- Here's my playthrough of The Guardian Legend : Secret Edition by Optomon. The best hack ever made and is extremely difficult - more than the original one. I also used some different tactics from you guys, which is a little bit faster, also a little bit more dangerous...
Almost 40 years old and still the best video game on NES. A game before it’s time. I just wish I could start the game fully loaded with 4000 chips lol.
Well I'm not entirely sure about your wish, but if you go to Password Continue at the title screen, look up some password on the Internet that may grant your wish.

This hack is insanely difficult, and enemies in this hack were buffed.
If anyone grew up watching 80s horror movies, I still to this day believe the boss GrimGrin got it’s inspiration from the horror movie Terror Vision.

In reply to Terrence Timmons - indeed, it's actually a very tough final boss for sure.
Many people would think it was gonna be an easy one, but there are 3! Blue, Orange and Green (red palette in this case), the missiles go *_insanely fast_* and nearly nothing but EE can stop them. Not to mention it dealt a lot of damage to the player.

For me, the OG final boss was way easier.
@@Charly9631e When I first saw the final boss reveal, I was like, "Really? Gliders??" But then I saw the battle and was impressed. Optomon really brought out the potential in those things!
This would be a good challenge for me, having played the original TGL for over 20 years and still going.
Yep, this would be a real challenge for those who are really good at the original game. This one right here, the creator actually makes me think very hard before buying an appropriate items, because every item is pretty much barely enough to max level

Finally after quitting years ago at the GrimGrin in the room, I finally completed this brutally difficult rom hack.
This game is a legend
Cool, but the gun is way too fast at the beginning. What I love about the original is a legitimate challenge. Also, are the baddies weaker, or is the fire rate just that much faster?
The enemies are pretty much the same, except for new enemies having stronger attacks along with better defense (due to the player have less attack amount)
And the creator of this hack pretty much make everything BARELY get to the 3rd level as well.
Fire rate is the same, and at the beginning I actually "cheated" by using a turbo controller because... I actually grew up with a turbo controller from a bootleg Famicom console, about the same as this rate of fire.
Eventually later in the game when you have enough turbo fire item, your rate will increase up to 60 press per second, just like in Zanac on NES as well (you know it was also made by Compile as well)
Turbo controllers give the rapid ability right away.
Yeah, it depends on what kind of turbo controller you use, and how many presses per seconds it presses when you hold the button. Mine is actually fast, so... yeah.
Man this game is heavily modified lol. And how in the world did you get 6000 chips? I like how the last boss was so fast you had to rapidly use your erasures lol. Nice job beating the last boss with 0 energy lol
I haven't played this game for a long time, but if I remember correctly, Optomon - the creator of the hack - actually added 1 more red lander so it increases your max chip from 4000 to 6000. And yeah the missiles it released has equivalent damage to the green missiles, so the only option is to use the EE in order to get rid of them without getting hit (although I still get a little bit of hit because of how fast it went).

Hard to tell all of the differences, but I noticed that there were more difficult bosses in a lot of areas. Like in some of the labyrinths, a mini-boss would be replaced by one of the ones from one of the dungeons. It also looks like there are more enemies in general, and that they do more damage.
Most notably at 2:15:11 where the goddamn final boss of the original came to play earlier.
First time I played, I almost had a heart attack seeing good ol' lobster skull.
@@EricPudalov Also, there were the addition of Orange bosses which seemed to be the most difficult class for many of the original bosses. As well, there was an overall speed increase in many of the enemies.

I cannot get corridor 4 to open. I go south, north, and west like the lander instructed and just like you did in the video, but it won't open. Sad.
Did you come from the East first? I think that’s probably an issue if you don’t come from that direction.

This game easily had some of the best music for NES games.

1) The music key and any key changes must remain the same as the original
2) The tempo must remain the same as the original.

Not only that but they appear to sometimes separate a length from the ship??

@@Charly9631e repeller provides amazing defense against grimgrin's projectiles. place it between you and grimgrin. i've used it to great effect in vertical, and i think it may work out in labyrinth mode as well.
I also think i may be possible to max out enemy erasers and maybe even consecutive firing withe the diagonal pyramid trick. for the former you must get a pyramid to drop in thhe right spot, and for the latter i think you can reveal it from one side withe a saber, then glitch through the wall on the opposite side. maybe.
