Everything the older artists used to talk about has come to pass. Right before he dropped Voodoo, D'Angelo said in an interview that folks was letting them turn Black music in general into some club shit. When David Banner was doing promo for his album 'Death of a Pop Star' almost fifteen years ago I distinctly remember him saying at one point that in the direction we're headed we won't have another Michael Jackson or even another Chris Brown. I’ve been seeing this conversation a lot lately. Music has always been like this though. Especially in hip hop, where the genre literally sets trends. Most artist can only ask for a 3 year peak. In the history of the genre, maybe every 5 years you’ll get an artist that can have a decade long run.
    I’m 30. The amount of rappers that’s came into the game “Hot” and completely fell off 2 summers later is more than I care to remember. It has little to do with streaming. Most musicians have a career lifespan of maybe 4 years (as far as peak popularity).

    All throughout the history of Rap music, rappers only hold the title of the hottest in the game for a very short period of time. Even Somme of the greatest rappers of all time. Big Daddy Kane was only in the top contender discussion in 88-89’, the DOC was only really hot in 89’. Biggie dropped in 94’ and was the man, but he took a back seat to features in 95-96’ and Life After Death literally didn’t drop until after he died. Snoop was at his zenith in 92-94’, by the time 96’ came he definitely wasn’t the hottest in the game anymore and by the time he signed with No Limit he was already a legacy rapper in a game where you old once you hit 30. Snoop never recreated the feeling of the Chronic or Doggystle the way Jay dropped classics well into his career like the Blueprint. Ironically, the rappers who have consistently put out high quality music over the span of decades and never really fell off were underground mainstream dudes never mentioned in GOAT discussions like Ghostface and AZ.

    tired of the durk disrespect, most of his music is not "AHHH HA". It is melodic love/street songs. Over the past 12 years his voice has only gotten better, his ability to string together a melody has gotten better and he hops on different beats. I agree he hasnt made another "AHH HA" but he doesnt drop those songs that often. He normally throws one "AHHH HA" in the mix of his melodic shit, they said the same thing when "No Auto Durk" came out.

    I hate to say it, but Hip Hop is just starting to seem like it’s run its course for the most part on the commercial side of things. Everything has already been done. It might be time to create a new genre, if possible. Who knows what that would look in this age?

    • @saintkevinofficial
      @saintkevinofficial Год назад

      Unfortunately, if people haven't been able to create anything of substance in the past 5 years, especially in terms of the newer artists, what makes you think they'll be intelligent or creative enough to invent a new genre. People are missing the bigger picture. Creativity in general is dying.

    Hip Hop/Rap is getting boring. Its slowly dying and it might be over (within the mainstream) after drake retires. It will be a niche market and the popular genre in the future will be an evolution of what hip hop is/was and will be more or less unrecognizable . At least thats what I think will happen

    1:46 everyone is blaming the artist without realizing the consumer has changed. They always want something new and immediately. How many rappers albums are being played for a full year or 2. You drop and people are over it within 2 months. And if they don’t here from you in 8 months then you fell off… that’s not sustainable.

  • @williamwatsoniii3895

    This is not a new phenomenon. It happened to rock music as well. Look at rock music around the year 2000 and look at it again around 2005. The household name bands started to dwindle and a lot of here today, gone tomorrow acts. Hip hop probably reached its peak in popularity probably in 2018…and has been on the comedown(from a commercial performance/popularity standpoint ) ever sense

    • @saintkevinofficial

      Completely agree. The unfortunate part is, I don't think any of the genres out here are as strong as Hip Hop. Afrobeats and Reggaeton are already in fatigue mode and they're very romantic genres. In this era, hip hop and rock work well because there's less romance and less simps who want to impress. So Afrobeats and Reggaeton won't work well for most audiences.
