Very well made video easy to understand. My ancestry is of Norman roots who were of course Norsemen Vikings that settled in Northwest France. I recently done my DNA I am 62% Scandinavian and 36% Celtic. The British Isles are made up from Tapestry of DNA via the Anglo-Saxons Picts Celts, Romans Normans Vikings, it’s what makes it so unique
It’s actually insane how many people’s families come from the Norman conquest
Excellent Presentation for a "New to the Dark Ages" Miniature Wargamer, like me. It was like watching an Introduction video to my new Character Forces. Thankyou.
If these people are yours and you live there then build more castles
The conquest part is the best in this video because it was important for them.
This is an amazing source of information!
Loved it. Keep Growing.❤
Very well made 👏🏽 thank you
Thank you my friend for that video
Normans somewhat asimilated, integrated, blended, evolved, adapted, and adopted with the peoples they encountered as well as somewhat subjugation and marginalization
Not really. From 1066 until almost 1400, “English” kings spoke French. Even the English language was effected by the conquest and occupation.
@@NoahBodze every language gets affected by another language so what norman’s still assimilated
@@shawnv123 Your mistake is seeing time as temporally as simply calling them “Normans,” a French word for a Germanic people who raided and razed a good deal of Europe, including Sicily, the Middle East and North Africa, the Baltics and Central Europe; and that’s just their Viking strain. Their Varangian strain became the Rus, scratched graffiti on the Haggia Sofia and fought for the Pashas for land.
I don’t think you know what “assimilation” is.
@@shawnv123 And is the world’s first pairing of the latinized Greek roots holos and kaustum - “holocaust” - the Norman harrying of the Anglo-Saxon north - “assimilation”?
How many times did the occupiers ban football, the native’s game? More than 20.
Your common names are William and Richard now because they didn’t assimilate.
@@NoahBodze william the conqueror was probably the only “evil” norman king of england cause all the ones after him weren’t as authoritarian or had an anti anglo saxon agenda, they in fact started to adopt the local peoples culture, he did the harrying of the north because the anglo saxons of the north were still not recognizing william as the new king of england and ætheling was contending for the throne and had support from scotland, norway and denmark
Could you please provide the English caption as well British English
We will be very grateful to you if you help us in this matter
Your videos are brilliant
Would’ve been nice to have had all historically accurate depictions of said people instead of 17th century French nobles etc
english copium
me watching this because i’m quarantined and have nothing else to do at 1:33 in the morning
The Norman’s were bad ass
What is the Importance of "Norman Invasion and Occupation" to the development of the History of English Language?
Thank you
Willy conquer: did he have to rewind to Rome? I’m way cooler than clumsy Claudius yo. Darn godwinsons just waiting for old king to die and grab his throne and treasures.
thank you 😌
If you can't understand watch Viking series it's entertaining also you will be fully explained
Whats the point of having auto captions if people don't even check to make sure it's not complete gibberish that's written there.
The Norman entry to Malta sort of represented the end of Norman 'domination' of Europe. Whereas in almost every European country you will see signs of a Norman past by place names and surnames - thousands of English surnames today being of Norman origin; especially Northern France too! - in Malta, there is I believe on surname that is Norman.
- Borg (from Byorg).
The Borg surname seems to be the only true Norman surname left on Malta, meaning, because it is paternal, the Maltese liked them (at the time; 1100AD). Obviously now, if you challenged the Borg surname on Malta, you'd have piss thrown at you; they are essence of Malta! But that is where they seem to have come from.
Maltese politicking seems to pinpoint that the Normans were 'guided' toward Rome and the crusades, and their efforts were sent to the 'Holy Land.'
- In no other place on Europe were such a 'dominating' bunch of individuals so fucking confused, so shocked at the native's way of life (Maltese), that they seemed to have crumbled apart in influence thereafter - with all efforts seeming to have gone in the direction of the Crusades.
- No other race of people on the Earth were more talented than the Maltese at confusing conquerors; some even said they'd rather fight the most vicious war than try to negotiate what exactly happens on Malta.
wtf happened to the subtitles?
Harold wins all day had his army not been weakened days before at Stamford bridge
The American civil war is very connected to this. The southern landed gentry derived from the Norman families in England while the northern colonists were derived more ftom the anglo and german people from England who were serfs. The southern plantation owners brought their serfs, including many celtic peoples, over to work the plantations.. Northern colonists wanted this practice of serfdom ended under the new Constitution. In order to agree to this and sign onto the Constitution, the concept of non-british serfs was introduced as a solution, bringing african slaves over to take the place of the original Britudh serfs. The civil war had much more to do with the continued tension between the ruling class of england (norman blood) in the southern states vs the newly liberated serfs (anglo-germanic blood) in the northern states. African slavery was a side plate in the war--the real contention was set in motion in 1066 in England.
This is pretty deep
Fascinating - thanks for sharing
don't think I've ever read as much craps delivered with as much assertiveness, bravo
@@iliya3110 what she wrote is completely false lol you can look it up. There was no such thing as a distinction between normans and saxons in the UK in the late middle ages, so none of that disctinction could have existed in the US.
@@bigsouth010 it's completely made up (see my previous answer), it's the equivalent of an urban legend, not actual history.

"Bayeux" is NOT pronounced "Bye-you". "Bay-yuh" is closer (though best to listen to the actual French pronunciation).

I'd like to know when the descendants of the native British Anglo Saxons will receive compensation for the Norman conquest - further; - it wasn't a 'conquest', it was a war!?
Go get it bro
The first years William kept the English magnates but as several uprisings occured in the following years, William crushed down all these rebellions where almost all of the Anglo Saxon nobility was killed and then replaced by Normans.
fucking hate the premire feature. i hope this doesn't become a habit.

The French "en" is not pronounced like the "en" in "ending", more close to "on". As in "En Route".
You say "Machinations" like you're saying "mashinations" and it's weird.
That’s how Americans say it
An American talking about European history, you could not make it up 😂
shit off some history
8:19 - 8:23 The video shows a book in Russian, presumably the Bible. It is hardly relevant to Normans)))
