That's a good question 😉 I most situations, "I asked to go home." is enough. But if you really want to include 上司に, you should say "I asked my boss if I could go home." Does that make sense?

と言いたい時は、I asked my boss if I could go home.で良いんですかね？I asked to go home.だけでは「上司に」の部分が抜けてしまいますよね？

大体は、「上司に」と言う必要なくて、文脈などで分かる場合が多かったり、誰に聞いたかという情報がそこまで大事じゃなかったりもしますけど、
「上司に」を入れたければ、仰る通り、I asked my boss if I could go home.ですね👍
