Devin T came to our little city of Salisbury near Stonehenge in England and played in the arts centre which is a de-concecrated medieval church and played a solo acoustic show where he played some acoustic songs and acoustic re-arrangements of his songs from his back catalogue. It as amazing to hear acoustic guitar in his peculiar tunings like open C and open B so sounded very different than usual e-tuned acoustic guitar performances. He also characterised three or four different singing voices both male and female. It was one of the most impressive performances I've ever seen and he was so appreciative that we were sitting respectfully in silence and whooping and clapping and cheering after every song and every bit of guitar wizardry he produced almost like a jazz or lounge gig. He stayed at the end and spoke to everyone that queued up to meet him. His music was ethereal and playing is so unusual and captivating - it was just amazing and the hundred or so people that were there, me among them, witnessed something truly unique and remarkable from an artist at the Zappa level of excellence at the top of his powers. Just superb in every way - and a true genuinely friendly and likable gentleman. You'll always be welcome in the UK Mr Townsend and a credit to Canada and rock/metal.
He is hardly Zappa Level. He doesn't even know the notes on his Guitar neck, cannot read music, and relies on Mike Kenealy to take care of the things Zappa was a fucking genius at.

If Dev wasn't so damn funny, this wouldn't be watchable. Lol his music is so multi layered, it's hard to make it translate to just him and the guitar. I've seen him do it, but it's usually with the more mellow stuff.

My admiration of the man is completely personal. I too am a unconventional weirdo with a guitar.. tryna make music.. I found Devin at a dark time where I was about to just quit.. life.. everything. Devin is hope for us weirdos that within each of us is the potential to be greater than we think we are.. and to never forget that and never drasticly compromise yourself for others... many get confused in that understanding and it slips into idol worship.. but that's pretty much the core of that.. oh and Ziltiod... just..
