- Same as Me -- Steven's Story is a short film which aims to breakdown the stigma that still exists about children who are in care by showing that looked after children are just like everyone else.
It tells the story of Steven, an ordinary boy who loves football, gets good marks at school, lives on a regular street, has great friends and whose life is pretty much the same as any other child's -- the only difference is that he is in care. Through a combination of live action and animation, the light-hearted and fun film has a serious message about how children in care are no different to others as it shows Steven putting the bullies in their place.
It was created by Wolverhampton City Council's Looked After Children and Culture, Arts and Heritage services and Red Door Studios, a production company of young people who have had experience of the care system, and starred children from Stow Heath Junior School.
The video will be provided to schools across Wolverhampton as a resource for Key Stage 2 classes to help pupils better understand what it means to be a looked after child.
