You did far much work than necessary there. Leave the inner door panel and handles on - don't undo the screw inside the door on the lock and lose it 3 times. Just take the hex bolt out from inside the door jam - nudge the entire door handle towards the middle of the door and the whole handle pops out. Takes less than a minute. Sorry for the bad news.
here's the trick to getting the handle to go in: Use a screwdriver, come in low and lightly pry the metal parts towards the outside of the door. Once they are out of the way the handle will gently pop right into the door.
@@irenedunne352 no cables. the handle fits hooked into the door at the first end and hooked behind two small spring-loaded catches at the other end - the end you pull to open the door.
@@irenedunne352 I don't know what the problem is but you will likely have to take the handle out or the inside panel off just to see. As it shows in the video, be careful not to drop that little bolt.
Use a small piece of hosepipe or similar piece of tubing to prevent dropping the screw into the door panel.
Thank you very much, I have rust issues too, how can I treat the inside of the panel best? Any tips on that? Grtz from Belgium!

Mega thanks. I was trying to remove it for like ... 5h ?
Why didn’t you take the lock cylinder off that’s what I need to see right now
How can I open it to change it because the handle has broken and has no resistance left?
Go through the other door.
