People blame the council ….but they are only partly to blame…..over the last 40 years we’ve been let down by various governments ….Stoke on Trent in that time lost 4 major industries, pottery,steel,coal and the Michelin…..thousands of jobs lost and never replaced….and that has played a huge part in the downfall of Stoke on Trent ….very little to no investment…..add to this any investment seemingly misspent on various white elephant projects
The shop at 5mins 20 sec was mine for 6 months 12 yrs ago . I also lived above it in the flat . The local alcoholics used to buy their cheap booze froom the newsagents next door and spend all day drunk and shouting abuse . When i complained to the police .They just said " it wouldnt be right to move them on to somewhere else " .... I didnt stay too long .
Such a pitiful state our city is descending into ,Burslem used to be thriving and alive i went to college in Burslem nearly 60 years ago ,what a fantastic place to be

theres some gorgeous buildings in burslem / stoke on trent in general . Its a shame so many have gone to rack and ruin

I always tell people I'm from New castle under Lyme although now live in Tunstall the city is an embarrassment.

Poverty is not good for business. I can’t understand the Party of Business,the Tory’s,letting it happen.
The Tories used to look after small businesses but they have been firmly in the pockets of a corporate kleptocracy for the last 40 years.

There is no vitality in this city, there are no commercial activities, and many shops in the city have closed down, making it look like a dead city.
It was bound to happen when all those HUGE shopping centers opened everywhere.

So sad, once upon a time some fine looking buildings, now ready for the wrecking ball.
