Thank you so much Kim for sharing your amazing experience with all of us.We would love to see the Northern Lights but we live in North Yorkshire .We visit Scotland twice a year but still have never been lucky enough to see the Lights! Maybe some day we will get lucky.
OMG 2:43 Absolutely LOVE the photo of you next to the gazebo in the foreground and the northern lights in the sky. WOW! stopped the video right there and just stared and admired the composition. I love that you're holding on to the gazebo with one hand as if the emotion and splendor of the experience might carry you away. Fantastic!!
Awesome video Kim! And yeah, the Northern Lights is on my bucket list!
Wow! What a sight. Lovely photography Kim and great video.
WOW Kim how lucky were you, truly amazing fantastic images and ageing a lovely well presented video
What a great idea to come back the next day and kind of re-live your experience together with your viewers. And no, unfortunately I do not live in Scotland.
Fantastic video I have watch it lots of times I've seen the Northern Lights tonight from Auchmithie there was nothing showing on the Aurora app to say the Northern Lights will be visible tonight but they were not bright green but clearly visible overhead and to the north always amazing to see them I did see them in October as well thank you for sharing your videos always good to see them ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
What a fantastic film well done Kim we are in Scotland now at auchmithie I did see The Northern Lights on Saturday night they are fantastic to see in Shetland
So glad to hear that you were able to see them. You're very lucky - many miss them when they're here :)
I'm thrilled to bits for you Kim. Thank you for sharing such wonderful, inspiring photographs with us.
Until next time... 😊📷
One of your best videos!
I would LOVE to live somewhere that you can see that. Thank you for sharing this with us southern folks who don't get to witness these amazing events.
Stunning photos.
Thank you Kim. That was amazing. We had the Aurora here too - Isle of Man - and our local photographers have taken some stunning images. I did not go out and now I am kicking myself. Funnily enough, I am out tonight to a practical/talk on astrophotography. I am really looking forward to it.
Chris Hunt Hope you enjoy the talk Chris!
Thank you, Kim, for sharing your magical Northern Lights experience with us. I was fortunate to have seen the Northern Lights while spending about a year in Sitka, Alaska, in the late '90s. It is usually cloudy in Sitka. The clouds parted for three nights in a row, and the aurora made an appearance on each of those nights. It was an experience I will never forget. Your video took me back to that wonderful time.
Never saw the northern lights when I lived that side but it's in my plans to chase the southern lights in nz next winter love your vlog and photos
Superb! Love the selfies :)
Been watching your videos for a good few months now. This is by far the best. Great images and even better memories for you.
The anticipation of waiting for the image to process after the shutter shuts while photographing the auroras and capturing a great image is so addictive. Every single one is different. Makes it hard to go to sleep incase you miss a great shot...!
Good work, thanks for sharing.
Hi Kim we love you and your videos!!!!!
Just fantastic what a night you had, your passion and enthusiasm shine as brightly as the aurora, great video Kim.
Pleased that all your efforts were rewarded......so much time must go into creating these videos......you're a natural in front of the camera.....very enjoyable
I have never seen the Northern Lights and to say I’m envious is about as big an understatements it’s possible to come out with. For me, this is your most beautiful video yet purely due to the fact it’s an experience I still have to have. You always sound full of enthusiasm and passion, but you have extra of both in this video.
beautiful images. great video!
Lovely photos. I photographed the northern lights for the first time in my life a couple of nights ago in Iceland. It was such a magical experience. They are by far my favourite photos from my Iceland trip.
That's when persistence and passion pays dividends, well done Kim ! :)
Amazing shots, well done.
Awesome Photography, wish we had something like this down under .
Don't you get the aurora australis?
So great pics!
We had terrible weather during those few of days here on the coast of Northumberland, Aurora was very bright Kp-7+ I believe.
I ventured out into the freezing cold for a couple of hours and I was able to capture a very light glow but its really not worth the hassle of catching a cold when that sky is bright.
Another great video thank you
Great video and great pictures again Kim! I especially loved the ones with the foreground interest. 😃👍🏻
I'm so thrilled for you Kim that you had such an amazing night seeing &photographing the northern lights! Wow! You can see the joy on your face & hear it in your voice :) Absolutely incredible images & love the ones when you're in them & reaching up to the sky! It shows just how much it meant to you :) very inspiring. :)
fantastic - and love that you are having such a thrill discovery - nature - and yourself-
Amazing images Kim! Indeed, you're truly fortunate to witness such beauty and be able to capture them. We get rare glimpses here in NY but nothing to this level. Lucky you! Thanks for sharing your adventure.
Outstanding vid again KG, as others have said you exude happiness whilst in your natural environment. I watched the vid starting with expectation that then hit awe & finally to total contentment. The curtaining of the NL’s was spectacular. The photo did it justice, I could almost detect movement I was so rapt. Thanks for kick starting my Sunday on such a high. Enjoy your day.
Your a natural story teller, so glad I found your channel ! I shoot the 7100 in midwest USA and once in a while Northern Lights. Enjoy your videos they are from he heart.
Very inspiring. Living in Kent, I probably won’t get to see northern light activity. All the more reason to see family in Scotland. Thanks for the inspiration, Kim!
Very nice work. Very much enjoying your videos.
Great video Kim, really nice idea to go back to the places during daylight to show us how the place looks like. Great pictures!
Beautiful video as always Kim! Your enthusiasm is an infectious inspiration to all. Keep doing what you do.
Wow what an amazing experience, thanks for sharing and truly awesome images!!
Wonderful images Kim, thank you for sharing such an amazing moment with us.
My daughter wants to visit Scotland just to explore the northern lights
Nice photos. I liked the ones that illustrated your excitement at what was in front of you. Thanks for posting 😊
Great video Kim, love your enthusiasm. A lovely part of Scotland you live in. Must get back there soon.
Congrats on your awesome pics :)
Bravo! Job well done Kim. Great photos.
Amazing images Kim. Your enthusiasm and passion for photography is infectious and this video has rekindled my desire to see the aurora in Scotland. It would be great to see a vlog on ‘the making of’ and your settings etc. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Kim! This was absolutely fantastic!
Stunning! :D
Kim I watched this vlog more than once… it is that good … that inspiring .. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Amazing stuff, really want to see the Northern Lights, great photos!
Just catching up Kim , I absolutely adore these images , and have always dreamed of seeing the northern lights , they have shown up here in the central belt I was gutted as I was working . We are lucky we dont have to go to iceland to see this . Loved seeing you in the images too . Thank you
Absolutely fantastic Kim great vlog and fantastic pics. I live in the southwest of Scotland we don't get to see the aurora as much but it is always amazing to see.
Great Story and great vlog, Kim. Keep up the good work. Love seeing your images. It's a different world than what we see here in Atlanta, GA in the U.S.
Great video. There was lots of jealous people in the North East as it was very cloudy here
Nicely done!
Another great video Kim. Down here in Margate we obviously don't see the Northern lights so I think a trip to Scotland will be something for the future. Well done and thanks.
Astral photography ... his photography is out of this world... made me laugh. Great vlog
Amazing, astonishing inspirational video, well presented, you are so privileged to live in a beautiful location, thank you for sharing👍
Great Video! Beautifully captured Aurora light. 👌🏻
Amazing shots Kim what a spectacle
Awesome! Keep up the good work.
Where is the location of your first stop? It looked so beautiful ! 😍
Love your video!
Wonderful photos! Particularly those with you!!!
brilliant work Kim , love your videos
Great shout on going to talks Kim. I'll need to check out what is going on in the south west. :-) Great video and images.
I have never seen the northern lights. Thank you for sharing Kim :-)
Brilliant! Loved the beach huts image. We didn't get lucky down here in Yorkshire, wall to wall cloud this time around!
Just discovered you courtesy of Mr Heaton. Only a few weeks ago I was in Banff, N.E. Scotland and dismally failed to witness a display of the Northern Lights. However, off to Iceland in February so hoping for lots of opportunities to make for it and get my first aurora shots.
I've understood something special happend before the news were mentioned)) Kim's face is so speakable)
lovely shots Kim great video, never seen northern lights so i really enjojed
Excellent vlog, great images - thanks for sharing.
Hi Kim liked your vid and shots,I usually go to the second beach hut going east as the flagstones are perfect for tripod and a wee bit of shelter, plus great for daisy rock shots. I liked the pagoda shot perfect for selfies. Have you tried the west beach when tide is out reflections are magic, once again good job might bump into you some night. Davide
Even got them down here in the Borders - first time I've seen them and have a cracking photo, chuffed to bits and was grinning like a loon! :D
Dammit. I'm gonna have to move to Scotland now! I did take my first visit to Scotland last February hoping to get lucky and catch the aurora, but not only was there no show, the weather was pretty awful too! I'm considering making it an annual trip though, so maybe one day I'll get some luck!
bujin1977 Fingers crossed for you! Shows like that don't happen often but if you time your trip right - you'll never forget it!
Amazing images Kim. We in Northern Ireland also had a wonderful display. Got a few myself around 7pm. Had to leave early due to cold affecting my angina
Great photos Kim what settings did you use tried shooting at night in past but results weren’t great would be great to know cheers 👍
Wow how wonderful for you Kim! You have got some fabulous images ! Ime on the Next Wales coast near Llandudno and although photographed them once (it usually clouds over) there has been nothing like that! Great vlog thanks :)
Beautiful Kim! Have a wonderful day. From Utah.. til next time.
brilliant video :-)
Hi Kim. I just finished a 12 hour shift and was too tired to go out. I’m still kicking myself yet when I started to see all the images from Fife coming on Facebook. Next time the alert is sent, I will be heading out somewhere as I’ve not seen an aurora yet.
David Sneddon Good luck David! I hope you see it soon.
Hi Kim. Your video is awesome. I have always wished I could see the northern lights. Please can you tell me where abouts it was that you went to on this video to capture this amazing wonder of nature. Thank you 👍🌌💓
Amazing images Kim not at all jealous. Can you share with us the settings that you used please.
Just what people want to hear..good positive vlogging...I wish I could have been there.
From southeast Missouri, well done Kim.
Excellent images, great video - thanks for sharing with us :-)
That is just amazing.. Are they a common occurrence in the northern Highlands or was this a special occasion (like an eclipse)?
That was excellent Kim 👏
Hey Kim, that was some show you had up there and gutted that I’ve had to miss it (work commitments, pah!). There were people down here posting pictures of the show across Loch Lomond so it must have been strong. I’m hoping to catch one soon and have discovered a great place to view it so here’s hoping I’m not working. What site would you recommend for accurate and easy to read updates for the Aurora?
Great video Kim, not managed to see the lights yet but it is on my bucket list. Sadly even though I saw that the activity was going to be high the other night, I live too far away for a quick visit. Your videos and photography are inspiring as is your enthusiasm. Thanks.
Thanks for sharing this amazing experience 😊
Good to see how excited & animated you are after witnessing the Aura.... I live in the south west, so no chance of seeing this phenomenon :'(
Great stuff Kim, all I keep getting is cloud!
Thanks for the video this is a brilliant video in fact I think it's the best northern lights photography video I've seen very inspiring great pictures
Can I ask what equipment do you use? and particularly interested in the lens? Also is it full frame
Incredible! I’m so happy for you to have that experience. I saw (and shot) the Northern Lights for the first time last month in Iceland, and even though it was nowhere near as good as yours, it was really breathtaking to see it with my own eyes. Happy New Year!
Thank you Gina. It is all about luck. It's very rare to get such an amazing show here. Happy New Year to you too :)
Why are your Videos with your new camera only in 720p ?
And your old Videos had better Audio with the external recorder.
But anyway. Good videos, keep up your good work.
Living in the Southern Hemisphere I don’t get this experience.loverly vid thanks
What a fantastic night you had! I'm so envious, but also happy for you. I've been trying to see auroras for many years, despite many holidays spent in Scotland.
Two questions for you:
- In the image at 2:26, it looks like you use flash to light the foreground. Did you ever try light-painting?
- Have you tried to take a video of the auroras?
Carlo Didier Hi Carlo, I never use flash - the image you're referring to was done by light painting. My torch light was quite harsh and the subject reflective giving the unfortunate flash appearance. No I've never tried videoing it but would love to attempt time-lapse in the future! ☺
Ah, maybe you used the torch too head on. Lighting more from the side would probably have avoided that harsh reflection.
I'd also like to try time-lapses, not only of auroras.
Thanks for the like to Maciej Winiarczyk's RUclips page. His work is really amazing.
Great shots Kim. I'm intrigued as to how you can stay still for up to 30 seconds?
ELTIN JONES The initial images were taken over 20secs and the post moonrise ones were 15secs. It's very hard to stand still for so long but manageable...just 😂
Exhilarating!
Next time, consider time lapse to capture the movement....I have seen the northern lights in Alaska and the Yukon and it is the dancing of the aurora across the sky that is awe inspiring.
