An extraordinary girl with a sharp mind and a vivid imagination takes a daring stand to change her story - with miraculous results. Meet Matilda.
I knew Emma Thompson had range as an actress but man the way she altered her voice during this song to fit the character is just beyond impressive. Especially the way she hit the last note. If I hadn't known she was playing Trunchbull and just heard the audio by itself I don't know if I would've recognized her
Halfway through the movie i was like- “…holdup…is that… NANNY MCPHEE?!?!!”
@@hiddensmile7190 Yeah what would Nanny McPhee have to say all about this💀💀😂😂
@@tcc_grandpaman4669 She'd probably be horrified on the way ms. trunchbull disciplines children compared to what she does haha
Im not surprised that she's brilliant she's just a 2 time academy award winner !! 🤣🤣
WAAAAAITT WWHHAAAT?? @@hiddensmile7190
I love how she gets both hated gym teacher archetypes in there: Driving around while the children suffer, but then only using that to _conserve her energy_ to destroy them on the obstacle course. Genuinely one of my favorite "just plain evil" villains since Cruella.
Trunchbull would have destroyed them even if she had been running with them from the start. She went through the entire obstacle course without being out of breath at all. Running a bit wouldn't have made a big difference.
@@VarjoFilosofi Yeah because she is an adult.
🌺💮😍😘👾👄👙🦄🐽🐖🐷🍧🏩🎠
@@Isabelle-hv6ny Yes but also Trunchbull is also a former olympian and a physical specimen who hammer throw kids like they're nothing.
She would destroy most humans beings out there.
Yes. Trunchbull is so powerful, she threw the hammer above the stands. She wouldn't even need one percentage of her power to defeat Goku.
It is very significant that the Trunchbull eventually passes through her own obstacle course, and even with brilliance. She can be mercilessly cruel, arrogant and harsh, but she isn't "softened", she is still in very good form.
I agree, though for me the most significant part about it is that she created this obstacle course that clearly only she could beat just to stick it to a bunch of 5-6 year olds. To me it further affirms that she’s just so insecure and jealous of other people’s joy, happiness, and success that she has to constantly display how far she is above pretty much the weakest (or so she thinks) group in society. She has to convince herself she is “better than” so she picks a group that she can (almost) always beat.
She also cheated
@@evelyncolon5497while that seems true, it can’t be because she even competed in the olympics which is not filled with people losers can beat… she was even the best hammer thrower
@@Bigman531 I’m not disputing her insane physical ability, but the fact still stands that she is intentionally lording her physical capabilities over people that have none (small children) so that she can prove that she is “better” in general, as a human being, not merely as an athlete. It even says at some point in the film that Agatha was jealous of Magnus and her sister’s success in life and that is why she made them perform the “most dangerous feat ever in the world, ever,” hoping to destroy them. She clearly has major insecurities about her own life and success despite her accomplishments.
@@evelyncolon5497 yeah ur right thx for clarifying
3:13 that part was really funny 😂. How the woman who was looking so aggressive and dangerous suddenly goes into a beautiful song and becomes beautiful herself.
Literally funny😂
That scene kept having me in stitches l
I always thought of this "world without children" part as some kind of backstory for Miss Trunchbull. She may have claimed she was never a child in the original book, but that's obviously an exaggeration. I think that she used to be a happy kid who lived in a Circus, but the pressures of being a Circus performer pushed Agatha into a more strict and violent person, To the point where she competed in The Olympics. This Zeke fellow may have been her friend in The Circus, along with the horses she mentioned, but she unfortunately lost both the Parrot and Horses. At that point, she snapped and only saw herself as a Supreme Ruthless Woman who was always mature and never little.
I did not expect that I laughed so hard Xd
My mom was literally laughing at this part!
IM SO OBSESSED WITH THIS SONG AHHHHHHH!! the explosions after (almost) every “discipline” was amazing, with emma’s voice being so powerful like DAMNNNNN! the rhymes were just MMMM, and the part where trunchbull was on the swing got me cackling. i had to rewind so my mom could take a video of it!😂 “dont let them steal your horsesss”

Matilda the Musical is so underrated
I was in the show in the ensemble as well and all of the songs are fire 🔥🔥🔥

I love the part where she is climbing. The vocals are beautiful
its so beautifuk
So do I, I actually made a comment about how the music in the background signifies they’ve pushed her to far beyond her limit and to signify this the vocals are powerful and the music is loud and heavy so I think they really made a smart move with the final part
@@garrettgriffith9364 yes!!!

Probably the nicest thing she does in the movie, even if she's the one who led her there.
She doesn’t even notice that Amanda still has her pigtails
3:49 I really like the instrumentals in this part cause it shows they’ve pushed Agatha to her limit and her vocals are truly just magnificent and so powerful and also notice how loud and heavy the instrumentals are like I said it shows they pushed her too far
I cracked when I saw the Trunchbull with her hair down and with make up 🤡 😂😂😂😂😂 but I love how Emma Thompson did an outstanding job of making her character look like the exact replica of the Trunchbull in the old Matilda movie. 👏🏻
LOL Me too😂😂
The 1996 movie and this one's Trunchbull are basically the same that in the book illustrations
Yea same😂
She needs to wear shoes too😂😂😂😂
@@rayesgrandevalleyjr.2882 True😂
Watching this with the assumption that the "don't let them take your horses" part of the song was Trunchbulls inner "horse girl" child morning the loss of her own childhood. (assumably her parents were stict and abusive just like she is) turns a really funny out of nowhere moment into something really tragic and sad...
It would be really cool if they made a series about Trunchbull and her childhood into adulthood. It would be interesting to see why she became who she is, why she wanted to run a school but hates children, her Olympic days etc.
But the Trunchbull was never a little girl! She says so in the book!
@@Acetrainergold96 yes, but the bit about a carnival freak and horses makes me think she grew up in a circus

THE FACT THAT SHE GETS EMOTIONAL AT 2:36
Morri de rir nesse pedaço! Kkkkk
Ela simplesmente sonhando com um mundo sem crianças e o quanto isso seria lindo kkkk
3:10 is probably the weirdest part of the entire movie. It’s just weird to see an arrogant person have a dream like this. And the “she’s mad” line just makes it better.
Copyright Claim (I said the same thing)
But that's the relatioship she has with this dream.
Arrogant= having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one's own importance or abilities.
So it isn't far fetched and is more reasonable that she sees HER world as one with absolutely no children. Thusly, in that selfish, "arrogant (as you put it)" point of view she finds her happiness and peace. So it's very fitting, especially when realizing that her humanity is just as varied and complex as any other characters in the show, but with an overly saturated opinion of how things should work.

No they really did not choose the best actress for the role but i dont think even a decent trunchable coulda saved this crap show
agreed
Trunchbull is unbelievable but with the way she is singing it is very touchy she should have her own story movie about her
Yeah, she sings about stopping a rebellion. But Matilda is getting the confidence and spirit to strength it more, so basically this was Trunchbull’s downfall.
Nah I’d say it was when she took Bruce to the chokey after he finished the cake that’s when Matilda rebelled against trunchbull
@@Bigman531 What you described was I think the starting point for Matilda to rebel against Miss Trunchball. I think what happened here reinforced that and then when Miss Trunchball was pulling on Eric's ears, Matilda couldn't keep it inside anymore so she called her out. Miss Trunchball then tried to squish Matilda but then it backfired when Matilda used her powers on Miss Trunchball for the first time. I hope what I'm saying makes sense

Whoever played trunchbull Matilda is real good
It's Emma Thompson in this. She's truly amazing in this role, i agree
You can tell that Emma Thompson had so much fun with this role.
How deep is the bridge? I mean Trunchbull is a character that won't make you feel pity about her, but the "Don't let them steal your horses" I totally get, she had a soul once and was taken away by bitterness alright, and through her cottage fantasy she gets a little piece of that soul she lost, and the lost was harsh I mean how fast does she turns into evil trunchbull even though she was just in her happy place
A very broken woman indeed. Perhaps since her childhood was ruined, others can’t have a good one too
I didn't think Emma Thompson would nail the final note in this song but damn that was impressive.
As pure evil she is, I feel like Mrs Trunchbull needs a prequel of her back in her athletic days
It is nice to have a Miss Trunchbull movie about her back story. I believe she was adopted and bullied as a child because of her muscular build; no boys liked or wanted to date her, so she focused on joining the olympics and becoming a champion; then she became heartbroken and a man-hater, and she could never bear a child. That's why she despises kids ahah just my theory.
Sorry, but that definitely doesn't happen in this movie
