If the plane hadn't been going 150 mph on the ground 800 feet after the end of the runway all those people could have walked away from that plane.
At that speed it would go another 800+ feet and almost certainly crash into something else along the way.
Building, wall, storage tanks, embankment, ditch, waterway, highway, tractor-trailer, train, retaining wall, are some of the possibilities at airports.
Nearly all of them would buy the farm.

the concrete wall 5 feet at end of runway is to kill people and blow up a plane, cause over extending the landing is common for plane accidents, and this is the 1st time a plane over extended the landing, therefore there won't be a second time.

There's a phrase "attractive nuisance" to describe things that might attract children and possibly injure them. There can be liability for a property owner even if it involves children trespassing on private property. But my point is yeah - you can argue all you want about "it shouldn't get to the point" where the antenna encased in reinforced concrete is an issue. However, there was no compelling reason to use that design, especially when best practices around the world are to just build it a taller antenna if it needs to be higher.

I've seen a variety of things. Mostly chain-link fences topped with barbed or razor wire. But also fairly thin blast shields to shield whatever is on the other side from jet blast.
There used to be an issue at Princess Juliana Airport in Sint Maarten where people on the beach near the airport would grab onto the chain link fence and see what happened when the planes taking off would send a big blast of jet exhaust. I don't think they had a blast shield for many years. It wasn't terribly hot, but the airflow was just crazy. One woman died after being blasted off the fence.

Had the pilot even call out the"crash landing" warning to the traffic controller. If not, what actually happened inside the plane? • @matthewjones255
      @matthewjones255 3 дня назад +4

Like most runways, it is operated in both directions depending on operational factors (primarily wind direction).
Each concrete berm is therefore at either the start and the end of the runway, depending on takeoff/landing direction.
There is a nearly identical structure at both ends of that runway. The one at the south end destroyed the aircraft, and was damaged. The one at the north end remains - for the time being.

@ The solid compacted soil and concrete reinforced berm - over 3 metres high and 10 metres deep - pulverised and obliterated the entire aircraft in a split second (except for the tail section). It would have a linear mass of dozens of tonnes per metre - each lateral metre section would likely exceed the mass of the entire aircraft.
Impact with the lightweight concrete brick perimeter wall - and other objects would dissipate kinetic energy in a far more survivable manner, at least for the rear half of the aircraft.

At that speed, you'd rather have flat ground or a super long runway so the aircraft can slowly ground its way to a halt. Having been to sandy areas, no. The wind blows sand around and it gets everywhere. You really want aircraft constantly sucking in sand? It is near a beach, but I don't think it would be great having that much sand that close to the runway on purpose.
A reasonable alternative is what's called an "engineered materials arrestor system". Sort of crushable concrete-like materials that absorb energy. They work best when landing gear digs into the material, but I would think the engine nacelles and the weight of the plane would have worked too.

WE'RE FOCUSING ON THE WRONG ISSUE HERE. Yes, the concrete wall exists, but it’s at a safe distance and within the recommended overshooting zone. The real question is: why did the pilots make such contradictory decisions?
    1. The flaps were retracted, which suggests they were considering a go-around.
    2. Yet, the plane was already in a landing position-proper angle of attack-and reverse thrust was engaged, showing intent to land.
    3. Most importantly, why was the landing gear not deployed? The landing gear system on the Boeing 737 is foolproof, can be deployed manually in seconds, and doesn’t rely on hydraulics or electricity.
Here’s the critical part: the pilot landed with 1,600 meters of runway plus 250 meters of safety zone (recommended by RESA) available. Had the landing gear been deployed, the plane could have stopped safely, avoiding this tragedy altogether.
The focus should be on these actions and decisions, not just the existence of the concrete wall. This incident feels avoidable with proper execution of basic procedures.

So why is the wall there and how many other airports have deadly surprises for compromised aircraft. Damn! We have gravel, arrester-beds on national roads, to safely bring heavy & extra heavy trucks to a safe standstill after brake-failures on long, steep down-hill stretches. Similar life-saving, safety features at airports are both low-cost and effective. If the excuse is 'no space', make the space!

He is looking at the point of exact reasons of the crash. There are other factors. If the airplanes crash easily when hit the birds, should it be taken as the airplane?
Even little knife can easily cut the birds without being broken. What was the factor of high speed?
The airplane was flying unusual speed. It was definite the preparation of landing process was not done yet. Looking at the video, the plane was running through its abdominal area with further enough distance to stop it without burning. But the plane was not stopped for that much further distance because of high speed without control. If it was already prepared to landing and decreased the speed. This terrible crash wouldnt have happened. Death rate would have been less than expected with little burn without hitting the wall. I guess the crash factor was different. Did you check if the plane was broken in the air?
What are the factors of increasing the gear speed without pilot control?
Did they give direction to the pilots with broken plane or without checking the plane safety to control?
What was the blowing gas from the plane?
Which factors could bring the plane blow the gas of its own?

Birds are more dangerous than you give them credit for. At high speeds a collision can go through a window. And the likely scenario here was that many birds were ingested into an engine, and possibly both. Engines might actually be able to handle a few birds, but if it's too many they can't. And no they can't use anything to protect the intakes as that would really mess up the aerodynamics.

Yes. Focus on everything except the faulty hydraulic system and the landing gear. With paid media talking for it, there is no need for Boeing to show its face.

Sure. So far I've found from this incident that (for reasons) runways only operate in one direction, the proper way to raise an antenna array is to place it on top of concrete and a dirt mound, and that they have to put something in the way of a plane to protect buildings and roads, even at the cost of the lives of people on the planes.
