The Lunar New Year is not until June which mainly celebrated in Islamic countries. It’s the Chinese New Year aka Spring Festival which is based on the lunar-solar calendar invented by the Chinese. In ancient times, Japan, Korea and Vietnam used the Chinese calendar. Now, lots of Asian countries celebrate the New Year due to ethnic Chinese in those countries. So, don’t call it the lunar new year because it is incorrect

Chinese New Year is UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Erasing Chinese from the holiday originated from China is cultural appropriation. It’s the same day because it’s based on Chinese Agriculture Calendar. Koreans and Vietnamese don’t have their own calendar, they’re celebrating CNY. Different regions in China celebrate differently, still CNY.

Historical Fact: Not every Asian countries celebrate the same New Year. In ancient times, Japan, Korea and Vietnam used the Chinese calendar which is based on the lunar-solar calendar. Nowadays, more countries celebrate the Chinese New Year due to ethnic Chinese in those countries. Islamic countries (in Asia) celebrate the Lunar New Year which is in June. Thailand, Laos and Cambodia celebrate their New Year in April based on their own calendar. Japan currently follows the Western calendar, they no longer use the Chinese calendar 🧧
