Good job on this one Austin. I had a kid that stopped by every once in a while and asked me if I needed help welding. Being a farmer I don’t weld often anymore myself but he seemed pretty eager to get into the trade. I told him to use my materials, my equipment, and get some experience working with them. Once I felt comfortable enough he could use that equipment for a side gig and I would oversee him at no charge. Just show up and be successful is all I asked. Never showed up again so I guess he didn’t see any value in that. Had another kid that wanted to weld on pipe. Had a bunch of used 6” and 8” he could have burned through, with my equipment at no charge, but he only wanted to use a Lincoln welder and only 12” pipe. In a nutshell, if someone offers to allow you a place to get experience and it costs you nothing, get what you can from it and move on to bigger and better opportunities.
Austin, your personal development messages are the most valuable videos in your collection. Most of our success comes from our attitude & mental toughness (the rest is sweat equity). It's often said that "success arrives wearing overalls."
I've even worked for a mom & pop shop building truck beds, and trailers for $5 an hour and a 40 acre farm rent free when times were hard and I was still somewhat green. I learned a whole lot from that ol' man that was more than money. I would've spent money years ago but those lessons I carry in my head still today at 53. Great advice Austin. God bless y'all.
24 years as a structural steel iron worker. 6G certified. Here in Texas, it seems like if you are not someone's relative or best buddy. They don't want you
Worked my day job till 3 today and got off early to go weld some pipe fence. It is great practice. The pay was alright but it was for a neighbor and Im getting experience!
Hook up with an experienced welder as a helper and learn from him for low bucks and learn it all you can!! Even if you have your own rig!! You can gain and then be a 2nd welder for him!! Low bucks to get going then it will happen at an unbelievable rate!! Things will work out quickly!! Then you'll be on your own, but still need that other guy to help you out!!
This is actually quite eye opening, thanks! As a ticketed welder I have very little experience in tig welding. It's something I've always wanted to learn. Maybe I'll try these tips. I won't be able to work for free though, I've got a mortgage to pay.
I went to school for mechanical engineering and am generally curious. I went into it to build engines, airplanes, and rockets. I interviewed at a few places where they put things into space but I’m close to giving up. Truth is that it’s hard to find a job entry-level job where 3+ years is not required. My dad sent this to me to pick up welding as a skill and work at McDonald’s or something. Any suggestions or ideas would be great!
I’ll tell you how lol HVAC not welding but I worked at a company for a summer internship well I was in school the next year came they said they were slow I talked to them a couple times and all they said is they were slow. Turns out after talking to the guys and not the manager or owner they were busy they just didn’t want to train someone but they were to whatever you want to call it to tell me that Then one of the guys that worked there had a heart attack and died and all of a sudden they called me because they needed someone So all you gotta do is get an internship for the summer and wait for someone to move on in one way or another now that I have my 3x5 years of experience I’ll look around or they can actually start paying me shit

Always appreciate how humble and transparent you are Austin!

Great topic !
never give up never give in
Hey could you make a video on tack welding with stick on different thicknesses of metals
I always wondered if i can get a welding job with my 10 years of experience using stick like a hot glue gun making art.
I learned to weld buying an 80 amp machine and watching RUclips by welding scrap together.
Good advice
When you test. Do really good. Do they can see you can weld. Maybe they will let you weld sockets.
Whar brand of shirt is that ?
Side question do I need to have a diesel truck or can it be gas unleaded for a rig truck?
All mine have been gassers, never been a issue
I cannot even tell if ur serious or snarky
I mean how do you not know an answer like that, how is that a question
A gaser will work
If your engine drive welder is gas use a gas truck, if diesel use a diesel truck. Refueling will be easesr.
3 years experience of welding- do you think that’s enough experience for the Oilfield?
I m thinking of starting out as a welders helper and own my own rig I think that will help get my name out there

I attended school but that was many years
New job you have to put your time in an build a rep
👍👍👍👍👍
Shits dumb, this goes for every job. Even McDonald's wants 5 years of experience from a 16 yr old
