Surrounded by this beautiful nature of Kosgai Mata and situated on top of the hill this temple was built about 500 years ago Since then devotees have started coming here it is said that once King Bahrendra of Ratanpur had hidden his treasure in this mountain of Kosgai fort in a knife zamindari But his treasure could not be found There are also many religious beliefs about the temple this temple is considered to be one of the 52 Shaktipeeths I would also like to tell you a story related to how the Shaktipeeths were born
According to this story the Yagya was organized by King Daksha but Shiva was not invited in this Yagya Mother Sati insisted on him and went to the Yagya and could not bear the insult of Shiva then she jumped into the fire pit Gave his life When Shiva came to know about this he destroyed the Yaksha of King Daksha by sending a gana named Veer Bhadra And then seeing this disinterested form of Sati half burnt body the gods requested Lord Vishnu and Vishnu ji cut Sati body into 52 pieces with his chakra Which fell at different places and it is said that a piece of it also fell on this mountain of Kosgaigarh
