This camera rules. Even for filmmakers like myself, I’m always wishing I had something easy to do the fast jobs. Interviews, run and gun broll, and live event. You could get 2/3 of these and produce a really really nice live performance package. Anyone who makes documentary work that isn’t just branded scripted interviews can always benefit from something like this that doesn’t take their attention away from the subject.
These cameras are going to be fantastic for video-journalists! I used a "professional camcorder" from Panasonic while working for a news outlet and loved the focal range but the image quality fell apart when compared to any hybrid cameras out at the time
yep...I need to replace my ancient Canon XF300 for wedding ceremonies and speeches etc...with ok lit locations might be ok...I Hope it's BETTER than the older camcorders with small sensors..not as good as my FX30 or the FX6 of course but decent.
I've always wanted camcorder with a standard prime lens. it might sound odd but I think if they did a super 35 sensor, 10bit 422 up to 120fps with built in ND and great audio it would be killer. No fuss, no set up, no wires, just amazing image quality, switch on and go.
I agree with Tomato, we need an super 35 version of the FX6 in this form factor or this camera with a larger sensor that's good in lower light situations for example the much older Sony PD170 used to have fantastic low light performance with a 3CCD chip.
I'm currently testing the Z200 and I have mixed feelings. The camera is ideal for a lone shooter who makes TV news, maybe corporations that record a lot of training and employees without much knowledge of filming do it, some religious associations for broadcasting services, small TV stations, etc. To sum up, everywhere where a small depth and a film image are not required. Maybe the army and special services, because it has a night mode and a large zoom range. However, I don't see any use for FX-type cameras here. It is true that it is equipped with S-log 3, but it is not very useful, even at the basic ISO that can be set there, i.e. 1600. The image lags behind a lot, not only FX6 or FX3 but also every new small Alpha and the noise in the shadows is terrible. The most useful are these two REC709 modes, but TV image is not my cup of tea :) I agree that releasing such a camera, even with identical parameters but with a Super 35mm sensor, would make more sense. But that's just my opinion, everyone is entitled to their own and I respect that.
I owned a curriculum company and for recording school stuff, Camcorders are the best option. I have always needed Camcorder and until now the best one were Canon. I also do a lot of church and Conference work, and guess what? Having a camera at the back with the soundboard, you need a Camcorder.
When its a 1inch they are gonna wish it was micro4/3. When it is micro4/3 they are gonna wish it was super 35. And when it's super 35 they are gonna wish it was full frame.
We're about to pick up one of these for ENG. We already shoot a lot of video on Sony alpha hybrids, and are glad the've brought their camcorders to the same standards.
I kinda want a m43 version of this too! BUT actually I could live with a 1" sensor if they'd trade zoom-range for compactness. Gimme a XC10, XC15 style thingy with a 24-120equiv. and a constant f2.8 (or f2 if that's not too greedy).
This is for the average consumer to film their kids sports games, or people who want to shoot a quick interview or documentary. I just hope they bring this tech to the other handy cams like ax 53
Consumers film their kids’ sports games on their phones, and who shoots a "quick documentary"? :O I mean, the convenience of camcorders has been overlooked for something like 15 years, and I love to see Sony improve their camcorders! But I wonder if this will find many users. Outside of documentary and news work, I don’t know who would want this.
no body talked about if it has dual native iso ranges ......does it have cache recording like the fx6 .....is there a fan built inside to keep it cool while filming long events .....can it take vmount batteries ? there is xlr but does it also have 3.5mm jack ?
Most customers of this camera will probably be shooting in 1080p and outputting 1080i via SDI for multicam live video production. This is a dream for local news, live sports, worship, and long-form video production. Would be a great upgrade for local TV Productions still using 3CCD 1080i camcorders from 2012, and youd be surprised how many still do.
Yes our network still shoots 1080 I can see this being rolled out for sure In fact the Sony guys were showing it off this week . It reminds me of the old Sony pd150 from way back in the days when I was in film school in 2000
Was waiting for this. Shoot motocross by yourself at races and tell me you don’t need a camcorder. It’s has its purposes for sure! Curious about the image though it looked noisey.
Well my nx800 the cheaper version of the z200, it showed up yesterday and I am super impressed with the image quality and the hand held stabilization when zoomed in. I been looking for a nice camcorder and this one is perfect for my needs.
My new nx800 will be here Monday. It’s going to be nice to be able to reach the whole race course when I record atv and dirt bike racing. Plus some local sports events. I been in the market looking for a nice camcorder and almost picked up the canon xf605 but since I already own Sony mirrorless cameras, this will pair up nicely with my fx30
Hi mate, want to shoot touchtennis events with something like this but 24mm is the absolute minimum I can use. Does a 1 inch sensor mean I’m getting roughly 3 x crop there and shooting at 72mm equivalent on full frame? Thanks for the video.
This is a really versatile camera for video journalism, mainly because of the XLR audio inputs, the focal range and the variable ND's. Its a far better option than an alpha camera for news, and I say this as an alpha camera owner!
9:23 Yo, 400mm looks crazy... NOISY too! I know it’s obviously not because of the focal length, but still. Some of it may be RUclips compression, and the micro jitters hurt the image too, but the noise looks unacceptable to my eyes.
I got to play with this at work the Sony boys were showing it off while we were getting trained up on the fx6. Our company has changed over from Panasonic P2 cameras to the Sony system One of the guys said the Sony fx3 is getting an update in the next day or so too with shutter angle thought I would share

From 3.01. I want this camera so badly with the FX3 or even FX30 sensor and then interchangeable lenses so I can pop on a G-Master and remove the hassle of having to pull focus solo on run and gun shoots where you have no time to prep shots. I've never seen AF this good.
2:58 Sonytubers can never help themselves. It’s always a competition. If they ever work on sets with directors that god forbid ask to use any other camera system, do you think they’ll have a meltdown?
Right now is NYFW. I saw so many videos that I know it must be shot with mirroless camera that does not have power zoom lens. Where this camera would shine in this type of shooting.
for my vloging i left my AS7II / zve10 to an dji pocket 3 and a handycam sony fdrax43 with an gimbal inside. the only reason a will buy these new camera is a stabilisation like my fdr ax 43...but unfortunally thet don't have
Internal ND + Stabe is coming to pro sumer. Probably to super 35 then APRC then full frame. The history of gear has taught us that if you can make it big and expensive, you can make it small and cheap.
Just like the old z150 it's way too expensive, in Australia the z200 is about $5030usd, you can get a fx6 brand new for $5327usd (obviously you also need a lens but the fx6 sensor is 2.6x bigger).

@@chrisbrockhurst I’m hoping now that Canon showed their cards and Komodo’s price drops, Sony is prepped to just drop the hammer with the FX line updates. With everything they have at their disposal from the Burano, Alpha and ZV lines, Sony can really keep pushing.
I think we should all get one and bring back the Handycam
I’m so down
If you factor in inflation, this new 200 costs the same as the first Handycam.

Exactly! Thanks for watching

For docs shown on RUclips is a perfect camera. Shallow depth of field is overrated when content is boring.

APS -C, 18-250mm 1.8 - 2.8, 82mm filter thread. Now this would be epic.
