- Hi everyone! Today's video is the second interview with authors on the channel this year. And in today's "conversation with author" episode, I will be chatting with Chris Wooding, the author behind The Ember Blade and the recently released The Shadow Casket. Wooding has also released many other books and series like The Braided Path and Tales of the Ketty Jay. And he's one of the writers behind Assassin's Creed: Valhalla.
I LOVED The Ember Blade, and I just finished reading The Shadow Casket, which I highly enjoyed, as well. We discussed many aspects of the series, including what inspired him to write The Darkwater Legacy, the difference between writing for video games and novels, and what Wooding hope readers will take from his books. The conversation will be spoiler free. I hope you'll enjoy watching this video! :)

The Ember Blade totally climbed way higher on my TBR. I loved his Braided Path series 🥰
I still need to read The Braided Path! I loved The Darkwater Legacy and Tales of the Ketty Jay by him! :)
I really enjoyed The Ember Blade and I’m currently reading the sequel, The Shadow Casket. Loving it so far!!
Enjoy! I loved Ember Blade more but Shadow Casket was still good!
Finally, the man himself! Nice seeing your chat, it really was illuminating. May you write many more awesome books, Chris, and may Petrik praise them all! Good luck!
Also, Shadow and Bone season 2 is coming in 3 weeks! I can't wait to finally continue that awesome tv show. Hope you also like it.
BTW I read The Crimson Queen on your recommendation, and it was a fun read. A bit dry at times, but enjoyable all the same. Looking forward to finishing the series.
Thank you so much! Glad you liked The Crimson Queen by Alec Hutson. I enjoyed watching Shadow and Bone season 1, and I hope season 2 will be even better! :)
Broken Sky is 1 of my favourite series ever. I absolutely adore it. I wish they’d made a series. Chris is a genius, I’m extremely grateful for his work.
That's great! I need to get around to reading that someday! :)
So happy to see this interview. The Ember Blade was one of my favorite reads last year. I’m looking forward to The Shadow Casket. Thanks for the interview, Petrik.
Thank you so much for tuning in! I think you'll enjoy The Shadow Casket, too! 😁
Interesting! Never read any of his books yet .The Ember Blade is getting added to my TBR . It's good to know it's a trilogy and not a bigger series 😀 .
As Chris Wooding said, this one is definitely a trilogy! 🤣
That is so hilarious, I didn’t think other people absolutely loved Grub like I do lol. He is hilarious and the best
Grub is awesome! Such a hilarious character, too.
A nice congratulation. I enjoyed it.
Thank you!
These interviews are great to listen to when I'm driving to work, keep 'em coming!
Thank you, Jorden! The next one might be with Brian Lee Durfee. Let's see if I can schedule a chat with him next month! :)
This was already high on my TBR, but now I want to read it even more! As soon as I'm in the right mood for it, I'll be diving in. Already have it sitting on my Kindle
Yayyy! I hope you'll love this series when you read it, Mina! :)
Great interview! I loved Retribution Falls and literally every book I've read by Mr. Wooding. Can't wait to read The Darkwater Legacy.
Thank you, Bryce! I have no doubt you'll love Darkwater Legacy, too! 😁
I loved the ember blade! I can only hope book 2 is just as good. Looking forward to your review
Thank you! I'm writing the review right now. I think book 1 is still slightly better, but The Shadow Casket was great as well! :)
So awesome!
Thank you, Joey!!
This guy wrote one of my most dear books in the whole world: Malice. It's technically MG but anyone can enjoy it. And the cover of that book was 3D awesome.
I read that and its sequel and nothing else by him, I bought The Ember Blade last month.
I heard some great things about his other books, too! Definitely an underrated author, imo. I hope you'll love The Ember Blade! :)
I read his books as a kid/teen. Storm Thief, Poison, Elizabeth Cray, Ketty Jay. Been waiting to start Ember Blade for years but wanted to wait for it to be finished first.
Nice. I think you'll love The Ember Blade, too! :D
Fantastic video Petrik, I loved this chat! I was planning on reading The Shadow Casket as soon as it was released, but realised that I really needed to do a re-read of book 1... and I just haven't found the time yet. Hopefully next month, I *need* to get back to these characters!
Also super excited to check out Ketty Jay sometime soon, it sound so fun!
Thanks for sharing this 🤩
Thank you so much, Esmay! I definitely think you MUST do a reread of The Ember Blade if it has been a while. The number of characters increased exponentially, and it will be good to know who's who and what they've done from the first book! :)
@@PetrikLeo That's really helpful to know, I was tempted to just dive in 'blind' anyway, but this reassured me that a re-read is indeed the good choice. Thanks for sharing!!
Currently just over half way through The Shadow Casket and it's just as good as the first
GRUB is the best of them all! :D
I haven't heard of the ember blade before but after looking it up from this interview I'm definitely picking it up.
Cheers, Mux! It's a great series! :)
@@PetrikLeo wait I'm confused, you said it's out now but everywhere I look it says it doesn't come out until may? The second book in the series I mean. Is there some special store I can't find? Lol
@@muxx2810 It's available for me from Kobo and Amazon with a release date of 16th Feb. It must have released early.
@@Rebecca.G it says on Amazon for me it's not til may. I guess the digital is out now but for the physical I have to wait
@@muxx2810 I think you're right. If I click Kindle it says it's available, but paperback isn't released yet. Sorry for any confusion!
Only read Silver and The Fade. Stand alone but great books!
I haven't read both of them. Need to fix that!
The Ember Blade is not magical? Grub used it to support incredible weight without getting bent or scratched. I thought we also saw it slice through Sorrow's blade.
Based on what Chris said, it seems like Ember Blade is made of incredibly strong material but that's it. There's no magic except that it's symbolic and gives people hope.
I loved the Ember Blade. Really Looking forward to the Shadow Casket, but the US release will fall after Tears of the Kingdom so I may read it later than intended 😂
I hope you'll love The Shadow Casket, too, Morgan! I forgot the US release date is later than the UK! :O
Does My Wooding say what the 3rd book (in the The Darkwater Legacy) is called and also does he indicate when it will be released?
Nope! He said it will be a while before the 3rd and final book is out. :)
@@PetrikLeo I predict mid 2025 when the final book release :)
I got a netgalley copy of the shadow casket, but it was the day before it got released. I needed to do a reread, so I got a copy for free. Sorry chris, I apologize!
There was no way you could finish it in one day! And I have so many arcs way past the release date that I haven't read. 🤣
Rip pandemonium
This series was pretty average no idea why people like it
Because people have different reading tastes. Simple as that. :)
@@PetrikLeo people's standards are dropping fast
