  • Would you like your best years filled with the freedom of affordable travel and adventure? I do. Watch this! How did Bruce Bingham design this salty dog of a little 20 foot sailboat in a way that makes me want to buy one and move aboard? Did he just get lucky? Voodoo? Not bloody likely! Skills son. Check out this little video I threw together and learn a little naval architecture design. Because, I guess they don't teach that in the schools anymore. I really think this is my best video yet. Please tap that LIKE and SUBSCRIBE buttons and SHARE. Sailors are desperate for more sailboat video content and it's up to US to support REAL CREATORS. Can you dig it?
Keep your eye on the horizon and a hand on the helm.
    Thanks, Mitch
P.S. Special thanks to Louis for his comment.

Great background and historical context. Great humor. You make me want to move to Texas and spend my upcoming retirement out on the water. Or maybe one Flicka for here on my beloved Great Lakes and a second one down there for winter.

I do it for skippers like you. Thank you so much for watching. Like you, I have always seen the Flicka as my retirement boat. There is a beautiful one at the end of my dock, in dark green. The owner is a very cool old man. I think he told me he was 85 years old, when he gave me the tour. His is a beautiful Flicka, with an enclosed wet head. I could definitely picture myself being an old man down in the cabin, just me, my laptop and camera. Making videos.
I think I would be good with that. Your comment lifted my spirits. Thank you. Hope to hear from you again.

Whatever it takes to keep the childhood dream alive. Life is a movie. Write a good script and try to follow it. You've set a great example of doing just that. Thanks for checking out the video.

@@smallsailboatbigwater3959 Thanks. I'm a pretty simple guy and don't sail with a lot of mod cons , I sailed old-school for a lot of years with a sextant and charts,Chart plotters were a fantasy from Star wars in the early eighties when I set off . I would love to see you do a review of the Shannon 28. I'm very happy with it, it's also like the Flicker and has her groove when underway . I've been putting in a good amount of time getting her offshore ready ie: monitor self steering, all new standing and running rigging ,full suit of new sails .even new refrigeration . I've upgraded all the winches to chrome on bronze Lewmar Ocean self tailing winches. Hopefully it will see me through the next twenty years into my mid eighties. I continue on home in NZ next year. Keep the videos coming.. awesome 👍

Hey, Mitch! So excited to see this one -- the Flicka is a phenomenal pocket cruiser with quite the following, and it seems I've come across many-a-Com-Pac-lovers who also salivate over these little treasures! As it turns out, I may be in the market for a Pacific Seacraft -- tho, one of the Flicka's bigger sisters -- I'm looking at the Dana and also the Orion -- and I've even been tempted by the 31 ft'er, too. If I make my move out west, I may also be working for a dealer that sells Pacific Seacraft Yachts AND Com-Pacs -- talk about boat heaven!!! Thanks, again, for this one, Mitch -- would love to see one of these on the Dana as well! 🙏⛵🌞🤗

Thanks Chelle! The Flicka is the boat that I have never been able to get out of my mind. She sparked the wild child, free spirit that got me here. It's been foundational. A glance her way takes one 1,000 miles from where they are. It's the fiberglass embodiment of true freedom. The Dana is all that, with more of everything. Keep us posted on your quest and next endeavors. Thanks so much.

Maybe someday. I've been a fan of the Flicka forever. But, I'm still enamored with my Com Pac 23. When I consider all the factors that make the perfect sailboat. For me, the CP23, after all my research, is the best out there. Sure, the boat could use cabin update, to open it up, it's been 46 years. What are the Hutch Bro's waiting for? I hope they raise the aft roof, dog house it, while they're at it.
Then. It's the perfect pocket cruiser.
      For me.

O.K., I'll see your Flicka 20 ... and I'll raise you a Nor'Sea 27. Better numbers all around on Sailboat Data --- compare them. 50 more produced than the Flicka, 138.06 more pounds/inch immersion. Designed by Lyle Hess who also designed the Bristol Channel Cutter, Foulmouth Cutter, and the Montgomery line in addition to the Nor'Sea 27 and 37. That would be my choice to go over the falls, hell it's my dream boat ... some day, some day!!!

The Nor'Sea 27 isn't in the same 15' to 25' pocket cruiser range. It's a great boat, no doubt, but a different animal and not barrel like.
If you're going over the falls, you want something more compact and tough. Bruce Bingham's...Flicka 20.
I'm sure a Nor'Sea 27 is out there with your name on it. Thanks for checking out the vid.

I was going by the definition of pocket cruiser being 15 foot to 25 foot. Anything above that being considered a midsize cruiser. I’m not saying this is the correct definition, but to my findings it is the most common definition, so it’s the one I chose to go by.
No doubt the Nor’Sea is a great boat.
