At Crow Valley every summer a Phoebe Nest was just above the screened porch door. As a kid, what fun hearing them Phoebe and see the nestling take off. Two a nests a years. Their first flight was so fun to watch. Stewartsville, NJ

Tim, what pin do you use make the swivel front door. Any instruction you have on creating the pivot front is appreciated.

Hi John. I use a section of a wire coat hanger for that. Typically the kind you would get from the drycleaners. This box is called a Gillwood nesting box. Google Steve Gillwood and you should find plans.

I wish you would do one that shows how to mount a very tall bird house (for owls) on a vertical tree limb (not hanging but mounting) so that it doesn't hurt the tree. It needs to be about 12-16 feet vertically off the ground. I am thinking of trying a combination of bungee cords and Cord Claw (ran across this; don't know if it would help); there are no limbs nearby to attach to so just the one vertical limb. It HAS to be mounted vertically. The tree is live and I don't want to hammer nails into it as arborists don't recommend it.

Can you place additional birdhouses houses near each other or do birds not like neighbors

Yes and no. It depends on the type of birdhouse you are putting up and the type of bird you are trying to attract with it. If you are able to give me more information about what type of birdhouse you are putting up I can tell you what will work best for your situation. Thanks much for the questions!
