- One big drawback of the tiny Baofeng UV-3R+ is the lack of a USB port to charge it like a phone or use with a power bank.
I opened up the battery and found some room to build in the Ebay li-ion charge controller.
The world of RUclips. A lot of people that post negative reviews usually have no idea what they are watching. That's why they don't leave feedback. I like the mod. Gonna give it a try.
Yes good luck! And if you have questions just ask.
I don't think there is a need to change the programming resistor. I know the standard charger is rated at 500mA output, but Li-ion batteries can safely charge at a 1C rate. This is a 1500 mAh battery , so it can charge at up to 1.5 ampere. Yet the board as shipped is actually charging my depleted battery at 0.84 Ampere (not 1 Ampere as per spec), which is equivalent to a charge rate of about 0.6C which is perfectly safe. Even the 1 Ampere rate would be fine.
This is exactly I want to do!! Thnx alot!! ❤🇵🇭
I finally have found a simpler way to charge mine via USB buddy and it works well. It is on my latest video. It does use the existing dock though
Cheers from the UK!
Unstoppable Tramp how is that simpler?
Nice modification!
Great video but no parts list?
This is a great idea...but I have absolutely ZERO idea how this is wired. Do you have a diagram?
I have changed mine now. But when I plug the charger the radio shuts down, when I unplug it won't open even if I try to turn it off and on again. I have to take the battery off then put it on again. I'm not sure if it's charging, since the battery is full. I'll try to make the battery empty by keeping the radio open for a while
My battery is not good. You think I could open the casing and insert 3 or 4 AAA ones in? I keep it as a back up so it would be nice to run it on single use batteries.
Nice mod, I might try this on my uv-5r :) Next time, use a tripod or set the camera down. The shakey camera work is probably why people gave you the thumbs down.
Thanks for the tips. UV-5R is not a single cell battery if i'm not mistaking. Its a 7,4V dual cell that you won't be able to charge safely with these boards. You need a balance charger or 2 of these boards connected to each of the 2 cells.
Because of this reason i didn't modify my UV-82.
laagvliegerv6 Yeah, I noticed that after I finished watching your video I looked at my battery. I also think that the uv5r battery case is sonically welded together, I couldn't get it apart from fear of damaging the batteries.
laagvilleger6
Sound advice.
Nice work!
I would like to try this but there are steps in the video that are not clear...eg at 1min 45 seconds...there are now two lots of red and black wires and you don't really show where they need to be soldered...any chance of explaining a bit clearer for a beginner like me...thanks!
That are the original wires from the battery cell to the charging contacts for the drop in charger, These need to be desolderd and solderd to the BATT connection of the charger board. The other red wire is the wire from the battery to the output terminals of the battery that make contact to the radio itself. I hope you understand what i mean.
@@laagvliegerv6 Thanks for your reply. I do not yet have the radio so I think it will become clearer when I open it up to have a go at this. Thank you.
Thanks. Great mod.
Thanks. I don't understand why there are people giving me thumbs down without posting a reason why.....
Doesn't that board used cut off charging at 4.2v????
where is the 7.4v version? they don't exist on ebay
Yes, they dont exist. You need a charge balance board for multiple cells. You need to monitor each cell seperate for charging. Thats why they dont exist
@@laagvliegerv6 doesn't that make this mod useless, your battery isn't getting a full charge, wtf
8.4 charge controllers exist but they're too big
@@escapetherace1943 no there are plenty single cell radio's like this. The Uv3R is just single cell 4,2v. Very useful mod for this and other single cell radio's.
@@laagvliegerv6 I want to do this on the uv5r but can' find a reasonably priced circuit for it that fits...
there is one made by dfrobot but it's 5 bucks per chip and their shipping is 15 bucks to the USA, which is crazy. Not gonna pay 25 bucks for 2 chips
Ok. Got that. Now, what I'm trying to figure out is it looks like you cut the board in half and there is no resistor. I'm I looking at this correctly?
I just cut above the resistors. So there is nothing changed with the resistors. It just fits ;)
is it the module tp4056?
Yes it is.
How did you open the battery pack?
With a metal spudger.
Or you can just buy a uv3r without the plus and has a usb port
Kalau bukan uv3r plus gimana
maybe good idea but so bad and shaky video. Sorry to say. But that ruins everything
My battery is not good. You think I could open the casing and insert 3 or 4 AAA ones in? I keep it as a back up so it would be nice to run it on single use batteries.
