Please correct me if I’m wrong, though I believe the reason is due to trade winds pushing warm equatorial surface water towards Asia & being replaced by cold upwelling water along West coast of Central & South America. Basically cold water being sucked to the surface along the coast of Northern South America then blown by the wind Westward.
If they had put as much effort into accurate predictive analysis as they did learning some TeReo for no reason , this may be actually been worth watching.

these guys are a joke..their te reo atempts with north american accents ...noooooooo and their predictions are always dramatically so negative.. atmospheric rivers..etc they just love disasters.. and they get get paid for this s...
