So many critics are going on about Isla Sorna. The island might still exist, but this isn’t a rescue mission. they send Claire & Owen there on a lie. They tell them it’s a rescue mission but the single purpose of the journey is to use Claire to get into the computer system to track and bring back the dinosaurs to be sold.

    • @FilmBrain
      @FilmBrain  6 лет назад +1

      Generally, the idea of duping people into having to rescue the dinosaurs from an extinction event generally requires the event to be an extinction. If there is a second island full of dinosaurs, it would not be an extinction event, and the plan to put them on another island doesn't work if there is literally another island. Yes, that wasn't their actual plan, but it would need to hold up to scrutiny to be convincing in the first place.

    The movie just isn't good. It's not terrible either
    The plot is flimsy and it's basically SAVE THE DINOSAURS without ever thinking about the results.
    It has this sterile soulles hollywood feel to it.
    Acting was terrible.
    Characters are bland and uninteresting and very one dimensional. Some could just be removed entirely without it affecting anything.
    The first 5 min were the best, but it's all downhill from there.
    The dinosaurs look...weird. Some look really good but most just look cartoonish. They don't resemble any animal behavior, especially the Rex. She's the main hero here, but they force it down your throat with her being the stealthiest dinosaur ever.
    The ending was just completely retarded.
    Indoraptor wasn't that bad, and the 'horror' sequence in the dark mansion was actually quite tense.
    Trailers spoiled so much. Some of the ending scenes can be seen in trailers.

The A'A Lava never touched Owen and even it did we would simply burn but he wouldn't melt, also he was wearing layers of clothing. The second half of this movie felt SO much like the crew behind Resident Evil had started playing Dino Crisis by mistake.
    Pull one thread and this whole movie unravels. Things happen purely for trailer shots or plot fairy reasons and no one, not even the dinosaurs act in a natural way (Seriously, predators don't stop to attack anything that moves when they themselves are running from a threat).
    The T-Rex is reduced to some kind of plot hammer that appears out of FUCKING NOWHERE, bites something, roars and leaves and thanks to these people there are now prehistoric creatures running free on the US Eastern Seaboard, and Pteranodons as far as Vegas, many of which are predators... and seemingly minimal fucks are given by the characters.
    If anything you went too easy on this thing.

    Personally, I found the second half (once we get off the island) to be the better part of the film. I guess because I liked the horror movie vibe it was going for. It felt like a weird gothic horror film (not surprising considering who the director is), whereas the first half of Isla Nublar occasionally felt like a 90s disaster movie. That entire volcano eruption scene just felt more suited to that movie Volcano than Jurassic Park.

Not that it would matter as for one. These aren't real dinosaurs and two they were grown in a fucking lamb I'm fairly sure you could just breed new dinosaurs from the samples in cold storage.

How does Rose manage to catch and crash into Finn from the side having had to make a parabola whilst he {already ahead of her in a similar vehicle and moving at top speed} is heading in a straight line!?!
    For me THAT is far far worse!
    I put Chris Pratt's asbestos skin down to Hollywood insistence on having the danger hyped up past impossible {which happens in almost every movie these days} and that the lava/ash cloud simply could not have been that close {watch supervolcano for the reality of what happens when a Pyroclastic Flow overtakes a CAR!}

      They do: those on the island have tranquilizer guns, and when Blue attacks a man, who pulls out a pistol and shoots it in the chest - which is rather bad when that's one of the reasons they came to the island. So with a key target severely wounded, Wheatley (the man in charge) transports the dino while never actually doing anything to restore its health; that's done by Owen and Claire, who are stowaways that aren't even supposed to be there, who give Blue a blood transfusion from a T-Rex.
      See, when I lay it out like that, it does sound stupid.

    Yeah when Entertianmet Weekly did it's summer preview of all the movies from May to August they did a spotlight on Fallen Kingdom and Bayonta was talking about wanting to take the franchise back to it's "horror roots" but... even the first Jurassic Park wasn't that scary and was much more a thrilling adventure movie where you were suppose to cheer or at least be more amused by the deaths thus why they happened to the terrible characters though at least that movie and heck every other Jurassic Park related movie at least spiced things up by having a hero character or someone we might like actually die. This balless wonder doesn't even kill off the obnoxious comic relief character and yeah has forgotten as Matthew said Jurassic Park is about the SPECTACLE. Hell this is an especially dumb move after Jurassic World was all about showcasing spectacle and epic crowd pleasing moments even people who didn't like the movie enjoyed. This has NONE of that whatsoever and yeah is by far one of the worst JP movies. I thing Lost World bored me more and at least this movie had a more definite ending and didn't have like a second tacked on climax but yeah the characters sans a couple of moments of amusing banter with lifeless, there weren't any scares and there were just dumb ass contrived moment after moment. You know that bit in the trailer of the girl Maise in the bed? How she gets there is some of the stupidest bull shit in this movie even after the whole "oh Hammond put this dinosaur island on one that has a volcano that could blow" on it. And honestly I'm getting sick of sequels who ignore these things by trying to claim certain installments people don't like didn't happen since 9 times out of 10 that means this installment will wind up being one of those. Such as this film. I mean Lost World did well box office wise but obviously no one's going to defending that film now and I suspect the same will be true of Fallen Kingdom.

Or the vegetarian hacker who we find out is a hacker half way through the film only to conveniently save the day when an opportunity to "hack" presents itself? Or how the T-rex conveniently shows up in four different instance in 3 totally different parts of the park to make its presence known (paddock, jeep chase, hunting gallamimus, saving the day by attacking the raptors). The movie where the villain takes the opportunity to sabotage the park during the one time they have actual visitors on the park and where EVERYONE would be on extra notice?
