Good job restoring the frame it looks great! I think you can buy replacement bags from Kelty that should fit your frame if not check out a military surplus store I'm sure an old alice will strap on there probably work better then a bucket anyway.
I know it's been a while, but I picked up a pack similar to this today and I want to update it. Do you have any idea who sells replacement shoulder straps for these types of packs?
Steve, since you seem to know more about this than I do, maybe you could tell me. Back in the mid-to-late 70's I have a Camp Trails pack on a frame like this one. It had two front-loading top & bottom compartments and four side pockets. The top front-loading compartment had a wire/rod support running under a narrow zipped top pocket. The bag and frame were green. I am very keen to find out what this model was called. Any ideas?
LOLOLOL GOOD HEAVENS !! I was all gettin' nostalgic and all, thinkin' you were gonna get another pack to go on that beautiful frame.......THEN YOU BUNGEE A GOSHDAM GARBAGE PAIL I ABOUTPEEDMYSELF !!
Does anyone know if there’s new aftermarket bags available for this frame? I have the same one but branded cabelas and I want a different bag for it. Can’t find any information about these so far
Hey this is just like my original RED Boy Scout backpack frame from 1969 !! I still have it. I just have to get a replacement waist strap as I got PHAT hahahahaha It's a great pack!! It has seen many a little scout homesick at camp in upstate New York. Oh those days. I'm looking at it right now
So disappointed in this video. I have the same pack from when I was in BSA. Probably have had it maybe 25 years. I recently used it to go camping with my son and will soon take it up near Yosemite. I was looking for a video to show if a Kelty waist strap can go on it. Maybe even the shoulder straps. Instead, I get a video of you putting a waste can on it. Ugh. The fabric of mine is still in great shape. I added some attachment straps to the outside. Then I'll spray some sealant on it. Hopefully I can figue out if I can put a new waist strap on it as the one that comes with it is still strong enough but slides a bit.
I have several of these packs. you can get the new shoulder straps and waist belt straps from Kelty (if they have them back in stock) and the fit fine. I use them for Scouts who show up for a Pack and Paddle leadership training. with no pack. 4 years now and they are working great. Now to figure out how to make new packs to hang on the frames as they are taking a beating and were old to start.

I hope you kept the original brand patch.
I am looking for an old one, disasembly it, sew a new pack with modern fabrics but keeping the frame. Has anyone done this before?
