Any problems inherited by the Conservatives in 2010 were the consequence of a global financial crisis. Domestically, Labour were doing really rather well up to 2008. Gordon Brown took his eye off the ball at home, to go sort it all out, and David Cameron capitalised on Brown's divided attention. If labour were doing so well up to 2008,isn't it strange that they were kicked out in 2010 because of a global problem . We'll no - Brown and Blair allowed the lightest touch regulation on the banking system which in turn allowed it to turn into the wild west. Brown did pretty well to help stabilise the situation afterwards but he had allowed the mess to develop in the first place. Rightly labour got canned in 2010.
