Facing Toxic Killers in Dead by Daylight!

  • What do you consider a toxic player? Over the years I've been posting content I've had all sorts of things called out as toxic. I wanted to share two matches of more "typical" toxic gameplay with a Wraith that decided to slug everyone starting at 5 gens and a Bubba that wanted to facecamp! Then I wanted to share two matches that are less commonly considered toxic, but I've been accused of for being toxic for in the past. In the Ghostface match you'll notice he goes back to hook, he focuses on getting Zarina since she's the only one on death hook, and there are instances of body blocking from the survivors. These are all things I've been accused of as toxic. I also wanted to share a 5 gen chase against a Pig I had recently. In the past I've been called toxic simply for staying at a pallet to wait to see what the killer's next move is. Or even just for being chased for that long. I've also had players consider a killer chasing me that long as "tunneling". What are your thoughts on this? Do you consider any of these things toxic? I personally don't see tunneling or camping as toxic, but I do not enjoy when my team gets bled out. That's probably one of the few things I still consider pretty toxic. Slugging in itself is not toxic to me, but slugging with no intent of hooking and that early is unnecessary imo. I love helping you guys learn the game and always take my content straight from my live stream on Twitch! I am live on Twitch Monday-Friday at 11am ET, stop by and say hi! Thank you so much for watching!

The only thing that I think is toxic is not respecting people's time. Like the wraith game, the survivors on the ground had no way to go next quickly and had to wait the full bleedout. And the jake who just needed to stay for the whole endgame collapse for no reason.

    • @ProbablyMish

Yes! I also agree with waiting at the exit gates. It's very unnecessary to continue wasting the killer's time when the match is already over.

I like the idea of Knockout in that it can cause panic and paranoia among less coordinated teams to see your teammate go down and have no idea where, especially when you're playing as a stealth killer, but yeah the reality is that 99% of the time it's used as a tool for perma slugging. I think it needs something like NOED where the aura of the slug gradually gets larger and larger over 20-30 sec

I’ve been playing the new game mode almost nonstop since it released and the killers have been sooooo much more toxic than I’ve ever experienced. Almost every single game has been something awful to go against. Hard and I mean HARD tunneling, slugging for 4K, hook camping, slugging in general. I don’t understand why people are taking the new game mode so seriously. I thought it would be more chill and fun and you get extra bloodpoints but I’m not sure if the extra blood points and the chance to try perks I don’t otherwise have is worth it

In my opinion, it’s mostly situational BUT a couple things that annoy me
As killer: when the survivors wait in end gate until the collapse timer is about to run out and crouch spamming in the gate as well as trying to get repeated blinds with their flashies like JUST LEAVE. Also had a survivor who had boil over and intentionally ran to a corner so that I couldn’t hook them so yes I bled them out
As a survivor: when a killer slugs for no valid reason, when the killer tunnels also for no valid reason, and camping early on. Like in end game I don’t think it’s bad to face camp cuz what else can you do you know? I got tunneled out not even a full 2 minutes into a match before and I was kind of annoyed by it, very unfun match. Also if they h/ump you while they bleed you out… just unnecessary and gross behavior smh
To sum it up, it’s mostly situational, but overall if you’re purposely trying to slow down the match and make it the worst experience for either side, you’re toxic.
Side note: Love you and your videos so much Mish! Glad to be a part of your community ❤

I watch a friend play killer, and I can tell you that survivors waiting at the exit gates instead of just leaving or coming back once the gates are opened to taunt a killer who isn't moving and clearly wants to end the match) will usually cause them to stop caring about being "fair" soon enough. He watches hooks and doesn't tunnel, but after a few matches with teabagging, comments such as "Good job EZ", and "Baby killer", he'll say to hell with it and make play hell for survivors afterward. It's a shame, especially with the new chaos shuffle.

    • @ProbablyMish

Yes! Once the game is over I think we should just have respect for everyone's time and leave so that we can get started in a new match! Also omg I hate the boil over & run to a corner strat... I don't blame anyone for bleeding out in those situations.

I believe the toxicity lies behind the reason of the action, not the action itself. Slugging someone and watching them bleed out is toxic, slugging because there are 3 survivors around you is justifiable. Tunneling someone for a petty reason (playing a specific character, wearing a certain cosmetics, bringing a flashlight) is toxic, tunneling for pressure is not (but I still think it's a skill issue/unlucky. Just take the L and move on). The thing is being toxic as killer is thousands of times more impactful than survivor. Killer mains only will never get this.

    • @tamsuzuki4973
      @tamsuzuki4973 Месяц назад +3

This is actually a hot take imo, I play both survivor and killer and I started off maining survivor. I started off seeing a lot of things as being toxic that killers would do and after months of that I started watching killer videos and started playing the other half of the game. Honestly, it opened my eyes and I can see why killer mains claim toxic survivor behaviour and survivor mains claim toxic killer behaviour. The game is designed to put you against each other, the killer’s job to kill you and the survivors job to try to survive. I think people often forget that as a killer you aren’t entitled to every kill, and as a survivor you aren’t entitled to surviving every time. To put it even deeper into the lore, the entity thrives off of pain and suffering, so if anything survivors causing the killer as much frustration and frenzy in their mind gaming, and the killer being as brutal and torturous in their mind gaming feeds the entity to her fullest. But at the end of the day, say ggs and appreciate your opponent in those tough games. This game actually taught me a lot in gaming and i appreciate those really frustrating trials where I have to push myself to learn a new tactic

  • @kiaraelana

I think that slugging/tunneling/camping is purposely disrupting a normal match so it is toxic in terms of gameplay. There are perks to slow down matches (gen regression, healing slow downs, etc) so that kind of behavior is unnecessary and bad sportsmanship. But I do think that if endgame comes so quick and multiple survivors have extra hook states then camping/tunneling is fair game. Also the BM-ing on both sides (killers h/umping, b/eating survivors on hook) is toxic to me, and even if im playing survivor and see other survivors doing it (t-bagging, emoting during chases) its just corny to me.

    • @ProbablyMish

i think toxicity comes from the reason behind the tactic.
Bleeding everyone out while humping them its toxic, slugging one survivor to catch the last one you just saw running away not so much.
Are you a swf whose whole fun comes from seeing how much you can tilt the killer?, that can be considered toxic, blinding the killer at paletes to gain distance?, that is anoyying but not really toxic.
There are a lot of things in dbd that can make the match unfun for both sides and toxicity comes when they are done with that specific purpose.

Although it is worse for me when they find the fourth survivor near the third down survivor and before hooking and immediately starting the chase with the fourth survivor, they prefer to leave the other one in the floor for 2mins. I suppose the term “toxic”is subjective. Same thing as in the video happened to me but I wouldn’t call it toxic. Some players like to slug because that’s their play-style. It’s definitely not fun for sure from the survivors pov. Toxic gameplay to me is when a player comment on other players ability or start harassing them for no reason. I was told recently to quit playing dbd bc I suck at it, and simply to go sell my account so others can make use of it. I’d want BEHAVIOUR to address this matter of “what’s a toxic gameplay” in near future. It’s a very fascinating topic.

Only thing I think is toxic about playing killer is when they smack on hook, t-bag with certain killers, or do the slug hump. Otherwise, everything else is fair game and merely a strategy within the game to acquire the win. Just like how it's nothing personal when survivors spam flashlights, flashbangs, gen-rush, spam head-on, heal in your face, bodyblock etc. However, t-bagging at the gates, t-bagging at pallets etc, Imo is pretty toxic behavior. Idk, just seems like any behavior that is meant to antagonize the other player with no win condition tied to it is unnecessary. Even the Wraith in the beginning... it's like... if he brought a slug build then why wouldn't he slug? Just like if a survivor team brought 4 brand new parts and gen-rush perks... why wouldn't they gen-rush? There's nothing toxic about wanting to win the game and utilize unique builds and game mechanics to do so. That's part of the fun of the game. However, it is toxic to purposely put your opponent / opponents down with the sole intention of making them feel inadequate.

Like we never see survivors leaving a good loop because it’s too strong? I wouldn’t expect a killer to let the survivor get to a strong area of the map either :/

Toxicity in a game like DBD can be difficult not gonna lie. After that entire slug fiesta he wrote "gg :)" in the postgame chat. For all we know it's a person who's had a rough day, maybe even a rough week and for whatever reason find joy in securing a 4k early on by slugging and so a 3k game with a nea giving them their chase of a lifetime did make their day a lil' brighter. You feel me? I think it's very difficult due to the simple fact that often times, what one side finds enjoyable is NOT enjoyable for the other side and therefor killers and survivors can rarely if ever see eye to eye.
Either way, great video. Love the commentary and skills.

I personally dont think anything regarding actual gameplay is toxic. Granted, there are things I dislike, like being bleed out for 4 minutes, since I feel like my time is being wasted, but I dont see it as inherently toxic, since I could just bring perks to counteract it but I actively choose not to (Unbreakable, Soul Guard, etc, honestly this can be applied with literally anything in the game). Though if a player decides to use said strategies, I dont think they should complain about what other people do in a game since those strategies are often frowned upon by the general community (basically, dont deal it out if you cant handle the same type of stuff being done to you).
THIS BEING SAID... once you take things out of the game and start to harass people in the post-game chat or through other various means, that is when it becomes toxic, since you are taking things that happened in a game and dragging it into the real world which is a massive "no-go" for me.

I agree but also, theres a difference between slugging at 4 genz and playing like you own the place. I was killer once and I downed a survivor at 4 genz. A survivor was nearby for a flashlight save, so I downed them as well. I went to pick up the first survivor and when I hooked them, saw the other two healthy survivors in my vicinity running around to heal the survivor that was downed. Am I just supposed to let that happen? Like huh? I feel like there is too many complaints from both sides. Survivors complain too much and so do killers. The role of a killer is to kill. The role of a survivor is to survive. By any means necessary it is ok. I dont find perks like noed or head on toxic. Its part of the game and as a survivor or killer, you need to learn how to counter it instead of crying that your skill level cant match the opposing perks. This is a general statement to the community, not directed to you Mish, love your content keep going! ❤❤

Specifically for that first game how the wraith was "slugging", knockout was completely counterable if the survivors didnt get downed in the first place. Slugging is a strat you use to generate pressure, especially if you're falling behind or if you know you can snowball because a bunch of people are hovering around. But, to just let people bleed out like that makes me feel like these guys got clapped multiple games in a row and just decided to take it out on the next unfortunate lobby.

I think the only toxic thing is ruining the game for no reason. As a new killer, some people LOVE to t-bag every chance they get, taunt at the exits the entire countdown, it's ridiculous! I understand slugging if there's no close hooks, grouped up survivors, etc. One time these two survivors crawled to a corner with no hooks so I had to let them bleed out. Another time all four were at shack so I slugged them all before hooking them, and had to let Sable bleed out since she went to the basement and was obvious about having Wicked. I think those are acceptable reasons to slug. But letting everyone bleed out just because is toxic. I went against a slugging-only Bubba with No-Mither and I got so much perk value, but I thought it was toxic since he could've ended the game at 5 gens but chose to drag it on forever. Face-camping and tunneling are genuine strategies in the late game and sometimes the only way the killer can make a comeback. I consider it rude, but not toxic, to do in the early game, especially since anti-camp exists. I sometimes like getting tunneled though since I need to practice looping 😂 but I try not to tunnel as killer unless I need to to win

Huntress turned around to face a corner and went afk for like 5 minutes. Then, she kept hitting at a gen. We kept trying to tell her to just kill us please, but she went afk again. So I started working on the gens while Ada also went afk. I did the 5 gens while the Huntress carried Ada after me and just watched me. Then, once I was finally done, she hooked Ada and let me escape. Was the absolute shittiest game I've ever had, I was bored out of my mind and annoyed as hell.

In my eyes, toxic ways of playing the game is performing any kind of behaviour that halts the game not just for you but especially for the other players. Killers seem to do this a lot more than survivors (at least from the games I usually play), and I think it's because of Behaviour. Despite the fact that you get points for doing multiple things, people only feel rewarded if they survive or if they get all four kills (no matter how either of those comes about).
I don't remember which one, but @PirateSoftware talked a little bit about this in one of his videos on a different game.

This game actually taught me a lot in gaming and i appreciate those really frustrating trials where I have to push myself to learn a new tactic)
I really hope the dbd community can see that we all have a shared love for this game in one way or another and it can only get better if we help create that. A killer shaking their head no at you after downing you may feel toxic to you, but to them they were just goofing around with you. A survivor waving their hand at you while in chase feels toxic to you, but they were having fun and chase and just wanted to get your attention. I understand perks and I am okay with knockout I am not okay with how some will use it because it's supposed to be to help against people who are toxic not to be used as toxic. Hopefully the devs implement a basekit Unbreakable that gets unlocked if you are on the ground for more than 2 minutes.

Will likely never happen. Slugging will always be in the game regardless, just like hook camping. It would make it then unfair for killers if everyone just auto unbreakable..

I think going against knockout builds is fun, but i don't play solo so it doesn't really work well for them

first i will define toxic as something that makes the game less enjoyable or ruins the game for other players. i think that it is toxic could also be categorized as being when players aren’t respectful of other people’s time/feelings. my thoughts are always play in the manner you would want to face. to me it is super toxic to slug if there are no other survivors around, there’s no point to bleeding someone out. it’s toxic to tbag and wait at the gate when the killer didn’t get you. same as when the killer humps you on the ground or hits you on hook or zones you. tunnling to me is toxic because it ruins the match for everyone involved, it is so hard to come back from. dcing when you first go down is toxic because you’re hurting the game for other players. i think the bottom line is if you are doing something that actively makes the game unenjoyable for someone else on purpose that is toxic. holding people hostage when you lost is so silly and mean. literally leaving chase when the unhook notification goes off to go tunnel is insane. i think it’s toxic if there is no counter or the counter is very difficult to pull off because that just makes for un-fun gameplay.

Slugging and camping are the only toxic plays killers can do in my humble opinion. Although survivors can be annoying, killer is the only role that can effectively deny a player the opportunity to play the game.
The most toxic things i think survivors can do is 99 a gen with blastmine and finish it in the killers face when the killer is stunned, can also be done by blocking the entrance to the last gen, force the hit, tapp the gen, and disappear with adrenaline.
Other things can be annoying from both sides but not as far as i would call it toxic.

Im like halfway through watching the Ghostface match and so far he wasn't really that toxic. A little weird trying to stalk so much but honestly those are the scare killers

16:30 she is waiting for last gen to pop, to open the gate I guess

I think slugging is the worst strat ever. Like if you are getting tunneled you can still do something and if someone is camping at least the rest of the team can rush gens and hopefully escape, but if someone has a slugging build I feel like theres not a lot you can do. Slugging is toxic in my opinion (and i mean like the wraight game, not slugging when theres another surv nearby and you go for them also)

Brooooo tell me why I went against THE EXACT same wraith and build, they did the same thing slugging at 5 gens and not even bothering to pick up, this should be banned imo and the fact that DS is getting a nerf before anything is insane smh 🤦‍♂️

Toxic to me is something done intentionally against regular or dev-intended gameplay or for no other reason than to ruin the fun and enjoyment for other players. In competitive play, camping to ensure second hook or a kill is expected, so it's not toxic. In regular games where some players did not sign up for that level of play, being face- or proxycamping is toxic. Teabagging after every stun or excessive gesturing is also toxic, since it's just a way for a survivor to say they think they're better than the other player.
