He was actually also a really great illusionist and was in the upper ranks of the Magic Circle. He could do everything he ever did perfectly, but to make it NOT work perfectly was actually where the real talent was. Often the amount of work needed for a trick to fail exceeded that of it to make it work, but he did just that with a skill. He did it so well, that the few time it actually did fail no one noticed he hadn't done it on purpose, as he was also good at covering up mistakes and improvising.
Poor Tommy that was the last time we saw him alive I saw him collapse on stage on that fateful night when he looked so frail and tired Tommy was 1 of the best magician s ever he studied Harry hoodenie but there was no one quite like our Tommy Cooper he's so sadly missed God bless you Tommy RIP
Yes he does look tired and in pain he suffered from bronchitis asthma poor circulation in his legs and a bad back his agent Muff Ferrie basically worked him to death as for the wife beating and womanizing we'll never really know the truth cause Tommy isn't here to defend himself and the media does tend to villiafy celebrities no matter how good they are or how much they are loved if he did do those things he was human I'm sure he made mistakes in his lifetime we all do so we shouldn't judge Tommy or anyone else just keep watching these videos and remember him with your laughter!! Take care and RIP TOMMY COOPER HOPE YOU ARE HAPPY IN HEAVEN WITH DOVE AND YOUR LOVED ONES😥😍😍😁
I saw Tommy, in the Double Diamond club, in his hometown Caerphilly, back in 1974. One of the countries greatest comics, and real genius of a performer.
This wonderful man's comedy was like no other.Who else would have walked onto a show with chicken legs!! So missed and adored I wonder if he ever knew how much
A genuinely very very funny man and very talented magician. His breed will sadly never be seen again. He never needed to be offensive - instead relying on talent, timing, intelligence, creativity and above all fun to provide endless entertainment.
@James Henderson Is that what you're basing your opinion on? That was one time and EVERYONE used to say things like that in those days. It's what's called comedy. It's not meant in an insulting way. You need to get off your soap box. Who are you to be offended on their behalf.
What a genius. Wish comedy was like this today. I miss the old days. I was unfortunately slightly too young to be around when he was. I’m an early 90s kid.
@Jyargurinsk Minicyzk Kopian Menias The Un-Beholden Son Of Deberiah Yrundheitl Massuvius Krasserr Why are you here if you don't like him. His daughter says all that isn't true. If you believe everything you see in these TV programmes you've a lot you need to be put right about. They are notorious for making stuff up to try and portray TV legends as unsavoury people when they are not. If you believe all that then you're very gullible. Fuck off somewhere else and watch someone you do like.
This was originally broadcast on the 7th November 1983. Tommy looks better here than he did on that fateful night just four months later, but as said elsewhere in the comments, he's clearly not the performer he was.
He only had to walk on stage and the audience were in fits of laughter. The reality was that he was in constant pain, but he managed to carry on until the end. RIP Tommy Cooper.
@James Henderson - Tommy Cooper was born in Caerphilly, in South Wales. And a bonus fact, there is a statue of him there. (Or did you mean Rhod Gilbert?)
@James Henderson - So we have a conflict of definitions. All citizens of the UK have a legal nationality of simply British. Tommy Cooper was British. He was born in Wales.
@James Henderson Tommy Cooper’s father was Welsh, and was a (some would say stereotypical) miner in Wales. Tommy Cooper has monuments in Wales and is celebrated there. Tommy Cooper is listed as Welsh on Wikipedia. Your surname is of Scottish origin, but that doesn’t seem a reliable indication of your nationality. Why the famously British Lord Kitchener is relevant I’m not sure - I’m not aware of him being proclaimed as English anywhere. He was born in Ireland, which was part of Great Britain at the time. He is known for his place in the British army. It’s interesting to find out all these tidbits though. (And most of all that Tommy Cooper is Welsh.)
@James Henderson - You are correct! I see that Great Britain refers to the ‘mainland’ of the UK landmass. I’m glad to learn that - I like and value accuracy. However, that doesn’t change the fact that Lord Kitchener was neither English nor relevant. Do you have contradictory information on Tommy Cooper’s father? He’s listed as Welsh on Wikipedia (as is Tommy Cooper himself).
Bob Monkhouse never really understood that there is a world of difference between actually being sincere and trying to look sincere. Terry Wogan suffered from the same delusion.
Around 2:08 to 02:10 he slumps down a bit and look at his face. It's very similer to when he died on stage at the London palladium. You can understand why the audience thought it was part of the act when in fact he was dying. And I don't mean his act.
Do people who post content like this just not realise that the aspect ratio is wrong? Have they got vision problems? Or is that they just can't be bothered to post proper videos.
Unfortunately some of my uploads were posted with the incorrect a/r, and the original material was no longer available . Future uploads were correctly posted. I thought it better to have the clip available to view, than remove it altogether.
I never rated him as more than a childrens entertainer who hit lucky. I know that people in the business thought that he was a genius, as did southern audiences (who`ll usually laugh at any level of trivia because of peer pressure), As for a genius, well, Doddy was funny all over the country and if you want a highly skilled and funny comedy magician, how about Paul Daniels ? Tommy Cooper was only lauded for his `greatness` down south in the home counties, whereas up north we require a harder edge to our entertainers.
Sorry but he had talent you haven’t , I don’t laugh easy but watched him live and have never laughed so much ,comedy is the ability to make people laugh and he certainly did that , not many comics now get a laugh without being smutty or worse
I've never seen a comedian since him who can have the whole audience in fits of laughter by simply standing there. Absolutely brilliant
Yes, I think so too.
He was actually also a really great illusionist and was in the upper ranks of the Magic Circle.

Jack Benny had a nice pause.

November 1983. 6 short months till his death. He had slowed down, and his timing was getting away from him, but still he nailed it.
Sid and nancy, this is brilliant thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers.

@James Henderson He NEVER used racist jokes. Name one. I watched him for years and I never EVER heard him tell a racist joke.

He was an amazing man😂who brought laughter to the world.

@Jyargurinsk Minicyzk Kopian Menias The Un-Beholden Son Of Deberiah Yrundheitl Massuvius Krasserr why would that matter
@@Trev359 why would that make him bad?
Delboy359, yes he was racist
0:47 I watch Tommy Cooper the way Bob Monkhouse does. I love him.
NO PROFANITY, NO SEXUAL JOKES, NO GROSS-OUT HUMOR...... real comedic genius!
You just can't help laughing, before he's even done anything.
Grounhog...
Just no nothing...
@@redblade43 Well, if you don't like him why are you here? Fuck off and watch some modern crap. Obviously more your thing.
watch your language, Redblade is right what he says, i agree with him.
I agree with you, so different to today when so called comics use foul language to get laughs and it's not even funny!!
Best comédienne ever can,t stop Laughin whey I see this guy
Still makes me laugh..😃
Yeah, no matter how many times you watch it, it's still funny. Thanks.
He made this world a bit brighter, just by his laugh and appearance. Hell of a comedian. ..
Love you Tom keep make them laugh upstairs xxxxxxxxx❣️❤️💓💖💜💕❣️❤️

Hi Garry. Under rated in my opinion. Thanks.

Gary...
I'm in constant pain just watching him, nothing to make me laugh.
No just very drunk
@@redblade43 Well, fuck off then. No-one's making you watch him. I'm in pain reading your pathetic comments.
He needed a few drinks before he could perform. I think he is quite pissed (drunk) here. Love his humour.
This was recorded little before he died. He was clearly not in his best.
He died on 15th April that year, less than a month after his 63rd birthday.
We miss him dearly
I love him!
one of the greatest man ever so sadly missed hope hes keeping them laughing up there
Yes, no matter how many times you watch him, you can't help but laugh.

Thank You.
any video with Tommy is worthy of full marks :D
In one word, 'GENIUS'.
tommy cooper the greatest comedian the world has ever seen nobody comes close to being his equal.
so badly missed.
He seems very sluggish. As someone has stated, it must have been shortly before he died. He was simply the greatest comic Britain ever had.
johntosh00 yeah looks old there too
The greatest? Charly Chaplin, Stan Laurel, John Cleese, Benny Hill, Rowan Atkinson etc.
john.
You mean there are worse than him!
He was drunk most of the time. He used it to hide the pain he was in.
@@henkoosterink8744 He's a different class to Rowan Atkinson.

Memory was fading..alcoholic..but still a very funny bloke...a great.
He had to have his lungs drained, a couple of times, in the last couple of years, before he died. He was in pain, for quite a lot of time.
Really?!
I know he had lots of health issues his agent wasn't much help either RIP TOMMY

how do you know, you didn't know him did you?
Tommy could tell the saddest story in the world and people would fall about laughing.
