Yes, those flexi-files are really useful. I picked up some many years(15+ ?) ago. Good at getting into tight areas as well as dealing with curved surfaces..
So I'm watching this while eating breakfast with my tablet on my table and I realize...this is very much like astronauts Bowman and Poole watching the screens built into their table watching entertainment programming while eating their paste in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
+Dale Thelander Thanks Dale. Lol....Yep we may not have jet packs but the internet, along with tablets and cell phones all came true. Thanks for watching
+Interstellar Modeler another great build I just see Lou Dalmaso built over at Aztec Dummy your build and his are extant great job to the both of you as soon as I get my Cylon raider done I will probably start my eagle once a gain great video build
I'm really enjoying watching your build. A small observation: Based on the geometry of the landing pad and bottom of the pod, I always felt that Brian Johnson designed (although never shown) the pods to lower and the pads to recess into the pods when the Eagles were in the hanger being serviced or parked.
Looking at the way the landing pads are shaped in comparison to the bottom of the pods, it always gave me the impression that they were originally meant to be retractable. It looked like when they were raised, the pad would seal off the bottom of the pod. Obviously they decided not to do that, but why else have the pad look like a perfect cap for the bottom of the pod?
I totally agree. I've seen a few artists create images with the landing gear retracted and it sure seems logical. No doubt the mechanical limitations and budget would have made it challenging to depict that on the show.
Great update. Not sure I like that sanding tool. It seems the hand is too far from the work but maybe it just looks that way. One minor criticism, the quick camera moves started giving me motion sickness, maybe ease off a tad. 😂
Great Video... Ive just purchased one of these kits and i'm really looking forward to getting stuck in, I have trouble finding the size of spring on ebay though :/
Hi Phil...thanks for your kind comments. I would highly recommend joining the Space: 1999 Props and Ships page on FBook. There are a lot of resources there including decal templates you can use to print your own. I have 2 of mine there in their file section. Also there are a bunch of people who know where to get a hold of those springs, even softer ones that I used (which I'd recommend). Lots of people who've repeatedly built this model are there too and can answer just about any question you may have. Enjoy the kit....it's a fun one.
Thanks fella, I have indeed asked if I could join and am in the process of waiting to hear back from them. I am now looking into a decent airbrush to use, could you possibly recommend one?
Phil Lines The Patriot 105 by Badger. So easy to use and maintain. I think they sell them at Michael’s Craft stores and w/a 40% off coupon it could be a good deal
Hi, love your videos. I was wondering if you used the supplied black decals for the areas around the attitude thrusters on the shoulder pods or did you paint them? Many thanks.
Thanks....sorry about that. I have since placed the camera on a tripod so hopefully you'll find my later videos not as troublesome to watch. Thanks for the comment and for watching
Looking excellent as usual. Can I just ask, what are you using to apply the glue with? It looks like it gives an ultra precise result. And how do you stop the glue going solid in the needle applicator? Does it come off so you can soak it in thinner or something?
Sorry for the late reply. The needle applicator comes with the Testors cement. Keeping the bottle upright with the cap on usually prevents it from hardening inside the needle. Thanks
Its been 8yrs since this build so i dont exactly recall. If you’re interested in putting springs in, i would recommend inquiring at Space 1999 Props and Ships on Facebook. Lots of modelers there who would have a better recommendation. These particular springs were too stiff. Thanks for watching
@@InterstellarModeler Thanks for the quick reply. I'm thinking the original ones are stainless steel and that's why they're rigid and other alloy ones would probably be not so rigid, but I'll check the props and see, thanks!
Great video but man, it made me cringe when you talked about the spring falling off and getting stuck inside the landing pod! That would be something I would do so thanks for the warning. :-)
@@simongbutler This kit was released by MPC as well. Everything is identical even the box. Round2 is another name for the same company. The instructions I have only have the Round2 address but maybe you could find one for MPC
This one in particular was a 6 Round brush. I recommend not using an expensive brush with pastels as they do become frayed especially as you apply it to areas with a lot of contour. This brush is somewhat pointed, not broad, which is what I need for most weathering. Although...there may be times when a broader brush is called for if you're applying to a larger surface area. Hope that helps.
Great video, l'm a newbee and I would like to know if you paint with a white color the four pods before using the pastels ? And other little question, do have one link for buy the same pastels than you ? I've found this stuff, is it the same pastels than you: i923.photobucket.com/albums/ad71/Skullr01/518lDZ0AoyL.jpg In advance a great thanks...
Hi and thanks for watching. Yes I painted the pods before applying the pastels. Just handle carefully as you do so to avoid smudging and periodically stop to apply a light dull coat after removing the masking tape. As for the pastels...those are exactly the ones I use and you can get them on Amazon. Sometimes Michaels Craft store carries them as well.
Hi again, thanks for yours explanation it's super... Concerning the red stripes please can you tell me if you use this kit: www.culttvmanshop.com/Eagle-148-masks-from-Aztek-Dummy_p_3525.html Also for paint in white the Eagle body you don't have use the airbrush but one spray it's better ? Once again a great thanks for your help, best regards. Olivier
Hello again. Unfortunately that kit wasn't yet available at the time but I'd highly recommend it. Also recommend checking out Lou Dalmaso's channel (Aztek Dummy). He shows how he used that kit to make his stripes. As for painting the hull color, I went with a Duplicolor spray can because they had many shades of whites available. No mixing needed. Many were recommending a color called Ford White which apparently has a slightly grayish tone to it. I chose the Duplicolor white which I thought would be closest. If I ever use a rattle can I often choose the Duplicolor brand because it seems to go on the smoothest. They're found at auto parts stores. One thing to be careful of is the nozzle. Duplicolor cans come with a particular type of nozzle that sprays differently so I would recommend practicing on something before applying. I do use an airbrush for a majority of my builds however. Hope that helps.
Hi, excuse me for the delay of my answer... I've watched the Lou Dalmaso's channel and the explanations are perfect +1... Concerning the liquid cement please can you tell me if I can use the same glue for all the model's parts ? If I can use the same glue for all the parts of the Eagle, I would bought the same like you: www.amazon.com/Liquid-Cement-Plastics-1-oz/dp/B0006N6ODS Also please can you tell me if this glue is instant adhesive or I must wait many minutes or few hours ? Many times for other models I've used the "Super Glue Loctite" but please can you tell me if it's better to use the same liquid cemant like you or "Super Glue Loctite" as we can see with your video ? Once again I would like for your assistance, best regards. Olivier PS: Please I'm really sorry for my poor English.
You can certainly use super glue with any plastic model. Instant adhesion can be both a blessing and a curse. The Testors cement is not instant adhesion and that can be helpful if you are piecing parts together and for some reason they don't end up aligning properly with your first try. Since it takes a little bit of time to set, it gives you the chance to pull them apart again and realign them with little consequence. I do use Super Glue as well if I am absolutely sure with the placement. Superglue is also a must for resin parts, if you ever decide to work with that type of material. One additional advantage of the Testors needle applicator is that it allows you to apply a very controlled amount of cement which is helpful with smaller parts. So my advice is to have both adhesives handy and use your judgement when deciding which one to use. For most of this build, I relied on the Testors cement.
Sir you are the Bob Ross of plastic model building. Love your videos.
What an awesome compliment...thank you so much
The Eagle build is progressing nicely. Love the workable landing struts.....so coooool. Enjoying this build series immensely.
Bill.
Thanks! You're gracious and generous with your skills and insights. Always impressive.
Youre welcome, thanks for the kind words
Nice tips on the landing gear

just a quick question what are you using for a sealer for your pastel chalk? really enjoy watching your videos. Really good work.
+Manfred Knorr Yeah I'm sorry....I will try very hard not to do that. I hate it also. I realized it when I was editing.

I think I missed the base color you used? What are your thoughts on insignia white for the eagle?
I would recommend insignia white. I used it on the last Eagle I built and I think it looks pretty good.
@@InterstellarModeler My landing gear decals are falling a part on me too!
Very frustrating!
I like your usage of the pastels vs. using an airbrush to paint the same areas. Do you lose much of the pastel when you spray the sealer?
No but u do need to apply very thin coats
Looking excellent as usual. Can I just ask, what are you using to apply the glue with? It looks like it gives an ultra precise result. And how do you stop the glue going solid in the needle applicator? Does it come off so you can soak it in thinner or something?
I second this question!

Hi , got a question for you all , did anyone had to order parts from Round2 company? would like to have feedback about it .
Although I’ve had to do so, i’ve heard round2 is pretty responsive.
I contacted them regarding parts for the engine tanks cluster that I made a mess of. I would have gladly paid for the parts but they never responded.
