I’m finally moving up to nicer .166 diameter arrows that are better tuned to what I’m shooting rather than my old incorrectly spined arrows so I’ve been looking at any resources regarding arrows and arrow building. Your cat is adorable, btw!
I recently changed to Beiter nocks from a generic "own brand" nock from my local archery supplier. I was shocked to see that the arrows were hitting high and slightly right compared to my old nocks. On analysis, they are longer nocks increasing my arrow length and draw length. Moving my clicker out mostly solved the problem but I'll need to fine tune my bow when I have a spare hour or so.
Using self nock arrows I have often added fingernail polish or a touch of super glue to decrease the spacing, creating a tighter fit. This would only pertain to wooden or bamboo arrows that were made for primitive arrows. Great demonstration!
I've adjusted my nocks by dipping them in very hot water, then opening them up or closing them in depending on which way I want to go. This only works with plastic nocks. Don't leave them in the water too long, you may melt the glue. About 10 secs is ok.
i've done this too in the past. i have encountered 2 problems with this method: 1. every nock will be different, it will behave slightly different when shot. you cant bend the ends precisely the same way every time, so you get croocked nocks. 2. the plastic becomes weaker, it will break off after like 100 shots or so, whereas the same nocks on a thicker string lasted for 1000 shots. when the nock was crooked it happened even faster. so it works, but be careful because i had dryfires because of the nock breaking on release ;)
Just had a new string put on and it was harder to pull from the get go and my brace height was longer but I didn’t have a reference point. How do I get a manual for a tachyon focus raiser from Korea. Any suggestions. Seller did not have a manual. Thanks again for all your feedback access. My daughter just gave me your “ tuning for performance “ book. I’m starting to read it today.
one test i like to do is put the arrow(with heavy point) above the nock point, and then draw slowly. a too loose nock will travel up the string. if it does that it will also travel down the string at full draw. with a single nockpoint this will become a problem as well.
As a new archer, I’m trying to understand if the large and small, or the #1 and #2, from all manufacturers are the same size. In other words, is a #1 from Easton the same size as a #1 from AAE?
The problem for me is to correctly determine the nock size combination, i.e nock diameter on the shaft end + nock grove size on the string end ... seems like almost every major arrow manufacturer has a different naming here ...
Fivics small groove is not same fit as Easton small g is not the same as Easton small pin on same string as I demonstrated today with a group of archers. Make your strings. Or at the very least get a serving tool and some different diameter threads. Then once you've found a combination that works for you, stick with it.
Nock fit has plagued me all the way through the sport.. So much so that I had to buy several different serving thread sizes just to outfit different bows with the correct nock fit.. I really wish they would adopt a standard string dimension that is the total diameter including serving.. I dont care if the bow is 20lbs or 50 lbs.. Make the dam string the same dimension.. Its not even an issue with potentially snapping a smaller diameter bowstring on a higher poundage bow just to achieve the same string diameter.. Not once have I ever snapped a bowstring, no matter what it was made off or what diameter it was.. String material is waay overkill for all bows these days..
If you are ordering strings, you can request an OD of center serving to fit your nocks properly right away. For Lg groove as for .110” OD Small is .100” OD Hope this helps
@@JakeKaminskiArchery Unfortunately not where im from .. You get pre packaged strings and its up to you to make them work.. Do me theres still a discrepancy anyways.. For example a fastflight material 12 strand vs a dacrogen 12 strand just wont end up the same thickness..So many variables that's what the issue really is.. For example I bought a new bow just last month.. A horsebow that came with its own recommended string.. All my nocks even large groove were too small for the string.. Had to buy 0.11 flex ghost serving just to reduce the string diameter to fit a large groove nock.. 18 euros for a roll of the stuff ill only use probably once or twice..
The base materials are blended from different strands, some are 3 strands some are 4. This is where the size changes. It’s the nature of the synthetic materials.
@@JakeKaminskiArchery yep.. Exactly my point..Just accept a 2 string standard final dimension.. String manufacturers must meet this critical final dimension for strings to be compatible for either small or large groove easton nocks.. I say Easton because everybody is copying those standards pretty much already.. As it stands you can make a string any thickness or size you want, and its up to the buyer to make nocks fit in 80% of the cases.. High end bow manufacturers are the only ones who stick to a certain size knowing everyone is using easton nocks.. I have 8 bows that all needed there own serving to fit standard nocks.. My last bow like I said, wouldn't fit any nock with any serving I had, had to buy the smallest serving I could find which was 0.11
I'm just getting into archery and the info in your videos is fantastic. I'm just watching everything. Great stuff!
As a starter in archery, this info is fundamental. Thank you Jake.

Great explanation 👍🏻👍🏻💪🏼
· Oh Boy, I do hope
that this nugget of information
gets lots of views from those
newer archers, out there. 💟
thanks Jake! very appreciated video
great content, really helpful and eye opener.
Very informative, thanks.

Now that I've seen you have a cat, I like you even more!
thank you
Content idea: stabilizers set up above all how long the should be. Extender vs no extender and how long extender should be and why so

Good video. Who sells different size nocks? Every nock I've tried seem to have the same size gap.
I've adjusted my nocks by dipping them in very hot water, then opening them up or closing them in depending on which way I want to go. This only works with plastic nocks. Don't leave them in the water too long, you may melt the glue. About 10 secs is ok.
I literally just finished doing this myself like two minutes before watching this video.
Never thought of that...good advice.
Thanks😎

Do you have some experience / advice on self nock usage (wooden / horn nocks made in historical style - no clicking)?

In your experience, would you say that a Victory press fit nock is more similar to a small Beiter nock or to a small Easton nock?
As a new archer, I’m trying to understand if the large and small, or the #1 and #2, from all manufacturers are the same size. In other words, is a #1 from Easton the same size as a #1 from AAE?
Can i just get new nocks and put them on my arrow or do i need different arrows too?
does the same concept apply to compound? or would you want a slightly tighter fit?
Same.
Your nock is your connection to your arrow, yeah it's important!
Is it posible that if the nock is pushed slightly out from the string at full draw that this could cause the arrows to impact left?
The problem for me is to correctly determine the nock size combination, i.e nock diameter on the shaft end + nock grove size on the string end ... seems like almost every major arrow manufacturer has a different naming here ...
Another confusing issue is nock height. Arrow diameter, nock design, top of nock, bottom of nock.....???
Kitty! :D
I'm still trying to find a

Yeah there is an issue with mm to inches when it comes to nocks it seems. Beiters are slightly larger than the easton nocks as well
