    Can you have protrusions for years?
    I have two intervertebral disc protrusions. One between L4 and L5 and the other one between L5 and S1. I was told to do cobra pose and sleep with a pillow under my back and etc.
    This has made my back hurt a lot more and feel very tender to movement and laying down, sitting. Maybe I'm supposed to not do anything at all? Or maybe flex in the opposite direction

    • @JeromeFryer
      @JeromeFryer Год назад +3

      Hello. Protrusions are different than extrusions. It would make sense that a protrusion would make sense to cause more symptoms in extension ( cobra ) because that would narrow the canal where the nerves are. A better strategy is to flex in the case of a protrusion; flexing over a big ball on your stomach is what I suggest to my protrusion patients. The cobra move is suggested ( McKenzie type movement) primarily for the discs that have extruded the disc material in hopes that it can 'retract'. Protrusions do not retract. Hope that makes sense. Look up extrusion vs. protrusion for a disc. It may help you understand your issue. Hope that helps and hope you find resolve.

      @@JeromeFryer I'm so thankful for your answer. I will see if I can find a ball that can help me with flexing that way

      @@JeromeFryer I don't know where mine are located. That's another issue. And also an important fact, I'm 23 years old and I've been having this back and legs pain since after I finished school in 2018 or starts of 2019

      @@JeromeFryer If you would be so kind, could you advise me on how to treat central(or midline) disc protrusions of L4 L5 S1? They indent the dural sac instead of the nerves going out.
