We don’t, unless you build your whole brand around being, “STILL Jenny from the block.” We expect people to live up to who they proport themselves to be. Jenny from the block is her whole archetype. It’s the persona that made her millions. So why use that block as your calling card, make money off of it and not show at least some equitable gratitude to the community you say made you who you are? Thats the difference.

Taylor Swift is selling the all American, girl next door, small town then moved to Nashville to get her start when in reality her dad was rich enough to invest in the deals and producers.
Pookie and Jet are selling the average girl's dream with her having met him in a bar on the expensive part of town, getting a million cosmetic procedures, wearing designer Armani and going to high profile events all on a minute video's "Pookie is looking amazing" sponsorship when they are both nepos. We are all digesting an image of people. Pretty sure a lot of the known Latina actresses like Jenna Ortega and Rachel Zegler don't speak a lick of Spanish despite their entire startup being based on them needing more diversity in the entertainment industry.

I work a very meager job unfortunately. It's not even a 9-5 because they aren't willing to pay an extra 10 hours every week. I have a degree. It's a law firm, no less. I've been told I can make more money by "going online" and selling myself basically. Whether it's YT or TikTok or OF because I have a curvy body and a pretty face. I'm also mixed race and interested in fashion, so it all tells a story I guess. It's sad that the young women we see today (because men don't need to do this as often) can make more money by strategically taking off their clothes or pretending to be someone they're not than working honestly. I can't hate people for wanting to be financially free, but it's a steep price to pay.
Taylor Swift wasn't allowed to portray anything less than a conservative Christian until she became big (she's a liberal, and doesn't speak on her religion if she is religious at all). It would hurt her image. Artists like Doja Cat are pigeonholed into the classic 90s black rap/hip hop and there's no black Taylor Swift equivalent (there's entire collections of video essays on how black women are forced to sexualize themselves in the music industry). Don't get me started on the K-pop industry and how micromanaged they are, forced to change their aesthetics every half-album and video to video. Then they're restricted in what they can wear, eat, they can't even date people because of this constant spotlight on image. Ugh. I'll stop before I depress myself even more.

Master P’s school St. Paul was about to close and when he found out he hurried and donated to them because he loved his school that much! He also did events to raise money for underprivileged kids in the area.
That's wonderful for him to do that. Our school and animal shelter was in financial trouble. Our community chipped in to help the situation. Some reached out to her and her mom for if not financial but at least help advocate to save the school and shelter. She didn't. The animal shelter closed and the school never was acknowledged. I am from Castle Hill. We grew up on Black rock. What you hear about her taking back the tip Ben left for the waitress, believe it!!! What you heard other celebrities say about her, believe it. She came from a hardworking, educated, caring family yet tried to make herself look like "a victim of a bad family situation!" She recently called her mother a narcissist and said father would work and come home and sleep! Of course he would come home and sleep, he was tired!! That's what people do! And that her mom was left to look after them cause her father had to work. Her family pushed education on all three girls but she wanted a different life which caused them to disagree. Every parent want education for their kids, it's normal. Jlo is the narcissist and have lied numerous times throughout the years in interviews about herself and life.

JLo entire career was pushed by Tommy Mattola, head of one of the biggest record labels at the time and was Mariah Carrey's s manager and husband. He was EXTREMELY controlling and abusive to Mariah. When Mariah escaped Tony tried to replace her with JLo. All of JLo biggest hits were actually supposed to be Mariah songs. Basically Tony Mattola used Jlo to try and get back at Mariah. Also alot of her songs wer written by Ashanti. She even sings vocals on Jlo tracks but we all Lopex csnt sing.
I completely understand people feeling like she doesn't need to, or isn't obligated to donate to outreach programs or donate to charities that support the area but with the FREQUENCY that she CONSTANTLY mentions this place, you would THINK she would want to give back to that same community. If you care about the place where you came from, wouldn't you want it to be better?
I was saying this to someone earlier but this is where she and Beyonce differ. If what they said about her upbringing is true, Bey and JLo had similar upbringings. Both went to nice schools, both lived in "nice" houses, so on and so forth. Difference is Bey is always humble and constantly gives back to the places she comes from and her roots, in everything she does.
She doesn't just mention where she came from, she is actually ACTIVE in her community and donates to a number of charities and programs and schools as well as working through her own charity Beygood. On TOP of that, people who have met her have nothing but amazing and gracious things to say about her and her mother Tina who is often by her side when she is doing work in her hometown of Houston. In fact I think she got honoured there recently.
I don't think JLO cares much for where she came from as she says she does.
I was reading once that beyonce build like housing for single mothers and I that was really nice to know she was giving back like that. I feel like a person who mentions where they come from so much has a love for it and I was surprised to find out she doesn’t donate and that her old school closed due to funding or lack thereof. That’s insane to me but I also understand the sentiment that she doesn’t owe the “block” anything. I agree that one would assume that she’d want to support a place she “loves” so much

My husband and his family are from the Bronx and they are very smart, very responsible and the most resourceful people I know. Also the strongest and brave AF, This idea that the Bronx makes bunch of under educated downtrodden poverty stricken “kids “who are trying to escape hasn’t been a reality since early 80’s at best. She knows this. The only reason they’re trying to escape is because of what goes on outside the Bronx and the cost-of-living.
The Bronx is the poorest borough in all of NY. That’s a fact. The people ares resourceful and that’s good. But no one is making it to a comfortable lifestyle and staying in the Bronx. A lot of people in the south get married on a plantation. It ain’t right and tasteless for sure but very common.
That’s because they want an Antebellum theme wedding and plantations are maintained enough to provide that aesthetic. I’m actually ok with this because it means the plantation has a source of income aside from tour groups and the funds can be used to further maintain the plantation and educate visitors so no one forgets what out ancestors went through. Call it tasteless, but it’s serving a purpose.

Would you want the concentration and extermination camps to close down because we have history books? For slave auction squares in the US where slaves were sold as property to be bull-dozed? The highlight of Black History Union at the University I went to was going on a multi-state trip to plantations, slave auction squares, and places of historical importance for us to see where history happened and further learn about it up close. If places of historical relevancy close down because you guys are too scared to show reality it’s going to be a disservice to our future community members to not see our history up close. No book can capture perfectly what you can experience in real life.

She isn’t a young woman anymore, so it’s probably time for her to step down and allow some of the younger, more beautiful, more relevant Latinas to step into the spotlight.
Her age is irrelevant. Plenty of older Latinas are still doing their thing, but they don’t have this horrible attitude and they aren’t pretending to be younger and more relevant than they are. I’m honestly shocked that people still want to see JLo half naked. Even Salma Hyak knew when to switch to more modest roles, and she had way more attention than JLo ever did when she was in her prime. It just goes to show who is actually respected and who is known for one thing and one thing only cuz JLo surely isn’t known for her voice. It’s actually kind of funny. My sister’s ex did sound for JLo a couple years ago, and he said that she looks her age, but you’d never know because she wears a lot of makeup on stage and uses filters.
