"My name is Maximus Destinous Meridius" Commander of the armies of the north , General of the felix legions and loyal servant to the true Emperor Marcus Aurelius , Father to a murdered son , Husband to a murdered wife and I will have my vengeance in this life or the next - Baronvongames 2021
Favorite movie quote? “The one place in Middle-earth we don't want to see any closer, and the one place we're trying to get to. It's just where we can't get.” -Samwise Gamgee
About the colosseum, there is a fun fact: gladiators are prisoners forced for entertainment or civillians who volunteer hoping to get money, Normally if prisoner gladiators win, they earn the money to gain their freedom (depending on how much would it cost to cover up their crimes) while if civillians win, they earn some 100000 roman currency called sesterces.
One of my favorite movie quotes is in the new Mad Max movie when the one guy is driving through absolute chaos and says "what a day, WHAT A LOVELY DAY!"
not a quote but it’s like a pep talk:”This is where we hold them. This is where we FIGHT. THIS IS WHERE THEY DIE!” “EARN THESE SHIELDS BOYS” “Remember this day men, it will be yours for all time.”
Alexander the Great didn't just capitalise on his father's success. He was a brilliant tactician who destroyed the greatest empire of the time, Persia, and built his own empire stretching from the furthest flung Greek colonies to the Indus flipping River. And he would have gone farther if he'd had the chance. And all of this was done before he was even 30 years old! On top of that, in his entire conquest of what was, at that time, most of the known world, he never lost a single battle. Alexander may have built on the foundation of his father's power, but what he built was much more impressive. So impressive, in fact, that when he died, the Empire was too big to survive the ensuing power struggle - without a superfluous general and tactician to lead it, it fell to infighting because he drank himself to death with no clear heir and no bureaucracy to lead the empire after his death. Why did he drink himself to death? Well, supposedly he mourned that there were an infinity of worlds in the universe, and he hadn't even been able to conquer one. Compare that to other tacticians then: Despite being the best general of his time, Napoleon lost numerous battles and completely failed to destroy his equivalent of Persia (the British Empire) despite controlling most of Europe. Julius Caesar conquered Gaul, but couldn't take Germany, so he gaslit the world so hard that the Germans were somehow scarier than the Gauls, changing the face of European culture, before invading England and deciding it was too wet, so he wanted to leave. Then he beat up his old ally, Pompeii, banged Cleopatra and got stabbed by most of his friends. The British Empire relied on sea power and using their vast resources and FLIPPING GUNS to bully the original inhabitants, then got their faces stood on by the US. George Washington and the American Revolutionaries relied on British arrogance and French help to win the revolution. Peter the Great used his vast resources and huge armies to defeat his enemies. When that didn't work, he just left the Russian winter to do the rest. Saladin was fighting on home turf, against a disunited, outnumbered, confused and poorly organised opponent. And all of these guys did their best work after they were 30 years old! So, to sum up, no general i can think of can best Alexander the Great's victory to loss ratio, defeat the most powerful empire in the world at the time, conquer all the way from the Adriatic Sea to the Indus River and name as many cities after themselves before they are 30.
My favorite movie quote is Sons of Gondor! Of Rohan! My brothers. I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of Men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of wolves and shattered shields when the Age of Men comes crashing down, but it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good earth, I bid you stand, Men of the West!
