There are singers, and then there are artists. Hua Hua is a true artist in the purest form. One never knows what you will get from Hua Chenyu. Whether he is composing his own song, or rearranging a cover song, he is a master. As you have mentioned, you have only seen two of his songs. You are in for a rollercoaster ride. You definitely have seen his stage performance, but in songs like Dear Friend, and Dad, I'm Home, the emotions come pouring out (both songs are reconstructed). What is even more amazing is when he competed on the show that requires the contestants to reconstruct covers in just 24 hours (Dad, I'm Home). When he mentors others and is not the contestant, he creates marvelous pieces (Nanping Evening Bells). His Mars series is wonderful to see him do it on concert where his audience of 100,000 gets to participate. There is just so much about this guy that will surprise you. As you get to know him, you want to get to know the man behind the songs, and those impressions give clarity to the music he produces. As a suggestion, I recommend finding songs from shows where there are interviews before/after the song to give more appreciation to what you watch.
I call this "Devil Hua", if you can watch his Singer2018 performances in order, maybe it's easier for you to understand what he tried to express in his music. "Qi Tian" => My arrival; "Child" => My childhood; "Nunchucks" => My arrogance; "I Don't Care" => My apathy; "Flammable and Explosive" => The world's conflicting expectations of me; "Wayfarer" => My disappointment after opening up to the world; "Fake Monk" => My inner struggle and salvation; "Ordinary Path" => Clenching my teeth to face myself; "I Am What I Am" => Finding myself. Sorry, in my opinion none of the other artists were even close allthough some of them had excellent vocals. Neither in Singer 2018 nor in 2020. Which he won. But… there is one exception… the Mongolian singer Tengger/Tengri. His rendition of his song Heaven about his homeland is one of my favourite ever. And im no spring chicken .. oh my. Please do more Hua Chenyu… his own songs are incredible😊 Maybe 7 Personalities from the New Year Gala 2019/20. Its unique. Personally i dont think hes after world fame. He is happy as it is. No concerts outside China. But if anyone deserves that fame, its him.
He explains a little bit why he is performing the song this way in the prestage interview. You can find it with eng subs here on RUclips. Basically he conveys the feelings/ emotions of his lonely childhood. The struggles he had with to wanted to beloved but rejecting it at the same time.... It is rare for HuaHua to explain what he wants to convey. This shows how important this performance was for him I think. Normally he want the people to make their own opinions about the meaning of his songs.

I loved him more and more with every performance I watched. Later I checked the lyrics to every of his songs..... and loved him and his music even more. He is a deep thinker and especially for his own songs the lyrics are always amazing. On Singer 2018 they were only allowed to sing 2 of their own songs. Qi Tian (Ep 4) and I don't care (Ep 7) are his own compositions. This song Fake Monk is a cover he rearranged in this amazing way. He has everybody on the edge of their seats. It is so captivating. This is a very deep song, I got chills and goosebumps when I first heard of this song. This is an experience, not a song anymore. He’s a top artist and performer. This song was about his lonely childhood, the dark side of him, but lucky he felt in loved with music, and that saved him, and he turned out to be a super kind, warm hearted and talented person, I’m so glad. He got so many his own songs that touches my heart deeply. The song that he wrote for people experiencing depression-“I really want to love this world”, many people wrote in that song saved their lives.

The song is about a person trying to live some aspects of his life according to those of a monk. Someone who pretends to have lofty ideals and attaches himself from worldly posssessions. However, Hua Chenyu interprets this person as one who does not know which path to take in life, someone who is frightened to love and be loved and therefore detaches himself. He is portraying someone who is lonely, hurt, frightened inside - although appearing to be fine on the outside. He looked to past experiences to portray this fake monk. In Singer 2018, all artists were only allowed to perform two of their own songs. He performed "Equal to Heaven" and "I Don't Care", which are his original songs, and the rest were rearranged by him. Even the cover songs became his own in a sense, as he rearranged them to express his understanding of the world. You should definitely react to his own songs, but the rearrangements are exceptionally great, he never just covers a song one to one. 💕

You really should check out the one with the subtitles, not only to learn the lyrics but also because it has an extra bit to the end (which was cut short in the one you just reacted to). That extra bit actually makes the performance even more wholesome.
Outstanding work of art, Hua Hua has done a lot of artistic work, mostly of his own creation and some are very confronting yet brilliant. I'm with you regarding subs at first, I find them distracting for the first viewing but then I like to watch again with subs - crazy but then I actually 'hear' the subs!! More from Singer 2018? Tengger singing Heaven, his own composition which is beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time and Tenggers performance on Singer was inspiring. (incidentally Hua Hua rearranged on a show called The Next, it was a stunning cover.) There are actually a lot of awesome performances by all artists on The Singer shows however Hua Chenyu and Jesse J were the most consistently brilliant.
This man is a genius. On "The Singer" they can only do two of their own songs. They have one week to rearrange a song. There is another show called "The Next" which he was on where they only get 24hrs to rearrange a song and 75% of the time its one of their opponents songs. I would suggest you listen to the original before you react to his performance. It will blow your mind. The two on "The Next" I recommend are "Dad I'm Home" (very dark song) and "Nanping Evening Bell" (truly a beautiful song) which is a duet and may be my favorite.

He consider his voice as part of the instruments and with every original songs, even though he didn’t write the lyrics, he always painfully make sure the lyrics conveys what he is trying to sing. He can get the lyricists change the whole entire lyrics if he doesn’t fell right about it. And his lyrics for his originals are so meaningful. I grew up reading subs my entire life so it’s becomes natural for me. I get it when someone that is not use to it will get distracted to it. What I would recommend maybe read the lyrics in advance? When you listen to a beautiful English songs was it not amplified your love for that song when the lyrics touches you immediately too? It is the same when I listen to HuaHua’s song. Tengger singing Heaven, his own composition which is beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time and Tenggers performance on Singer was inspiring. (incidentally Hua Hua rearranged on a show called The Next, it was a stunning cover.) There are actually a lot of awesome performances by all artists on The Singer shows however Hua Chenyu and Jesse J were the most consistently brilliant.
This man is a genius. On "The Singer" they can only do two of their own songs. They have one week to rearrange a song. There is another show called "The Next" which he was on where they only get 24hrs to rearrange a song and 75% of the time its one of their opponents songs. I would suggest you listen to the original before you react to his performance. It will blow your mind. The two on "The Next" I recommend are "Dad I'm Home" (very dark song) and "Nanping Evening Bell" (truly a beautiful song) which is a duet and may be my favorite.

The H in Hua isn’t silent and British would say watch as watch 😂😂 Have been telling those who advised to just call him watching yu is really doing a disservice to Hua Chen Yu but some stubbornly persist. Hua Chenyu is definitely one of the most phenomenal singers in the world. His voice alone can convey a wide array of emotions. You should check out Qi Tian (his song), Jackdaw Boy (his song), I Don't Care (his song), Ordinary Path, Wayfarer, Great Sage Equal to Heaven (From the Next ep 7), Skateboard Shoes (from the Next ep3), Drunk as a Lonely Hero....jeez I can go on & on & on & on - his whole discography is amazing!!!!!

He consider his voice as part of the instruments and with every original songs, even though he didn’t write the lyrics, he always painfully make sure the lyrics conveys what he is trying to sing. He can get the lyricists change the whole entire lyrics if he doesn’t fell right about it. And his lyrics for his originals are so meaningful. I grew up reading subs my entire life so it’s becomes natural for me. I get it when someone that is not use to it will get distracted to it. What I would recommend maybe read the lyrics in advance? When you listen to a beautiful English songs was it not amplified your love for that song when the lyrics touches you immediately too? It is the same when I listen to HuaHua’s song. (Only with HuaHua, you’ll find so many ask reactors to have subs on😅) HuaHua is that special. Thank you for your 10/10. (To us Martians, he surpassed any numbers). He won Singer 2020. If you wants his original, can I suggest Ashes from Fireworks? The lyricist wrote the lyrics (change the entire lyrics 3 ) to match HuaHua’s character and personalities. (You don’t have to have subs, but maybe read the translations in advance), I will leave the link in the reply comment. Gosh... I bet you people will start suggesting ‘Dad, I’m home’....😅 Having said so much about lyrics, HuaHua is very relaxed in how people interpret his song.
