Isn't it crazy how most of the Beatles' inspiration clusters within a six-mile radius of their little neighbourhood? When they were young, they found so much creativity with only the mundane things in their reach. Even at this point in their life, they had no idea how big the world was going to be for them, not yet!
Just comes to show you to how incredible they were at songwriting! You wouldn't ever of believed it, aha. I certainly didn't when I watched this awhile back lmao
This is great! Interesting side-note: McCartney said in a recent interview that he came up with the name "Eleanor Rigby" for his song, and only later found out that it was on a headstone in Liverpool.
1.42 in John's childhood front-garden at 'Mendips'. I planted those plants! I was the gardener there & I re-planted many of the plants to re-create it as it was in John & his Aunt Mimi's day.
40 seconds in and already that's the wrong barber shop by Penny Lane. Paul even went into the right one during his carpool kareoke show. Bioletti it was called (now Tony Slavin) on Church Rd.
Bishopsgate is wrong too. Being For The Benefit Of Mr Kyte refers to a Victorian circus which took place in the Bishop's Gate area of Rochdale, which is 40 miles North East of Liverpool. The Bishopsgate in London is completely different. And then there's Eleanor Rigby, which was a name Paul made up by combining the actress Eleanor Bron and Rigby's Antiques in London.
Except that I don't think Bioletti's was where Tony Slavin's is now. You can see it (Bioletti's) in old footage of Liverpool, it appears to be a tiny place, painted black, squeezed in next to a tobacconist's, on a slight slope near a corner, IIRC. Not sure if it was even in Penny Lane...
PaperCup Hey Paper cup, yes they’re both in the same location. Actually the road is called Smithdown Place and it’s at the big junction of Penny Lane. I’m fairly local so know the area well.
Strange to think both Lennon & McCartney lost their mother’s when they were so young. The shared experience features in their songs and inadvertently added to their creativity.
There are quit a few things that are inaccurate in this video, as pointed out by other commentators. At 12:21 it shows the current (as of 2018) offices of Apple Records. This in NOT the location of the famous Beatles Rooftop Performance. In 1969 Apple Records, then known as Apple Corp, was located at 3 Savile Row. That is where the rooftop performance took place. In 2018, if one does a Google Maps search for Apple Records, it shows that Apple Records is located at 27 Ovington Square, which is correct - for 2018, but it is not the 1969 location of Apple Corp/Records.
I love the idea of this video and felt bad picking out incorrect info. However the effort that’s gone into making this (it looks great!) surely some better research could’ve gone into the accuracy. Paul has also stated quite a few times that the Eleanor Rigby grave is a coincidence.
Being For The Benefit Of Mr Kyte refers to a Victorian circus which took place in the Bishop's Gate area of Rochdale, which is 40 miles North East of Liverpool. The Bishopsgate in London is completely different.
I would have liked to see some of the location shots for the movie "Help", as well. Also, what about Harrison's and Starr's childhood homes? It's not like they never wrote songs or performed them!
Michael Goodall No George wrote it about a fog that happens while he was in LA meaning he had to wait for it to pass before he could go to his friends house
9:24 It was a combination and a brilliant play on words. 'That Georgia's always on my mind' line was a nod to Ray Charles' song "Georgia on My Mind" which was written about the US State of Georgia. The whole song Back in the U.S.S.R is an ode to Chuck Berry's Back in the U.S.A and The Beach Boys California Girls.
Strawberry Fields Forever is on the Magical Mystery Tour album and EP... not Sgt Pepper. And the grave did not inspire Eleanor Rigby, as Paul McCartney was unaware of it at the time he wrote the song. 'Savoy Truffle' is the name of a chocolate variety in Macintosh's 'Good News' ,also referenced in the song, rather than 'a direct reference' to the Hotel.
drewtube73 wasn’t savory truffle also mocking Eric claptons inability to eat sweets st the the time. It was recently talked about on George’s social media
it was on Magical Mystery Tour LP (not EP) only because Capitol put it there against the band's will, it has that much to do with Magical Mystery Tour as "I've Just Seen a Face" with Rubber Soul. But it's always was closely associated with Sgt. Pepper, it's like an extension of this album.
Some of this things are wrong: Get Back was based off Linda McCartney's ex-husband who lived in Arizona all his life, and Blue Jay Way was written when Derek Taylor got lost in Los Angeles on his way to where George Harrison was staying it, due to heavy fog.
As a scouser I pass these places without even batting an eye. Comments like this make me realise how iconic it is. Even a road like penny lane is one of the most famous streets in the world. And it’s no more than a lyric on a piece of paper. Shows the power of the Beatles too.

Some the facts in the video are wrong like Eleanor Rigby Paul always liked the name Eleanor and wanted to do a song about the name but it needed a surname to make a nice rhythm and he passed a shop called rigbys
Magical Mystery Tour was amazing. I did the National Trust one as well where you go into John's and Paul's houses and you are literally standing in history.

And Savoy Truffle was just one of the many chocolates named in the song that were in the Mackintosh's "Good News" assortment. Nothing to do with the hotel.
Correction: "Eleanor Rigby" wasn't inspired by that gravestone. It's merely a coincidence. Paul McCartney said that he just thought of names that matched together while he was writing the song. And it was only after the release of the song when he found out that there was an actual woman named Eleanor Rigby.
I found The Beatles music 2-3 years ago - I mean I really started to listen their music & reading books - never been England. So nice comp of The Beatles songs with info.
Very good question. About that song, it was a veiled reference to their LSD provider, and cryptic enough to be harmless. Except, a year later all the drug stuff went public! I doubt Dr. Robert was too pleased with the song then.
The Tuscon Arizona reference is about Linda's anthropologist ex-husband who lived there. At the time Paul & Linda were dealing with him due to custody issues over her daughter Heather.
