    Nothing more sublime than hearing this magnificent music performed on period instruments. The warmth of wood wind instruments is by far superior to using a shrill metal flute.

      Agreed,and the viola da gamba.What an instrument that is!

    Very enjoyable, such a great and well played piece. It's so good that these lovely old instruments can be so well recorded now and hat's off to the engineers and camera people of the this performance also.

    I'm my humble opinion, you will never appreciate baroque music unless played on period instuments. Something that is being done more but still not frequently enough!

      I disagree simply on the basis of Richter's recordings of the WTC. Even though they're completely historically "wrong", they're still some of the most mystifying recordings out there. But I get where you're coming from 100%, it really is so different listening to this music with the intended instruments.

      @@Steinwaytoday I think, yes, probably we should make an exception for Bach and Richter and the development of the Pianoforte since Beethoven. So, I have to agree with you.

    This is utterly delightful - from many standpoints! Everyone plays vey well (of course), and the music is really lovely (again, of course), but additional sparks of enjoyment are afforded by such details as the cutsie-poo facial antics of the violinist (un petit peu enceinte, je crois), and the well-practiced facial poses of the excellent (and yes, beautiful) gambist - but most amusing for me, were the frequent, deft little "switcheroos" of the flautiste.. Bravi!

    Whats the name of the 'Cello' like instrument?

    • @WolfyGreen
      @WolfyGreen 6 лет назад +1

      Emanuel Garcea it's a 'Viola da Gamba.' A Bass Viola da Gamba. It has frets and it's six or seven strings are tuned almost in the same pattern as a guitar. It has a clearer, softer tone than a cello and the bass member of the family became very popular in the late 17 century and for most of the 18th. Lots of Gamba music on RUclips for you to enjoy!

    • @Petroglyph88
      @Petroglyph88 Год назад

      As WolfyGreen says, it is a Viola Da Gamba. One of the best performances I have seen for this instrument is by Luciana Elizondo; she plays Loves Farewell, written by Tobias Hume.

    On peut imaginer Rameau testant les parties instrumentales de son opéra avec un petit ensemble de musiciens. C'est instructif, on suit bien les "parties". Néanmoins je trouve que l'on sent bien qu'il ne s'agit pas de musique de chambre ( moins élaboré que les pièces de clavecin en concert par exemple ), mais d'une partition destinée a être magnifiée par un orchestre.
