      No, there is an unlimited amount of "copium" in the world. One of the most chilling scenes in "Erik the Viking" is when Atlantis is sinking and the king and his entourage are denying the fact that they are already sitting on the roof of the highest building. Even when sinking, they are pretending that everything was fine.

      They still have several nuclear power plants from the USSR era. The problem is that nuclear power plants cannot quickly change the level of energy production. To compensate for fluctuations in consumption, thermal power plants and hydroelectric power plants are needed, and they are the ones that are damaged.

      The Dniester Pumped Storage Power Station is a pumped storage hydroelectric scheme that uses the Dniester River for energy production. In 2009, the first generator was commissioned.
      The Perovo Solar Park is a 2 km² large 100 MWp photovoltaic power station located at Klyuchi. As of January 2012, the Perove Solar Park was the most powerful solar power plant in the world, Completed in 2011 then with all of Crimea taken over by Russlan in 2014.
      Klovski Descent 7 is a 168 m tall residential and commercial building that was completed in 2012.
      Multifunctional Complex Gulliver completed 2013 is a complex consists of a 35-story 162 m tall office building and an adjoining 10- to 16-story shopping mall with movie theaters, restaurants and other business and entertainment spots. Completed 2013!
      Parus Business Centre 156 m tall office building that was completed 2007!
      There are also the 101 Tower and various other tall buildings that were built in Ukraine after gaining independence from the Soviet Union.

    You know once again it occured to me, that once this kharkiv offensive began, and the Russian air force started to carry out operation in the north, all the ongoing operations basically either stopped or scaled back in progress by a large amount.
    While we are talking about mere days, still it leads me to beleive my assessment was right, that essentially the russian air force is incapable to focus and carry out operations on more than one front.

    • @AntN
      @AntN 17 дней назад +3

      That is possible. But, there may also be two other factors. This offensive in the north is made with small numbers. Looked like a large recon force that has found itself more successful than it thought but is still conducting operations at battalion level. For better or worse, it does not look at this stage that the Stavka want to reinforce here and push with larger numbers. So, because of the smaller numbers it may also mean a much larger requirement for air support. Second, across the last year where Russia has pressed, it tends to regroup and refresh stocks and troops (such as by cycling units out and units in) and then starting again. We'll have to wait and see if they start pushing again in a week or two.

      it is plausible. Every country has to make choices of where to be strong. Russia has chosen Missile defense, WMDs, Nuclear namely and strategic based weapons and Submarines and of course Ground forces. The Surface navy and aircrafts plus drones were not it appears a major focus. And now Drones are but the military operation does not call for Surface naval ships really and advancements in cruise missiles can render ships vulnerable as big targets. As it concerns aircraft I think drones rather than manned fighters is the way forward.

    Why does russia not commit forces all over the northern border with Ukraine?
    They have 1.2 million soldiers, they would not have to commit a large force, just enough to make the Ukrainians re-direct their forces from Donbas/eastern front then the Russians could apply pressure and win more ground in Donbas.
    They have, with only 4000 soldiers gained impressive ground in the north + the Russians know because of the corruption the Ukrainians have not fortified the border area sufficiently, why not take advantage?
    The risk now, when Ukrainians realise how easy it is for the Russians to stroll right in, especially if the summon a large force, that they will actually fortify their positions up north and make it a slow grind for the Russians.
