Marie's thoughts on AI overviews

Some quick thoughts on Google's AI overviews (formerly SGE). I don't think they're going away. I do believe they will get more accurate. We should be paying attention to which websites Google is showing in the link cards in these.

We are in the process of taking the word "free" out of our company name after this "helpful content update". It's impossible to offer low-cost walking tours, because, as it turns out, our local, experienced walking tour guides who have always written our content have been deemed less helpful than a handful of big media companies.
And now with AI answers, the access points to organic traffic are likely to be cut-off even more. Even our branded search keywords are down significantly.
It was a good parnership while it lasted.

I think its over for informative content

I believe that this was part of why the helpful content system was originally created - Google knew there'd be less need for informational content in an era where AI gives answers based on its understanding of the world, and supported where necessary by Search.
This is why Google keeps telling us to produce original, insightful content, because that's what's worth putting in the library amongst what already currently can be found!
