Every time I get frustrated about t.he pace of one of my project and “just want it done already”, I come look at this list of videos. Matt’s patience and attention to detail blows me away.
I can guarantee that the "Good enough for Matt" standard is a better finish than what you can buy at Home Depot! Definitely looking like a $500k kitchen! It needs to be in a kitchen magazine for what a high end kitchen should look like!
Having masked off many houses for painting... It's probably closer to 98% prep and masking for 2% of paint time! On average it takes 2-4 days to mask a house, but you can spray and back roll a typical bedroom in about 20 minutes (per coat). Then you have a massive masking waste bonfire at your house after the second coat has been painted!
Spray painting is the most tedious task in all of this wood working thing we all love. I have that same sprayer setup... have not touched it in years, and probably never will again. The last thing I started with the sprayer, I gave up and did it with a brush. The problem besides all the initial prep is if it is a small job, you have to let the coat dry, so that means you have to fully clean all the spray stuff as you let the paint dry and be ready for coat two.
How did breaking into, or hacking a system, become synonymous with "technique" or "process?" Are we losing the ability to speak and write? Are words over four letters too long?
Wow! It took a lot of "fixing" to get to "Matt's good enough"! Details are the best when You're the builder, installer, and owner. You can see what you want, AND You're not satisfied until you get there. I loved that Pancake didn't even flinch when moved to another location. That's the fun of living in the construction zone. Nice job Matt.
The double masker is cool... Not going to lie, but for the amount of cabinets I've had to paint, I didn't need one. Plus I usually roll the cabinet frames and spray to doors flat outside.
Your project is coming out incredible. I hope to reach your skill level someday. The link for the pressure pot is going to the double sided tape maker page.
Matt, while some may say this is a "million dollar" kitchen, it is YOUR kitchen, in YOUR home, and YOU are doing the work. Nothing wrong with that! While there are very few people that could afford to pay a pro crew to work at this level of detail and care (It would be astronomically expensive), anyone with the determination and grit can acquire the proper tools and do this themselves. Your talent and ability lead you to have the self confidence to do the work. I and a lot of others admire that in you. She is a beautiful kitchen, and every single time you walk in there, you will know with absolute truth that you did it yourself (with some help, of course)! Bravo, my friend, bravo!
You know I saw you’re podcast with Marc and the the wood salesman ( don’t know his name) and yall talked about the level of skill your videos brings. I think it sets a standard to what you should expect if you want top tier work done. I do this for a living and it motivates me to be the best I can be no matter the task. Even taping needs to be done right. And everything sings in a choir to deliver a beautiful song , if I may. So I appreciate all you Do. Your level of skill is unmatched.
Matt, your tenacious attention to detail leaves me entirely in the shade! I am in awe. It looks stunning already, and it's only going to be more so, as the cabinetry you have up your sleeve starts showing up in this space. Merry Christmas to you & yours! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
It has been a long journey since you both started this project but one thing for sure it is starting to look amazing attention to detail is second to none. Happy Christmas to you and your family and all who has been on this magnificent journey. 🎄🎄🎄🎄
Is that dust extractor good enough that you can confidently sand within the spray booth? I have had to break everything up just to avoid having dust around when I paint. If your method is reliable, it might make an investment in one of those extractors worth it!!
Wow I was thinking when I punched on this video “ Must be helping a friend his kitchen is dunnnnnnn”! Sorry bout that ! I told you I build a lot of cabinets and tried to guess your kitchen price and was a million miles off ! Did not realize the size of the fact you used all hardwoods ? So I will just say it’s totally custom to your home ! Great job !
Hi Matt, everything turned out beautiful as usual. That under cabinet cove would really pop with something other than the paneling. That small space is a great spot to make a statement that will really look great.
That was an adventure just watching! I know you were dreding that big job, but as usual, you surpased even your own expectations! Where you say good enough, other people were saying perfect long before! Thanks for the trouble of filming! Merry Christmas!
Looks great Matt. I feel your pain with this whole process. A lot of frustrations came flooding back from my own experience doing this. Recognizing and actually accepting “good enough” is so very important with stuff like this.
Oh man! This approach reminds me of times in the distant past before the computer age... and before we had anything like correction tape/fluid... if you want a perfect typing job, each time you made a mistake meant you needed to retype the whole thing all over again... I can see you are going to keep going until you get pretty much an error-free version... but at least you don't have to start all over again... lol. I don't know why I thought of that - you are doing an absolutely excellent job! Thanks for sharing this epic project with us - even your mistakes and how you addressed them. The guys who REALLY know their stuff in the carpentry world outfit yachts - and so now I wonder if you are ever going to buy and restore a boat or something. I believe you'd have the skills to do that... all the angles and curves in a boat would be quite a challenge, don't you think?
Love the attention to details. You're a true craftsman, with pride in your work. Wish you and your family, un Buon Natale e Felice Anno Nuovo pieno di saluta, gioia e prosperita.🥂🥂
It looks absolutely brilliant and your attention to detail is absolutely top notch! At 37:00 it looked like the two lights were different colour temperatures... sometimes they have a switch on them, like 3000k and 4000k, or something similar?
Someday, he will likely release this into the wild, but I can almost guarantee he’ll never take on a project like this again (at least not by himself).
Matthew; I greatly admire your painstaking masking and protecting the areas which were not to be spray-painted, and then removing it all when the job was done. Many congratulations on a project well done!
I hope people notice how much prep time is involved when you do custom work this is why it cost so much to have custom work done. It’s just not walking in there and throwing paint on the wall and saying it’s good….. Very good job 🇺🇸👊🏼👊🏼✌🏼🪚🔨
Can't wait for the next decade to see this project finished.
lol. love ya matt, but its drawn waaaayyy out. just need a final wrap up video.

I actually hope that it never ends! This is my weekend chillout time.
Maybe the kitchen only took a few months to build and the videos took a year to edit🤔
@@heykevwhatyouup2 getting pretty close. 16 hours on average to edit each video
Greetings from the Big Sky of Montana. I ate out while I did my kitchen 15 years back.

Everything you do yourself is usually better than HomeDepot😂
Agree 100%!
Painting is 90% of prep and 10% of actual painting(the actual fun part). You are a patient man, Matt!

Pulling down masking is like watching world’s biggest present unwrapping. So satisfying.
The blue tape to add tension to the plastic thing is a great hack. I'll be using that one.

You have a HELL of a lot more patience than I do because I couldn't work on a remodel for more than a year but it is look's really nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great prep work makes for a great looking job when it’s all done. Most people don’t have the patience and skill to do it right.
Beautiful job.
Holy moly, that masking gun is a sweet setup! 3M has literally thought of everything!

OMG-------THE AMOUNT OF PREP! AND THEN---WAIT FOR IT---EVERYTHING IS READY FOR SANDING---EVERYTHING----OMG!
That was a "marathon's" worth of work. Great results. You're really good at all that prep and painting.
All the best for Christmas. I think I've waited 3 years to see that Wolf cooker LOL you don't see them much here UK
It’s nice to finally get it moved out of the barn
All I can say is WOW!!! My admiration of your skills has more than doubled.

Happy holidays to you and your family!!!

It looks so beautiful Matt, good work! I just told Donavan that i would like cove molding in our kitchen. He gave me a hard no on that one.
This painting job must take you longer than normal because you have to set up the camera each time you move so that we can see progress. 😮😮😮
Awesome work! Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Inspiring perseverance, Matt.

One thought though: Isn't the caulk going to age in a different colour than the paint?
What’s the name of the 2 side tape dispenser?

The work in this kitchen boggles my mind. Still looking forward to the second passageway being opened.

I learn something from every video you make. I noticed you had a couple of the Powermatic fan dust collectors. How does the paint spray affect them?
The charged filter does a good job of pulling the overspray out of the air
