Update: Thank you again for making this video - if you hadn't I probably would have bought the G5 which wouldn't have worked. I bought the G2 dock to go with my two HP e243i monitors and 2017 Macbook Pro (13'', Intel, 2x Thunderbolt 3 ports). If it will help people the ways (which you explain in the video mostly) to have two external monitors (extend display, not mirror) work for me are as follows: Method 1: One monitor connected via DP (monitor side) to one DP port (simple DP to DP cable) on the G2 dock (and then the dock USB-C cable to one of the Thunderbolt ports on the Macbook); THEN the other monitor connected via DP (monitor side) directly to the Macbook in the second Thunderbolt 3 port (via a DP to USB-C cable). This method works fine but uses both USB-C ports on the Macbook. METHOD 2: the same setup for the first monitor, but for the second monitor plugging the USB-C end of the monitor cable into the Thunderbolt port OF THE DOCK rather than directly into the Macbook. The second method allowed me to free up a USB-C port on my Macbook, but if depending on your Macbook model it may or may not work for you. Thanks again man! Lifesaver!
Thanks for the video - I want to connect 2 screens (HP with 2 HDMI ports each) to a MacBook Pro M2 Chip with Ventora 13.0 OS. Can I simply use 2 USB-C to HDMI cables, will the display quality be good & do I need to download any software? (Displaylink for example) - Many thanks!
Hi, I have a MacBook M1 Pro and an HP G5 dock. Currently, the screen only mirrors. Will it work flawlessly with G2 dock with extended display mode if I use two DP to DP cables? I need a solution quickly as I also need to work on a Windows laptop, and the current setup is quite cumbersome
I have an entire series of videos about this on my channel. Please be cognizant of the model number that I mentioned. With regards to Windows, I’m not a Windows person, but there are plenty of resources out there for that.
@@Huy_Nguyen_USA Update: I just bought, and it works for both Windows and Mac fine with 2 dp to dp cables and the display link software installed. Thanks a lot for this video man. Sometimes the displays don't get detected but that's fine.
Good to hear. I’m glad it worked out. So on my Mac, whenever the displays are not detected, usually after a long sleep cycle, I unplug and plug the usb-c cable.
Remote work We'll have dedicated screen, keyboard and mouse at the office, with an easy to unplug laptop to bring home I'm just scary about the PD, does the computer supply the dock or does the dock supply the computer ? 🤔
So you plug the dock’s power cord into the wall socket, and then you connect the MacBook to the dock via usb-c. Fwiw, I would try to get the G2. Good luck.
Hi, how did you get it to work over two external monitors? When I plugin 2 monitors it will only show 1 external screen and duplicate that to the second external monitor (hp g5 universal dock)
The G5 has issues with Silicon Macs, that's why I recommend getting the G2. Otherwise you will have to use cables like I mentioned in the video. Are you able to exchange your G5 for a G2?
I think you just saved me like $100 and a lot of trouble thanks mate
Awesome. Cheers 🥂
Perfect, thank you.

You do not need DisplayLink for that, just the cables. Thanks for watching.

Hi !
Thank you for this video
The G5 seems enough if i have just 1 screen to connect, right ?
Also they both support PD ?
Yes, however why would you need a dock if you have only 1 screen?
Remote work

Hi, I have a macbook pro m2 chip. If i took HP dockstation G5, can i connect 2 displays?
I answered this question in the video.
