Mindful eating has actually helped me a lot in overcoming my binge eating disorder. Without any distractions you’re better able to listen your hunger cues!

Eating mindfully also helps increase your enjoyment of the food as you focus on what your eating. It increases the feeling of be satiated after a meal and prevents over eating (as many of us tend to do when snacking while distracted.

Yes, you release digestive enzymes (amylase) in your saliva that start to break down carbohydrate chains so that by the time they get to your stomach they use secondary enzymes (protease and maltase) to break them down further that allows the sugars to be appropriately used by the body. Not chewing properly means that the primary enzyme isn't able to be effective, so then the secondary enzymes doen't work, leading to large sugar molecules in the intestines which are stored as fats instead of being used properly. The body doesn't convert carbohydrates to sucrose. Sucrose is glucose and fructose together, so that assertion makes no sense. They can only break down ingested sugar into glucose and fructose.

This was awesome! A note for anyone starting something like this. If it is a big change for you, you might experience a couple weeks of feeling crappy as your body processes out all the crap in your body and starts to operate more optimally. I did something similar to this. No processed sugar, no grains, no dairy. The first 2-3weeks were awful. My sleep sucked, my muscles were cramping and I was getting headaches. Straight up sugar withdrawal. Having fruits in the mornings helped though. But after that I had more energy and focus than I had in my whole life. I was sleeping wonderfully and waking up feeling rested. My digeston system issues were basically non existent especially around the 2 month mark. It was amazing. I am starting to eat that way again just hard to be strict about it atm. This was awesome to watch. I am going to apply the no distractions while eating! And that saled looks delicious af!! Definitely gonna make it!
Yeah, eating without distractions helps you stay satisfied because distraction can cause you to feel as if you never ate in the first place. This just helps with people have trouble being in tune with their body. I also like it bc it gives you a break from electronics for the day.
I’m a substitute teacher; eating in silence is my favorite! I’m not alone in this; we don’t have much time for lunch, and most people just want to eat in peace.
I love that you said her weight loss journey and her journey to health as 2 different things because most people assume those things are the same. They are not. 👏👏👏
Risotto can contain gluten and so can regular oats, they need to be certified, Celiac here, so that is something that needs careful ingredient check or avoid all together

Really good review!! Thank you!!! I know it is not for me, I like my healthy life style but it was nice to see another option. I liked the idea of eating without distractions and properly chewing the meals
I’d love to see more videos of like how to make the stuff that you made in this video and more ideas. I am not interested in becoming a chef but the stuff you made looked simple and delicious
All those types of foods being eliminated is a no go for me :/ this would just trigger disordered eating for me personally. Love Rebel though and glad it works for her! ❤
It depends on who you ask. It is fact that once we started genetically modifying wheat obesity rates and rates of celiac disease and gluten intolerance shot up. This is why there’s a school of thought that wheat is indeed a problem. Doesn’t sound all that far-fetched to me, but I’m not a doctor.
@@Hannah-zw9ow Kinda a confounding variable here. Once we had the technology to modify wheat, we also had the technology to diagnose people and more people started having access to healthcare. Also, GMOs make food more widely available so people who previously may have not had access to bread on a regular basis got access and then showed symptoms. Just because two things happen around the same time doesn't mean there's a causal relationship.
I've cut it out because I have PCOS and I wanted to see if cutting it helped my digestion. It has been a huge help which means that it must irritate my gut causing my cortosil/insulin to fluctuate. Sometimes trialling these things can be helpful to see what your body needs!
Umm.. a 3lb LOSS in only a WEEK is pretty dang awesome! Definitely be careful not to set unrealistic expectations when it comes to weight loss. You rocked it!
I live in NYC and it's been mostly outdoor weather for us here, too. The parks have been a mob scene most of the time. I was going to the park when it was cold and I miss being able to get at the basketball hoop or whatever so easily. Soon, I won't be able to get at anything. Now, I'm just getting the last hoop and getting bumped by the other court. Your cat is so adorable.
As someone who doesn’t drink a lot of caffeine this is fine. In fact I’m allergic to coffee so it seems like pretty normal to me aside from the quiet eating but sometimes that’s nice.
The process may seem weird, but see it from the perspective of someone who does not have a good/healthy relationship with food, and it seems like a process to reset that relationship. So it those terms it makes sense. I don't think it's meant to be so strict forever, more just at the beginning where you have to relearn how to approach food "time".
This looked like one of the easier ones you’ve done. I like how it’s all about mindfulness and really being in the moment. It’s so hard to eat in silence and not drink when you eat!

My doctor says that its better to do part of the diet than not doing nothing at all. Like she said being happy is also part of the plan. There is no point of doing something for your physical health if your mental/emotional health is suffering. You got to balance all out.
As long as a diet's ONLY rule is "no caffeine!!" then you can alter a diet to work for you. It's not "rebel Wilson's diet" it's just "rebel Wilson's diet with caffeine". It's still got good habit to practice, and if you want to have caffeine, it's not going to be completely ineffective. It might take slightly longer to see results, but you wlcan diet and keep caffeine fine.
My daughter has PCOS and has benefited from seeing a naturalpath. Because symptoms vary for each PCOS female. Daughter had blood tests done, a full history of foods examined. She does drink coffee, in moderation. Eliminated a lot of wheat from her diet. Daughter and naturalpath developed a good food strategy that worked. Plus added in some much needed supplements. This sounds a lot like what I started doing to improve my heart health which has gotten really bad since meeting my husband. I'm not as restrictive but I don't drink alcohol, soda or coffee/tea. I do have to take migraine medicine containing caffeine but other than that, I avoid it like the plague. I make green smoothies with whole ingredients nearly every day for breakfast and shy away from gluten and sugar. On days that I don't drink my breakfast I eat an apple, an orange and a banana over the course of an hour or so to stretch out breakfast (luckily I can eat at my desk). I don't really feel like I have to snack anymore but I don't restrict myself from being able to. I have completely replaced dairy milk with almond milk and take supplements so I'm getting the needed D and calcium. I do enjoy a charcuterie board now and then so I get processed meat a few times a month, but only a few pieces. I prefer goat, brie and Dubliner cheeses on my boards. I also drink 4 and a half liters of water a day and that keeps me super full. I have noticed a marked improvement in my gut health. Everyone's body is different but this really makes me feel good. I haven't bothered looking at my weight but it'll be an added bonus if I lose the quarantine pounds. Thanks for sharing this experience!
Really? They would remove excess skin for just an 80lb loss? What is the weight loss limit before they'll give you that surgery? I've heard it is very delicate, it can have complications. Up to what weight lss woul the skin be reabsorbed?
I just watched an interview with Ms. Wilson the other day, she said it was 80 pounds which she lost. Judging by before and after thumbnail, I'd agree on the 80 pound loss. Give the lady proper respect by number, 80 pounds is no easy feat to lose and I commend her perseverance and determination to become healthier. As she said, her diet was not about weight loss but becoming healthier in her year of quarantine and such. She's also had excess skin removed by now, I am sure.
Getting rid of snacking works every time for me as well. But the thing is that after being deprived of snacks and sugar for long periods of time, I always end up snacking a lot after losing weight. Because it's so damn hard to give up on them for good, especially when you're the only one on a diet. My family is always snacking around me.
@@Kristynne. i totally agree. I would keep pickles and sugar free jello around for just in case. Last year I lost nearly 140 pounds/over 60kgs and although I eat this by necessity, I am glad people are finding this diet that’d be easy to sustain, as this makes food for people like me to have access to alternative foods. thanks for sharing and showing the process. this was super helpful especially the food prep component. question : when did you drink your water and/or decaf coffee or ? before > after>? thanks!!
Drinking water can actually impede your digestive enzymes from chewing thus making digestion less then optimal. Literally so hard for me since I have a hard time swallowing. 😂

This is all absolutely normal for someone after Bariatric Surgery (speaking as someone who had Weight Loss Surgery in 2020). The water thing pushes food through your stomach faster. Really you can't drink within 30 mins before or after your eat as well. The chewing is also to mindfully eat and be able to tell if you're full before you're "over full". Really only a few bites of each meal would be all that could be handled by someone after RNY or Sleeve surgery.

Here I am...
On my phone
Drinking coffee
With sugar
And milk
And snacking on a fruit tingle lolly
Ooops
Love that!

Losing 3 pounds in a week is exceptional. Multiply that by ten weeks and account for a little plateau and you’ll be looking at a cool 20-25 pounds .
Right! Ill take 12lbs a month! Lol
Yeah, eating without distractions helps you stay satisfied because distraction can cause you to feel as if you never ate in the first place. This just helps with people have trouble being in tune with their body. I also like it bc it gives you a break from electronics for the day.
You’ve actually convinced me to try this unlike other food/exercise videos.
I’m a substitute teacher; eating in silence is my favorite! I’m not alone in this; we don’t have much time for lunch, and most people just want to eat in peace.
I love that you said her weight loss journey and her journey to health as 2 different things because most people assume those things are the same. They are not. 👏👏👏
I could NOT. But I absolutely loved watching you do this. Fun video as always.
Risotto can contain gluten and so can regular oats, they need to be certified, Celiac here, so that is something that needs careful ingredient check or avoid all together
I was like heyyy looks easy then you said no caffeine... had a heartattack!!
Probably all that caffine lmfao
offtop but when I saw the miniature of the video i didn't thought so but you have such a nice and calm voice!! hearing it was like woah how beautiful~~
Oh my goodness thank you so much!
I live in Italy. No talking whilst eating 😂😂😂🤐
Real quick, youre amazing at keeping form when you workout like 🤯 your form is better than most fitness gurus
Actually pretty close to what ive bn doing n ive lost 82lbs already 😉
Awesome!
That’s awesome! Is there a specific method that you use?
Wow congrats
Amazing achievement
Same here, except I can’t live with out caffeine
Really good review!! Thank you!!! I know it is not for me, I like my healthy life style but it was nice to see another option. I liked the idea of eating without distractions and properly chewing the meals
I’d love to see more videos of like how to make the stuff that you made in this video and more ideas. I am not interested in becoming a chef but the stuff you made looked simple and delicious
Agree! It looked delicious and not too hard but would love the recipes
All those types of foods being eliminated is a no go for me :/ this would just trigger disordered eating for me personally. Love Rebel though and glad it works for her! ❤
Same girl. I actually got anxious just watching this 😬
Me too
I agree. I think I’ll integrate more water, less sugar, and that’s the most I can do.
The food you meal prepped looked so good. Do you have recipes for them?
I noticed a difference in your skin and in your eyes. Because of that, I'm going to try the diet. Thank you for sharing.
How is the diet working for you thus far?
3lbs is actually really good considering it is recommended to lose .5 to 2.0 lbs a week
Between the chewing and no socializing this works for no one who has children 😂😂😂
I can’t imagine!! You’d have to go hide in your car while they were asleep 🤣
It would work because we won’t be able to eat. Well for a while and then before we starve to death😂
And no caffeine? I need life in the morning
Lol true
I was thinking the same now way can o chew that many times it's might work cos I'd probably get one mouthful per meal😅
As a diagnosed coeliac, it really annoys me when people cut out gluten because “it’s bad for you” NO IT BLOODY ISNT! If you have a functioning gut.
Facts
I've cut it out because I have PCOS and I wanted to see if cutting it helped my digestion. It has been a huge help which means that it must irritate my gut causing my cortosil/insulin to fluctuate. Sometimes trialling these things can be helpful to see what your body needs!
GMO and the chemicals used stuff food up. That is why most gluten foods are not good.
Thanks for sharing this video, Kayla. What an approachable way to get healthy for this New Year!
My TMJ could never 😫
Very underrated comment lmao
My exact thoughts, I would be in tears after the first meal, and add to that a caffeine withdrawal headache....it’s a no from me 😂
Umm.. a 3lb LOSS in only a WEEK is pretty dang awesome! Definitely be careful not to set unrealistic expectations when it comes to weight loss. You rocked it!
I love this video. So inspiring. And I've been doing this and walking an hr a day like rebel Wilson dose and have lost 9 lbs in two weeks 👍🏼💯💙
some ppl are just SO good at yt (ur one of them!!)
Aww thank you so much!
Love this video Kayla! And your cat is soooo cute 🥰. Thanks for sharing such cool and motivating videos!
What an awesome video. First ‘diet’ video that is unbiased and not trying to promote a product. Well done and you have a new subscriber
I am really happy for rebel. She always looked beautiful but she is healthy now too and a real inspiration.
As someone who doesn’t drink a lot of caffeine this is fine. In fact I’m allergic to coffee so it seems like pretty normal to me aside from the quiet eating but sometimes that’s nice.
No recipes? Those meals looked bomb tbh!
Not me watching this video on my laptop while eating dairy, gluten, sugar and caffeine
Honestly same
Ok, ok... wait NO COFFEE noooop. How else would I survive 12h night shift?!
Agreed! No way I give up my coffee ... an absolute non negotiable.
Preach
Saw this and almost clicked off immediately 😂😂
Fact !! I work overnights 5 times a week no way!
My life too! I need it to work my graveyard shift
You could always just start implementing one mayr-thing at a time, right? I‘m gonna try replace the phone with counting chews 😬 wish me luck... (btw I watched this video during breakfast lol)
Yes! I definitely think there are components of this diet that could be helpful
How did it go?
Luck
You should try Caroline Girvan’s EPIC workout for a week or the full 10 weeks
Caroline Girvan’s a beast!! living superwoman!💯🙌🏼💪🏼
Yes!!!! This helped build strength for me. She's awesome!
Ok that chicken salad looked amazing as did the risotto. Recipe please? Or at least an ingredient list? I need that in my belly!
She just bought premade risotto and cubed those chicken breasts she roasted or baked or watever. Then she dumped watever seasonings she liked on top. Super simple. May I reccomend Adobo all purpose. Its the go to of myself & lots of people I know. They also have good gourmet seasonings at marshals and tjmax lol I'm serious I got this amazing Tuscan seasoning there once.
Juicing is a great alt for caffeine. My mom adds ginger and whooo it’s a kick in the morning
3 pounds a week is very good especially for someone who already is thin . Good job!
Rebel looks fantastic!! Incredible!!
Anything that tells me I can't have caffeine is a no from me 😂 love the paying attention to your food aspect and of course less processing and less refined sugar 🙌
One size does not fit all.
The sign of a true cat owner is the scars (I say right after Luna gave me a big old love bite)
Also that risotto looks so good! I’ve gotta try making that now that I have some risotto rice in my pantry
Right?! I have a permanent scar under my right eye from my Emma who sadly, for me, passed away at 16. Oddly I don’t mind the scar because it’s a reminder of the love we had for each other.
Excellent video. Getting rid of snacking, caffeine and alcohol last year really worked for me. I lost a lot of weight and kept it off.
Now I'm at the point where i can eat like crazy all day and put on 6lbs and wake up the next morning weighing way less. Worth it. Oh another trick is having diet soda around. It keeps you full and satiated.
Kayla: It's also highly encouraged that you don't even talk or socialise while you're eating
Me, an Italian: *angry noises* :c
Side note, your skin looks clearer and brighter. Kudos to you!
Thank you!! My trip to the dermatologist helped a lot
I love this! I never thought to eat and not be on my phone😂
Same here.... lmao
I’m gluten and dairy (all dairy products from animals +dairy protein) intolerant/very sensitive. I’m also not a caffeine drinker, isn’t a fan of the taste of seafood or meat; but like chicken. I’m also allergic (to the point of an epipen) to a few common preservatives so I eat similar to this diet (minus the cheese aspect).
Last year I lost nearly 140 pounds/over 60kgs and although I eat this by necessity, I am glad people are finding this diet that’d be easy to sustain, as this makes food for people like me to have access to alternative foods. Thanks for taking on her diet! It was great to see! X
"Doesn't sound too bad"
Literally me who eats only diary and bad carbs and caffeine 🤣
Cries in $50 food budget - uni student🤣😭
Healthy eating is not that expensive
@@reesepieces92 yea it is. In my country anyway
@@Yolo781 oh sorry to hear that. What country are you from?
@@reesepieces92 New Zealand. Since everything’s being imported atm prices are so high. Avocados are like $6 each atm🤣 same with tomato punnets, mushrooms etc. 6 chicken breasts are $20 which isn’t that bad but it’s hard to stick to the $50 budget when prices are rising a lot
Millennial without a 4 yr degree *is poor at 37 & will be 4ever*
The chewing thing is based on a Victorian diet Banting I think and was very popular at the time
Amazing video!! Can you do one of Keto (and also bring us the gossip of which celebritis are making it?) Thanks!!
I felt inspired after watching your video. Did a little research myself. Other important things to note about this diet: largest meal should be breakfast, followed by a smaller lunch and even smaller supper. No raw foods after 3
PM.
Yes, I like the thought process here. No eating 3 hours before bed as well.
Eating in silence actually makes a lot of sense. Im overweight and I have found that I eat mindlessly when I'm watching something. This is one of the things I've changed.
Honestly this sounds a lot like how you're supposed to eat after a wls without the actual surgery
That is what I thought as well
It all looks so,good. You should put your recipes out. I could eat what you fixed easy. You go girl. I’m proud
I don't think you need to cut out gluten when you're not a celiac or have any other issues with it.. I feel like it's such a trend to cut it out 😬🤦♀️
I'm amazed how If you went back maybe just 15 years or so, eating without your phone was literally normal to everyone. Fast forward to now and that very concept is nearly unimaginable. (We were allowed to read the newspaper as we ate back in the day!)
thanks for sharing and showing the process. this was super helpful especially the food prep component. question : when did you drink your water and/or decaf coffee or ? before > after>? thanks!!
I would drink after my meals!
Rebel Wilson is an inspiration...and her netflix movie senior year is awesome
Drinking water can actually impede your digestive enzymes from chewing thus making digestion less then optimal. Literally so hard for me since I have a hard time swallowing. 😂
That's what she said.
Sorry I'm too childish lmao
@@maja__5047 i see watchu did there lol
Woah! I’ve been MIA on social media for the past year or so, I had no idea she lost weight! I hope she’s happy & not constantly harassed about her weight change.
I remembered she losing weight because she wanted to freeze her egg but the doc said she needs to loss weight first and have a balance weight in order to freeze her egg or else it's gonna be difficult.
Great video 🥰 3 pounds ina week is a good pace !! Losing too fast it can come back so fast!
Your skin looks amazing!
Hello, can you please list the recipes for your lunch? They look so good 😊. Are they easy to make? I’m not the best cook in the kitchen. lol
You: rule # 1-4
Me: oh ok that seems easy
You: rule # 4-6
Me: 😱WHAT THE F**K!
A lot of these rules are also bariatric surgery rules.. ie chewing like crazy, not eating/drinking at same time/limiting sugar/caffeine etc.
