Just wonderful. Growing up in a home with such music hovering in the space- has made a lasting impression on the family and future generations. Priceless. Coming from a home where music accompanied everything, from chores to worship - there’s no replacement for such a home accessory. 🎻
Brings back memories of my mother and siblings singing southern gospel in church in NC and Tennessee. Two of my brothers have passed on also my daddy. Sad but wonderful memories.
Gosh does this bring back memories! My mom and her family were music folks. The family, friends and neighbors would gather in sometimes on Saturday afternoon. Mom cooked and the women would bring in dishes. They'd eat, visit, then set up to play music. They would play way into the night sometimes. The women would clean up the kitchen but leave the food on the table with a cloth covering- you can't do that today! Folks would play and sing, then talk a spell and eat a little more. Those videos you have are so precious. How I wish I had some from those good times! We kids would play outside then sit and listen to the folks singing, playing and telling stories from their lives. Kids were seen not heard back then, but we loved hearing the grownups talk. I still remember some of those stories. Thank you so much for sharing this precious piece of your family history. I so enjoy your and the girl's videos. Stay safe and GOD bless
I absolutely love music and I love this reminded of the good old days of growing up and going to friends house on Sunday afternoon and playing the guitar and singing o what sweet memories thanks so much
So touching what memories for you i know it was in the .month of April you lost your Dad May God's comfort be near you and Pap would be so proud of you I'm sure What a legacy and what a family 💜
That was awesome I really like it never heard of it and that brought back memories on my part my dad playing in a band back many years ago totally country that brought tears
Tipper, not having grandparents in my life, your sharing the memories , music, stories fill me with awe. I wouldn’t change a thing but realize there is an emptiness. My daddy would sing to us . Mexicali Rose, You can’t be true dear, He could whistle like a canary, open an apple with just his hands., Having only him ,as a child ,and losing him at 17 . He’d clean our faces with spit. Comb the “rats” out of our hair. Take off on a Sunday drive with a candy bar and a pop. With the canvas water bag for the radiator.....
I’m a 37 ur old woman from Abilene TX and I just love this type of music, all my friends think I’m crazy. I think I was born the the wrong generation!! I have always had a fascination with Appalachia and recently found your channel. I also found out recently through a DNA test, that my ancestors were settlers in Virginia from England/Scotland/Ireland, that would explain my red hair and freckles and my love of your part of the country. I love how you are trying to keep your culture alive👏❤️👏
thank you so much for sharing this. Gave me big chills. This is a beautiful tradition that I hope never disappears, I just don't jive with the new modern sound most people lean towards. This is free of pretense, show boating or contrivance which is what has been lost in some modern approaches to music. Thats what makes this a spiritual experience, it clearly comes from the heart and is such a blessing to have people playing and singing like this while you're growing up.
My mother is still with us. I remember her playing guitar and singing Barbara Allen. Wish I had a recording of it. She had to have surgery on left hand and was no longer able to play. We children would harmonize with her.
oh,Tipper... you make me cry. lol tears in a hiraeth way. i feel you longing for those days. i listened to this on the porch, as its spring in the mountains and the sun going sown, while birds singing. it made me feel the days of old whn the radio would have been playing and this beautiful music you shared, came across it, into the night air. thank you for sharing your families memories. many thanks to Paul for recording this. that little rocker is a "sewing rocker". the ladies would sit and do hand piecing and sewing, thus the armless part. im a quilter and have always loved the little sewing rockers and handmade chairs from days of old.
I'll be listening and watching this, when I start missing home. Thank you for keeping a lifeline from home for me. when I get feeling low, I look to see what you are up to.
That was so great. Not sure where we lost this beautiful music in our culture, but it sure beats 99% of what we hear today. In my youth I would sit and listen to similar music on my radio in my room late at night. The images created stirred my imagination. I'm not sure what duo sang the song "Just before dawn" but I think it was the Louvern brothers. Also listened to Patsy Cline sing "Walking after midnight". Moment like this are what binds families together for all time. Thanks Tipper
One my favorites. Is. The wild woodflower. But I love that old time music. We just used to call it front porch music. I grew up listing to the likes of the Cherokee three. Up. On old socco. Near the old dairy queen. Or over close to alarka at winchesters old general store. All them, old boys used to gather there and make music those days are long. Gone. But I still love that old mountain music. And so many good memories. We'd get out and buck dance. I remember CD hains one of the best buck dancers I ever saw. Oh well. Thanks fir sharing. Y'all take care now,,,
@@CelebratingAppalachia it was my granmothers favor rite song, she always requested Charlie to play that song for her. When we went to,listen to the Cherokee three. Up on socco back then they just got out on,the sides of the road and Made music. Maybe pass a hat around. If,n you wanted to leave a tip. I'm sure y'all making some mighty fine music there. Wish i was there to hear it myself. god bless
M y Grandad Hobart Campbell sung that song .. there's a hole in the bottom of the sea.. as his grandkids we loved it. I absolutely love to here your Pap and Paul anyting their voices are so pure❤❤
Tipper, I bet you don't have a single viewer that has never experienced a loss. While listening to you reminisce about Pap, and describing items in your parents' house and how they hold special meaning to you, I could feel the lump in your throat as you were overwhelmed with emotion. We have all experienced those feelings; loss, nostalgia, reminiscing, etc. You have a wonderful way of telling your story, Tipper, in a manner that encourages your viewers to reflect on their own past. Although the title suggests this video is about an old recording, I feel it's a lesson about the cycle of life. I really enjoyed this one, Tipper. Thank you.
So well said Roland and so many of us agree with you. I had totally forgotten about A Hole in the Bottom of the Sea. We used to sing it so loud to try and bust paint off the walls!!😂😂😂
Your Pap had a wonderful voice and played the guitar so well. And Paul is no slouch. I was singing along with his part of the harmony. Thanks again, and take care
