You mention using light key on a separate computer, but you never explain why…… Can you tell me why I can’t run them both on one Mac?

You don't have to. It's just generally a good idea to have different computers performing different tasks if your budget can support that. I run lights, Ableton, and MainStage all from one computer, and it's been fine this far.

I run it from separate computers mainly because my Band Director is who kicks off the ableton session for worship from his computer and I run lightkey from a different computer during my Sunday morning sessions so that i can have manual control it as well if needed. But in general you dont have to separate it.
