Serious job searching is always hard. I once sent out 200+ applications in a month and it almost caused me a burnout since I wasn't totally sure about the exact job I was aiming at. But after extremely slimming down my search and sending out 4 applications to very specific positions, I got 1 response, which landed me a very good job. Keep your chin up guys, and keep your job aim!
Been looking for a job for three months now. I'm still up by 6:00 A.M. every morning; showered, shaved and dressed by 9:00 A.M. before sitting down at my computer. Keeping a routine every day is vital.
@@bigbadbillb That’s great. I love hearing a happy ending and hopefully you’ll be able to stay at your job for a while. I lost my job yesterday, although I was already looking on my own along with working with three staffing agencies. Trying to stay upbeat, speak positively and taking things one day at a time. My friends have been super supportive.
@ascott2168 I'm sorry to hear this! Been there, done that. There are a lot of good videos here on YT about dealing with job search anxiety and how to cope that I found helpful. Hang in there and stay strong 💪.
Something I tell myself when I get rejected is that even though the job seemed great the work environment was probably toxic. That helps me feel somewhat better
Once went through a horrific interview process for something I truly wanted and could have been very successful. Interview was a flaming $hitshow. No engagement from the interviewer and during the actual interview a " you probably have never heard about x" when it was an industry standard!! Everyone acted dismissive angry and awful. I'm in the middle, chipper as pie, polite, hardworking and talented. There was zip engagement. Interviewer never looked up at me. I'd finish a response and wait and wait and the grudgingly be asked another question. I felt like a comedian on stage bombing. G-dawful. They strung me out for the entire 3 day long waiting period and then I got the "thanks but" email. Here is the thing. Job process started in oct...job started on Jan. 5 interview round. I made it to level 2, whereby my credentials and exp checked out and I was at the next level getting a look at the team. Whew...dodged a serious bullet. I've never seen a ruder or more unprofessional bunch. I can't imaging trying g to work in an atmosphere like that. The 5 interview was a flag as well as the hour long "project" I was going to complete as part of round 3. It was an insanely bad Interview for a horrible company. Sure the job and $$ were great but that group omg...I can't imagine spending 40 hours weekly out of my life with such a horrible group. So although disappointing and harsh at the time, in hindsight..well we see the hand of g-d clearly in the rear view. What is meant for you won't pass you up.
Even when I got rejections, I got some amazing feedback. I lost out on a few jobs to internal applicants, but received feedback that I had interviewed well, that the hiring manager(s) liked me and I had a lot of the skills they were looking for; I was encouraged to apply for the role that had opened up due to the internal promotion on both occasions. I ended up not pursuing further because I had another amazing offer elsewhere that was too good to pass up.
Thanks so much for this video .. I've been on the job hunt for three months and it's become an obsession.. I'm starting to experience burn-out big time and didn't know it existed until I come across your video .. lately I've been doing the 9-5 job search routine .. upskilling myself .. but lately it's become an obsession.. I'll check my emails and various job sites in my down-time and often between 9pm to 12am .. I'll wake up in the morning and do the same thing .. even before I get to the laptop .. and of course, weekends. Funds are becoming tight so I panic and just keep looking at the market.. and the more I look, the more I doubt.. so your video helped!
Thanks for the great points about being truly mindful or yourself during your job hunt. The job search is grueling to say the least, an experience unlike any other. Protecting your mental state and thinking of your self is so helpful in this journey. Thanks again for the video!
Been job hunting for 5.5 months so far. Currently at 400+ applications, 18 interviews and ZERO offers. Ngl, the burnout and demotivation is starting to get to me.
Thank you for doing this video. I have been searching for a new entry level job and it's so frustrating. I am already starting to experience burnout after only two months.
What a great video! I have a job and have been looking for another one for almost a year now. The company that I work for is going under sort of speak. They refuse to hire, people are leaving in drones. I'am past the burn out stage but in my heart I will never surrender. I will stay in the ring and keep fighting, and so should all of you! I'am one tough Mom!
I want to thank you because your videos helped me secure a great job offer after being laid off a few months ago. After months of interviewing and dealing with countless rejections, I accepted a job offer that is considered hard to get. I want to thank you for all your excellent job search and interviewing videos. So much value and so many nuggets packed in each. It helped me greatly to be persistent, selective and confident. Thank you!
I've been through this for years. One thing that helped... Get a part time job. I drive a school bus (had to get a cdl!), and having something and somebody else to think about is huge.
Thanks for this video, Im struggling to be positive and this video really helps. I got layoff recently month but lucky enough I manage to get around 20 interviews in 2 months sadly no offer yet, mostly my experience is being ghosted by the hiring manager (s). Job hunt is a mental stress!! Trying hard to stay positive but using these time to start side hustle and talking short course on LinkedIn just to make myself occupy. Plus I am trying to have a career switch. Really praying hard for an offer now, my saving is getting lower I might to be able to pay my bills soon. 🙏
I appreciate you positivity. It's a nice pick me up hearing this from you. The PTSD, anxiety, depression, and other issues really can bring a person down. Going to keep working on myself to keep it going. Thank you. 🙏
Thank you so much Bryan! And I love that story about your friend. You got to shoot to score. As someone who likes to play basketball 🏀, that absolutely makes sense.
Because there are more employees that fit the requirements and only one can be selected. There are more people out there so it seems like if 100 applicants apply, that 99 are no good..which creates this idea that the 99 are not valuable.
LOL the bar story: completely true but I would NEVER want to EVER date a man that had a dartboard theory. I've been in interviews when the hiring person didn't even read my resume, showed rudeness, etc. This past Friday was the first time in a long time when the conversation was so natural and there was enthusiasm on both sides. Still waiting on an answer!
To quote your message, “If you’re not in the right place at the right time, you’re not going to be seen.” It’s luck. How do you create your luck? Preparation,Planning, Persistence.
What you say sounds logical and reasonable. It really helps put difficult things like failure and rejection in perspective and look at them objectively when otherwise it's too easy to be blinded by emotions.
Thanks for the video! One of the best ones about this topic I've seen so far. Been looking for a job for six months, taken 10 interviews and still no offer and it's difficult to stay positive.
problem i have is i live alone. no friends. single. sure i go to the gym however aside from that i have nothing and i can’t be just running around spending money until i start working cause i’m living off savings at this point
I confirm the 1-5% response rate. Applied to 100 jobs in 2 months, got 3 interview invites, accepted to go on 2 of those, and failed both. (3% response rate)
I just got rejected from a potential employer today after an interview - the funniest part was that the hiring manager said he got more of a "quality engineering" vibe from my resume rather than design engineering. I wish I could say that was useful feedback, but I know that that couldn't possibly be the real reason considering I've never done quality engineering and I've worked as a design engineer (pure design) for 4 years. Also doesn't make any sense because he clearly thought it was good enough to bring me in for an interview, so why now would he suddenly change his mind using a reason that makes no sense?
I got rejected though I got good feedback. It hurts like hell, but the thing is that you don't find out about this unless you experience it. There is nothing logical about how companies choose a certain candidate. It's like gambling. Hang in there🌼
