Many people are criticizing Cole on this channel. He is a young guy with many responsibilities, and until Roman arrived, he did almost everything around the house by himself. The youngster works hard and consistently impresses me.
Not sure what specifically you are referring to in terms of criticism, but for me, I was a young guy once too, and I made many mistakes. I watch him and I see him making the same mistakes sometimes. It’s like watching a movie and yelling at the actor “don’t go in there!” It’s just frustration out of wanting to be helpful. He would be well served to occasionally ask his audience to comment on questions he has about upcoming plans more often. Many RUclips creators benefit from advice in the comments.
Cole is calling this build an underground movie theater, but it's really a storm shelter. Since 2020 there have been at least 5 Derechos, and in 2024, there have been around 123 tornadoes in Iowa. He's trying to protect his family. I can't imagine how he felt when it was just him and Nave in the basement during that one Derecho, so he's being a good man and a good father. Yeah, it's taking a while to build, but I know people that have been renovating their houses for the past 10 years. I have huge respect for Cole, Roman, and their families, and I'm gonna keep watching no matter how long it takes them. I love this family!
You're delusional. He's said all since he started the channel that he wanted an underground movie theater. Besides., the existing house already has a basement to protect his family in. Your argument makes no sense.
ICF ICF ICF ICF Blimey! Cole talked about them about 2 - 4 weeks ago, and why they weren't using them. If you're a regular viewer you know this. I can't imagine all the nagging about them will change his/their minds. Keep up the good work Cole, Roman, et al, and watch out for the bears (or is it too cold now). BTW the tip about spraying over chalk lines made the entire episode worth while. I can't believe I'd never heard it before. Cheers, MC from Aus
I have very much so enjoyed the basement and movie theater construction. I have worked in construction all the way from concrete finisher to project engineer for multi million dollar jobs. To an outside viewer is not always apparent why things happen in the order they do. Long short of it is you’re doing an excellent job! not cutting corners or doing anything halfway. For a 2-3 man crew this is beyond impressive!!! Keep up the good work!
Consider building your tent level with the ground above or slightly above this level. This way you don't have to take it down with the forms and it can stay to allow you to provide a heated area to work on your framing during the rest of the winter. You will need to make it with a slope to allow precipitation to drain off to the ground level. A short duct will allow heat into the house to keep it warmer.
Two days of learning more construction skills with the crew we’re happy for the extra helpers. Just another noisy day on site. Cole you were a greenhorn on this job site.
As hard as the work may have been, you have gained so much knowledge and experience through this. Keep it up and we’ll be watching your walls. Go up soon. Thank you for sharing. Be safe. Be blessed.
You are a remarkable man with an unbelievable work ethic. You are to be commended for your hard work on the farm, on the construction site and on the RUclips channel. Unbelievable and bravo to you, young man. Just don't burn yourself out!
This is such a great experience, Thank you guys so very much for sharing with the rest of us. I have helped tear forms down before and they were a bit older of a style, I can tell you right now the kind you are using is far easier than the stuff we used. But regardless its good old hard work! Keep it up and remember the job is just a job, there is always ways to enjoy it. May God Bless you both, and may you remember God in your thanks.
I’m learning and truly enjoying every minute of this. Cole you ARE the best ! Roman getting to work with your BFF all day fantastic. Roman you are an inspiration all around. Your family and friends are blessed to have you.
Something to think about Cole, that gang of experienced guys spent the whole day removing the forms and are not done yet. Your project is bigger and there’s 2 of you, you could be 7-10 days just tearing down. Something to think about. Great work guys
Leaving the form tag on the inside of the movie theater gives you anker points for the finished wall to float off the concrete wall . Planning ahead save money and time.
It really should be. I know I would have chosen better had I had the chance to see what I was getting into and learned from the experience of skilled workers with good positive outlooks.
You might as well put a precast cement deck on top of your poured walls and make it tornado-proof. Thank goodness you had a second day. Now you are an expert.
Thanks! buy some playtex rubber gloves and wear under the work gloves. they are really thick. should be in the section of the supermarket by the dish soap.
Yes! I was thinking along the lines of him hiring some Amish to help him. They are cost-effective laborers and already fully skilled who bring their own tools. They would be happy to stay in your heated shop too. Cole!
Hello Cole, Back in 1982, I worked for a small local company that poured basement walls. The forms we had were 8' tall, 2' wide and 1' thick, and weighted 100 lbs. They had a latch and pin system to tie the forms together. There are some that were as narrow as 4" x 8' x 1" thick. We also had 4' tall forms for craw spaces.
Commenting for the algo: great video, as always. Matt looked like he was a good sport with your teasing, but in one of the clips he looked like he was going to throw down, and even with your phenomenal arm wrestling strength, you would have lost that one lol. Many thanks to Roman's friend who is letting ya'll job shadow and learn new skills (and are giving the rest of us a sneak peek at the secret sauce as well), and I'll catch you in the next one. :)
Just down the street from my house they built a new overpass for the interstate highway and the night watchman had to make sure the concrete heater was maintained. When the watchman fell asleep the concrete over heated and dried too fast. The contractor went bust having to demo and replace "All" the concrete because it compromised the strength of the pour.
I’m one of the guys that delivers the forms. Godwin forms you can rent them. Probably not in your area. I own a couple trucks. Flat bed work. Find forms a call a freight broker/trucking company havum delivered. Your rebar prolly could have been directly del if ya knew the trucking co few extra $$. Anyway great video Great job I do a lot of large construction del.
Don’t worry about the grizzlies in that area black bears would be more of a problem. I live just South of there by Riverton 😊😊keep up the great videos!!
We look forward to your video! We like every one of them. I personally like that you like to learn new things because my husband and I are like that. It’s not putting down anyone that does something as a profession but just trying something new for yourself. Keep learning as you go. I like that your not to proud to ask professional or have them check your work. Keep up the good work!!!
I worked for a concrete company and when we filled in holes after pulling forms we used pink insulation board cut in squares to put on the mud better then using your gloves or tools
Next time you try grouting ,Roman. Use a rubber float. It's like a sponge with a float handle made for that job. And Cole, if you were doing ICF, the only thing you would be doing is taking off the bracing and water sealing the outside and backfill.
That is a GPS. I think I saw the base station in one of the other shots. So, he has pre determined points that were engineered and that’s how they get it sub inch accurate with the base station. It’s basically RTK. That set up with base station is about 25-30k.
Don't hire any Tom, dick and Harry for the form building. Hire experienced workers. I enjoyed watching the video. Roman your still a power house worker. Cole your learning. Huge thumbs up to the crew, they are amazing
Roman I would think about getting one of those silicone cake batter spoons you know like they have like the rectangular ends. And then you can scoop it out of the bucket and press it down better on to the holes back at the movie theater. Because it's more malleable than a stiff putty knife
Should start counting how many times Cole says $7000 mansion and underground movie theater. Who be awesome to see bear. Valuable several days of observing well worth your time Cole and Roman
So incredibly proud of you! To have the humility to go learn from a pro vs. the hubris of thinking you know it all. You're quite the guy Cole! Oh, and Roman is OK too. 🙂
Oh my god I’m losing it at the beginning I thought you were at the house,I thought you going to have fish in the movie theatre, sometimes at the age of 81 the porch lights are on but nobody’s home.lol😊

When doing your inside corners just remembet to point your pins outwards. And also when removing your pins and wedges grab your wedge and smack the pin on the head and it will loosen your wedge and it wont come out and hit you in the face
It's the seasoning that's added to the ground meat that's a problem, so chorizo is questionable because it's also well seasoned. Pork steaks are plain, not ground meat, and cooked to your liking.
Cole when you get to food you don’t have to wonder to long as long as as it’s Mexican that’s why you will choose every time and we all know it. Personally I’d get tired of it but whatever floats your boat boat

2nd that. Use ICF save yourself the headache of stripping forms and you’re already insulated.

Please have Cody send you a picture of the finished fish screen...I'm dying to see what it looks like!
Cody is the name of the city where they're staying. Devon is the name of the general contractor.
Cody is nice. You should visit. I used to live there.
I was about to say the same thing! Please yes share the finished product!!
I believe Roman's friend is named Devin. And i too would love to see the completed project being used by the fish 😊

In a pinch,Dollar store hair spray also works well to coat your string line.
How long until Cole realizes chorizo is sausage?
And good sausage at that! 😂
delicious sausage, but if he's anything like me, that grease comes back with a vengeance
He found out what cold plastic makes a man say yeee after the sausage gods done there magic

He's said there's no schedule at all to his house remodel -- that it takes however long it takes.
What an adventure. So awesome of Devon to being you two along. Thanks for sharing with us. You two have got this.
Knowing how much you enjoy learning...good video
Looking forward for your next upload!
We love this channel, there's always something popping off. Action and adventure.

Hairspray does a nice job on the chalkline as well... and you can avoid a bad hair day at the same time !
- Grissley Bears - I’m no grissley bear expert but I assume they hibernate in winter. Think Cole and crew are safe for a few months😊
Hi Cole - you’re learning so much! Looking forward to the underground movie theater walls! 😊😉💯🙏

Thoroughly enjoy watching you learn new techniques... Apprenticeship needs to be encouraged for any upcoming workers young or old...❤😊

considering 7k was like 6 million dollars when it was first built means Cole is putting another at multiple sets of generations of life into it
Sounds about right. 👍
I forget what it was when I used an inflation calculator 7k was in today's money.
It's going to be a 5 million dollar movie theater!
