That Viper 'wheelie'... could have been nasty. I liked the parts where they took a break but we got a few in car silent laps with Risi and more, and you could hear the background talk.
Great race. We really need more races with just the gt cars. Or if the series was really feeling brave, make the entire thing gt only. I would wager 90% of people tune in for the gtlm class, may as well feature them and let them race for the overall wins.
They're actually doing more than this race that way...Because of the track "conditions" they chose to divide the classes. And it's not always the GT's separated from the Prototypes. At another track they ran the PC and the GTD together and the DP, P and GTLM together. On the "bigger" tracks they still run all the classes together..
I actually liked just having GT cars on track at one time. The focus could be one them where there is always good racing. The PC cars pretty much got screwed this weekend though.
Quick question, do the GTLM machines (or the newer GT machines back in the ALMS) have auto blipping? I think I remember watching a foot cam in one of the Porsche RSR entries and the driver wasn't blipping the throttle on downshifts, but I can't remember if it was this series or not.
stupidstormy36 I chatted to Ron Fellows during the C6.R GT1 days and he would blip the throttle without using the clutch pedal. He would use the clutch pedal during wet track conditions though to make sure to not lock the rear wheels.Todays GT2 cars have the paddle shifters, but I'm not sure if this includes auto blipping.
*****, that the best guess I heard of the 2, bit on this actual tape here ^ they show the difference. GTLM was GT3 or GTE and GTD had smaller rear wings and less front downforce winglets, and stock air boxes, while the GTLM had modified intake manifolds and air boxes. What surprised me the most was that the rear wings of the GTD weren't that much smaller from GTLM for their lap times to be as far as they are. Either or overall I'm just glad GTD is some form of GT3 now opposed to that 5 lug GT whatever it used too be last year...
Joseph Jones You're getting it wrong, man GTE = GTLM = what was known as GT2 before GTD = modified GT3 cars In 2013, the Grand-Am GT cars were self-regulated racing cars that were somewhere between GT4 and GT3 but allowed models that the FIA would not allow like the Camaro, the Pontiac GTO, the Mazda RX-8 and others
*****, Mr Ruiz my claims are not my thinkings, I'm restating what Dorsey says on this tape, so how can I be wrong if i'm re saying Dorsey's segment about the cars. I'm sure he knows more than us..:
No Diego is right. Dorsey is over simplifying it for the 'Mericans. Although the lines have been severely blurred by TUSCC, GTE/GTLM is not a GT3 car with extras it is a different set of building rules. GT3 is regulated buy a benchmark which the cars a balanced too so the ways and means of getting a lap time are very loose, where as GTE/GTLM cars are only limited by the rule book, so in order to make a successful car you have to scrape every last bit of performance out of the perimeters in the rule book. The rule book is very similar to old GT2 specs. GTE is much more expensive then GT3. GT3 cars, although cheaper, could probably be balanced with GTE cars on the track because again they are just limited by an arbitrary benchmark. GT3 will most likely be what future FIA GT and ACO GT cars will be based on (or at least the system of balancing) because of the success of the platform due to cost reduction.
About 2 minutes of pure engine sound onboard the Risi Ferrari at about2 hours to go! This should be done way more often on the main feed and not only via separate streams and feeds. Too bad on nearly all broadcasts worldwide the commentators sees to be paid per spoken word.
When I look at all those contacts occuring during this race, what was said in the driver's meeting?? Let's play stock cars and forget what we learned about driving??
Could they put a sandtrap outside of NASCAR to keep cars from smacking that wall so hard in the rain? No room to gather it up there in the rain and nothing to slow you down once you're on the grass.
***** I think the danger of the corner is important and I'd be sad to see it get a paved runoff. I think something to slow the cars down if they slide on the grass while it's wet would be good to keep the track "race fit." Painted tarmac seems to work as it has consistent but low grip, whereas grass is bumpy and random. You can see that as soon as he was on the grass there was no way to keep the car out of the wall. I'd personally like these kind of "ballsy" corners balanced to where losing control costs you your race but not necessarily your car.
What? Did someone paint all the cars orange and put an 01 on the sides? Sounded like Dorsey needed to take some lessons from Bo Duke on that "yee-haw".
When is the BoP finally going to give the Corvettes a chance? I have just watched them for the past 3 races be out ran by superior power. Heck the Ferrari, with a car that just came from an off track and a terrible Oak tree exit, out run the lead Corvette down the back straight. We watched in qual as they were out ran on both of their cars for the past 3 events. Is Tudor BoP specifically trying to not let Corvette have a fighting chance? Are we BoPing the cars or the results for sensationalism, a la NASCAR who almost ruined this series in the first few races? Come on.
the corvettes had the BOP in their favor the entire first half of the season. how about BMW not having any help with BOP and being 8-10mph slower than every manufacturer, now thats complete garbage. In all the races so far EVERY Re-start with a BMW in the front resulted in them getting passed with virtually no effort on the straight-a-ways.
777 RWHP I don't disagree. Do you think the solution is to regulate the Corvette team to the back where they obviously have no chance? A team that could win at LeMans can't even finish in the top 5 in Tudor? This is a reasonable solution?
it is sad the vettes got so much of the BOP weenie. 28 kg I believe. that's a lot at 1 time. most of the races they won this yr were from strategy and decent fast cars. they had a good all around car not too good at any 1 thing. the bmw could use a lil help for speed but they have awesome cornering speed. so its kinda hard. they would need more kg and lower downforce to get it to match.
I don't understand why drivers are doing "double duty" There are plenty of drivers that should have a seat on a single team per race. There shouldn't be people doing back to back stents in multiple cars, too many problems with that. For one the drivers ( no matter how good they may be) has to change there driving style to suite the second car, and will inevitably lose time on track because of it. Secondly they are going to be worn down a bit and even more frustrated with the second car for the reasons in the first problem! Make these teams hire drivers that are only linked to one car per race!!!
Themayseffect A lot of the drivers are not professional drivers, so they just drive for fun. To maximize their fun they might drive in two different cars. It's as easy as that. The teams will not prevent that because they are either paid a lot of money but that driver or the driver even owns the whole team. You will most likely not see double duty drivers in works teams with professional drivers, because you can only score points in one car anyway.
armorgeddon All of these drivers are professionals, I think you mean experts. Even if it is fun, it doesn't help the teams reputation if those drivers can't drive to the fullest if they're worn down and still trying to figure out the car and track.
Themayseffect No theres Pro drivers and Pro-Am drivers, or in old terms "Gentleman drivers." Pro drivers make their living driving race cars and are typically in GTLM and P. Pro-Am drivers are drivers who typically pay a lots of money in sponsorship to drive and are typically in the GTD and PC classes which are Pro-Am, needing 1 pro and 1 Amatuer driver. Works and P teams can have two Gold or higher rated "Pro" drivers but can have a 3rd "Amatuer" driver in the 4 NAEC events.
Nate Sanaker Okay regardless of this difference, both examples are driving in a professionally hosted championship with cash rewards for winning. So with that, they are all a professional in some manner. But for example , driver Spencer Pumpely of Flying Lizard, was said to be driving in multiple cars (he is considered a Professional), and considering i never made an initial statement with regards to professional drivers, this point has nothing to do with my initial comment. BUT EITHER WAY, ANY DRIVER on the track driving a GT3( or any professionally manufactured) race car should not be doing double stents for my listed reasons! ESPECIALLY if they ARE NOT a "Pro" driver in there respective class.
Themayseffect because money. A lot of teams are running on a budget that is a net loss or barely anygain after sponsorships and winnings. If they are down a driver they sometimes need a driver to sit in the extra car for a stint to still be able to compete.
That Viper 'wheelie'... could have been nasty. I liked the parts where they took a break but we got a few in car silent laps with Risi and more, and you could hear the background talk.
You know you watch a lot of endurance racing when a 2 hour 40 minute race feels short.
Excellent race - great commentators (as always!). Thank you!
V.I.R is an awesome track, i love it every time i go there with our college's race team.
Tiger Firle
Epic track. Epic cars. Epic ending. GT racing at its best
9:28 Viper almost did a wheelie.
Tudor will be around a while ! Great Race all around.
You know a track is difficult when there are so many drivers having offs, especially the pros in the GTLM cars
42:18 - 44:15 best part of the video, just listening to the Ferrari is music..
This video is ten minutes longer than the last two races, Fox decided to listen to everyone saying there were to many commercials.
Dorsey is the best announcer out there right now.
Great race. We really need more races with just the gt cars. Or if the series was really feeling brave, make the entire thing gt only. I would wager 90% of people tune in for the gtlm class, may as well feature them and let them race for the overall wins.
That Viper makes a damn good lawnmower.
so why are they running two races now? the fun of this was that there were four kinds of cars on the track at once...
They're actually doing more than this race that way...Because of the track "conditions" they chose to divide the classes. And it's not always the GT's separated from the Prototypes. I actually liked just having GT cars on track at one time. The focus could be one them where there is always good racing.
The PC cars pretty much got screwed this weekend though.
Has to do with pit lane. If there's not enough room for nearly 50 cars at once then they go to split races.

Yep, the GT cars adopted paddle shifters a few years ago, leaving behind the sequential shifters that required blipping on downshifts.
That's what I thought, but wasn't too sure. Thanks.

armorgeddon GT2 is LM GTE nowadays of course :-)
armorgeddon That's actually an interesting bit of info. Thanks for the further feedback.
I thought it was s1ck too see GT3 machines on track all by their selves for once,..
GTE is GT2, GTD are modified GT3 cars (not sure if faster or slower)

1:09:25 wheelie!
To say the least , this track eats cars for lunch.

how did the announcers go to the drivers meeting if they did the broadcast from charlotte?
They are at the track.

Wow Viper really dropped the ball on this one.
Risi showed the rest what is up...

I think its better if u don't put urself in that position. if u take risks and fail u will pay for it. give and take

You just have to wait for the video to process. 720p is now available.
Those Porsche factory guys need to chill out. Hitting everyone all season even their teammates

I hope they even out the bop by the time they get to cota... the corvettes are just irrelevant now :/
