    Lol great job. One year I did a headless horseman costume.
    I was actually on my horse trying it out when an electric company guy drove by. He kept looking and almost stopped... Love making my own costume...

    Michael...that was great. I've watch dozens of videos on these special costumes and the really unique thing about them all is that they are all different. Yours was no exception. Really nice job on the build and I thought your presence and appearance was spot on with the character. You were steady and smooth and slow. That really makes these Walkers do majestic and amazing. I'll definitely be making this costume for me for 2017. Take care and thanks for sharing your video!!!

    where did you get the materials, I've been planning to make one of these for my senior prank next year and wanna make it look as badass as possible and yours is the best I've seen so far

    • @ml5209
      @ml5209  7 лет назад +2

      thanks that means alot. most of my materials unfortunately i found like the base layers and shredded layers, but there are a few things that i bought like the camo netting ( a.co/jjbJJ1F ) and the foam and mask which i bought at a michaels craft store. the balaclava ( a.co/cp2eEBy ) which i like because its very light and easy to wear especially in the summer months though you are still going to sweat your butt off which is why a camelbak is nice to have and also gives you a good hump on your back. i never wrote down any building specs mostly because i did it by feel. if there is any other questions i can help with let me know.

    • @ml5209

      one really important point to make is to make sure you put padding between you and your stilts i have scvars from the one time i thought i could do without it and it rubbed my skin raw. on another note going to a salvation store can help with buying the base clothing you will be attatching the outfit to

    • @ml5209
      @ml5209  7 лет назад +1

      Yes it takes practice but learning to walk properly is key, not slouching and having all the weight on your wrists. My record was about 6 hours I believe. The heat is something you can't avoid unfortunately taking breaks and having a camelbak really do help a lot not to mention it helps give you a good hump on your back. Let me know if you have any other questions, you can email me or find my Facebook page where there is a lot more up to date stuff.

      Don Juan de Los Sanchoz cant wait to see your costume! I do have to say please do be very careful when walking in the stilts, I have already has one person try and have to give up the costume because he fell. So take your time and start low and once your stilts are made make them only an inch high of the ground just to give yourself practice in walking with them on.

    Hey Michael, me and a friend are working on trying to make a stilt spirit with a flower theme, where the hump is similar to a rock and the flowers grow from under the rock and drape down, with a shiny silver mask, we wanted to know what people thought of it before we went through with it. (it would still be mysterious but regal at the same time)

    • @ml5209
      @ml5209  7 лет назад +1

      Charlotte Ritter sounds like a great idea! I have been wanting to reimage my whole costume to actually be more tree like with fake tree Bark and be more of an actual tree spirit instead of a kinda pile of fabrics lol. my biggest suggestion would be hang the vines off your chest mostly as this covers up the buttons and keeps the vines out of the way while your walking. please keep me updated as I would really like to see the finished result and please do be careful on the stilts they can be a bit challenging to use if you have an email I'd like to send you what I did for the feet that haven't failed me yet and are safe on all surfaces even tile.

      Michael Lynch Can you tell me how tall you are and what the lengths of both feet stilts and hand stilts were? You seem to have them both in great proportion to each other, doesn't look _or appear at least) to cause you to hunch your back over much, and stand more as in weight-balanced as a giraffe oddly enough.

    • @michaellynch5428
      @michaellynch5428 9 лет назад

      +XxTheReptileGirlxX i apologize for such delayed response but yes the only thing that bothers me after a while are my wrists but after doing it a couple times it gets easier i am 6' 1'' the arms are about as tall as i am but to the handhold is about 4'8'' and the feet are 3'6'' and to the foothold is 2'
      if you would like a faster response i would suggest emailing my cosplay email @ treespiritp@gmail.com
      im going to try and make a diagram of the components and hopefully send it to you

      alot of the materials that i had were found or scavenged but if i had to estimate the total cost maybe like 150 because you dont have to use top quality items or fabric but there my suggestion is look up different stilt building videos look for what you think would work best

    Hello, I am making one of these costumes and I was wondering if I could get some tips on how to get out of the costume (fabric and all) and be able to get out and back into it? Is it attached to a shirt? My dad and I are confused on how to do it. Thank you!

      @ml5209  7 лет назад

      Seadog 13 hello
      I'm currently trying to make some videos of how I made my costume but. I can tell you the back piece is an over sized button up shirt I bought at a goodwill store along with the pants. and superglued to the shirt is the foam I used to create a hump and then various layers of fabric to give texture. the arms are cut off to make a vest but honestly you could cut them at the elbow to cover your arm better.
      facebook.com/TreeSpiritCP/
      Here is where I'm uploading the videos and there are some videos of the costume that you can use for reference.

    Love the build - and seeing the learning process for the stilt walking. What was your endurance while in costume? Planning something built along these lines, and my daughter who's 10 is wholly committed to also doing a stilt costume with me - but I worry it'll be exhausting for her for more than a little bit.

    • @ml5209
      @ml5209  8 лет назад

      Thank you I always appreciate feed back. the main thing you need to know is the posture you mainly want to keep your back at or above 45 degrees. I found this to be the most comfortable position. for your daughter I would suggest more of an upright position as it will help with stability but in my current form I have done 6 hours with a few 5 min breaks just sitting down on a ledge or on a ladder that I bring. if you would like more info I'd be more than happy to send you pictures and talk more so just let me know

    • @BenjaminBaugh
      @BenjaminBaugh 8 лет назад

      More info would be fantastic - particularly the practical side of a costume like this, and any difficulties that are not obvious from the video. How did you decide on your stilt height, for example?

    • @ml5209
      @ml5209  8 лет назад

      +Benjamin Baugh I realized very fast there was no point making the costume very tall as getting through doorways and elevators would not be fesible. so I decided on around 7 ft tall(I am 6ft) so I duck a tiny bit on doorways. but you never know your wrists will hurt mostly if you choose a lower posture but it will hurt less the more you do it but this is why I suggest a more upright position for your daughter. feel free to email me lynch_michael14@gmail.com
