EXCELLENT video, product & support !! Highly recommend ! Got the dreaded Column Lock message on my 99 6-speed with 50K miles last week. Column was locked and thank God it happened in my garage so I could order the LMC5 and install later. No towing involved or having to work with a Chevy service department! Just completed the LMC5 install yesterday along with the Unlocker option. Excellent directions come with the part, but this video was also excellent to watch ahead of time (twice) as well as during the install from my iPad. Richard at Compliance Parts was also VERY helpful and responsive. This was just a GREAT experience. He had to walk me through one additional step of getting the locked mechanism on the column to free up, but the rest worked exactly as detailed in the instructions. For a total investment of $46 and less than an hour of my time, my car is back to normal. Sooooo much better (and cheaper) than having the car towed and having to go through the agony of working with a local dealer. GREAT product, GREAT support and confidence that the issue is resolved forever for a grand total of $46. Amazing. Thanks to Richard and Compliance Parts for healing my baby and putting the smile back on my face. Bob
I agree - Richard is THE MAN. I ran into a problem installing my LMC5 today, and Richard answered the phone when I called for help. I called him about 4 times until I finally overcame the problem. He was very caring and reassuring, and kept telling me not to worry, that we'll get it fixed. He was a pleasure to talk with, and very knowledgeable. This is a super company you can trust. 5 stars for Richard and Compliance Parts. From Alan in Florida
Thank you Compliance Parts for this module and incredibly easy step-by-step video! I had this issue on my '00 convertible (27k miles on the clock), complete with the fuel shut off at 2 mph. Took about 30 minutes to install this module from the time I grabbed my coffee to putting the floor mat back. Every C5 owner should make this fix to avoid getting stranded.
Thank you Richard!! You were very gracious and informative during our phone conversation, especially knowing that I called you very early in the morning. I promised I would leave a comment (better late than never) after installing the part on my '99 Corvette. Can't thank you enough sir, and have passed along your info to the other vette owners in my club!
Yeah, mine too, immediately after accidentally draining my battery. Seems to be a common time for them to go bad, from the research I've done on this issue.
Woohoo!!!!!! THANKS COMPLIANCE PARTS (RICHARD). I followed the instructions and the device worked just as promised. You have no idea how happy I am to have my Corvette back on the road. I will definitely be doing business with Compliance Parts again.
Thank you SO much Compliance Parts! After reading reviews and researching online, I decided to purchase LMC5 for my 2000 (C5) manual - column locked while I was parked in my driveway. I had no other problems (speed ok) and it will not unlock no matter what I tried. Compliance (Richard) responded to my desperation email on a SUNDAY and walked me thru the process to unlock the column since we were having a hard time with the Unlocker. He was eager to assist and I felt hopeful from his enthusiasm that it will work and it did. My Lil Red Vette is back on the road. I can't thank you all enough - AWESOME customer service. I'm going to recommend this kit to my Vette club and every Vette owner I know.
Great video. I agree with the comments below Richard is very helpful and solved my problem I had. Tip - when you disconnect the negative battery cable on your C5 Corvette take the plastic packaging the product came in and place it between the terminal and cable. This will hold the cable away from the terminal and prevent any possibility of the cable moving back while you are going in and out of the car.
Worked like a charm! I have a 2002 C5 six speed, that had the recall relay installed. Out of nowhere, the "service column lock" and "pull key wait 10 seconds" messages came up. Even though my steering wheel didn't lock up, the fuel would cut off after 2mph. I changed the battery, checked / reset all the fuses and still nothing. I called Richard at ComplianceParts, overnighted the LMC5 module, I installed it in 15 minutes (super clear instructions and easy) and voila my vette is running like a champ again and NO error messages. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Lifesaver, buy it before you get stuck somewhere like I did... recall repair is temporary.
Amazing! Just installed, Wish I would have done this first! 5 minutes to install! I had the K harness installed, Relay Replaced, and battery replaced/charged to 12.5v and was still receiving the pull keys error. This is the real deal!
Thank you so much for the tutorial. Very easy to follow along with the detailed voiced instructions. My Vette was at risk of locking up due to it making that steering column noice. I'm very happy with the product. Cheers!
2000 6 speed manual (14K miles) with the pull key 10 seconds and service column lock errors along with the engine cutout at 2 mph. Installed this in 10 minutes total (after watching this video twice) and errors gone and the car runs great. Note that the dealership had this car for weeks several years ago for this same problem but it cropped up after sitting in storage for 6 months.
GREAT TALKING TO YOU AND THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR LISTENING TO ME ABOUT MY BYPASS KIT I PUT IN MY CORVETTE! I TALKED TO MUCH BUT I WAS NERVOUS 😓 YOU ARE GREAT !!!! CORVETTE CAROL Stay safe!
Only one day in, but product seems to have solved my problem. Thanks to Richard for great phone support as I had some issues with installation. Those green plastic clips on my car basically fell apart as I was removing them for one (car is 15 years old and sat unused for 9 in a garage). I also needed to do the wheel unlock even though my wheel had come unlocked just by sitting and I thought it was ok. It actually locked when I started it after installing the LMC5. Richard explained the problem on the phone and after using the unlocking device all seems well. One other caveat, for reasons I don't know, the hex tool had to be turned slightly sideways when pushing it into the hole on the terminals in order to free up the wires. Putting it in straight on my car was not working. I had to turn it sideways so it was sort of scraping against the side of the opening to get it to release the wires.
I installed yesterday. Took me a little while. I am over weight and getting around in the Passenger foot well was a challenge ... but after all was said and done drove today.... no errors... Talked to customer service ... same person who made the video.. called me right after sending him an email. I wish everyone spoke such good clear English.
The instructions are great. Would advise you read them thoroughly. It took me several tries to unlock my steering column. Compliance parts staff were amazing at talking me through the process even after it several attempts to u stick the thing. January 2024
I have a 1997 c5 and i had the recall done. I let the car sit for a winter and re installed the car battery. I got the error service column lock. I also got the dreaded 2mph fuel cut off. I was at a loss. I didnt want to pay someone to fix my car because i knew if i brought it to a dealership it would be a good hard lip biting screw. So it took me a few years before I stumbled upon this gem. I installed it yesterday and i have finally put my car in 2nd gear for the first time in 4 years. 20 minutes and 50$ is all it took to fix this gremlin. Thank you so much. Bought mine on Vettenuts.net
Looks like someone hit the unlike button by accident. How could you unlike this? I just installed this in my car and this little $46 part has my car running again with no issues :D
@complianceparts Richard, although this write up is an excellent help, I think it really should be mentioned that the CL relay needs to be disconnected prior to installing the LCM5 in this video. I, like many I found on the forums, trusted this video to explain the install instead of looking at the printed instructions. As a result, I did not disconnect the relay and my previously functioning column locked up on me and made me go back to the forums to figure out what had gone wrong. Thankfully, I found information about connecting the battery directly to the relay to unlock the column. Anyway, great product. Just was surprised that this essential step was left out of an otherwise thorough video.
just ordered one. I got the Service column lock message but car still drives normal. I lucked out and was able to get her home. She's my secondary car, so there she sits till I get the lmc5
Is installation same as if my car has factory recall work on it? When I put my keys in I don’t hear any locking sounds and my steering wheel turns freely with key is out.
Bought a C5 recently as the VIS check shows that recall 04006 was never performed. Dealer had to order parts to perform the recall and I'm still waiting and waiting and waiting. I'm installing the LMC5 now for peace of mind.
I just had this column lock issue on my 2003 Z06. I researched the forums and concluded that the LMC5 was the best solution. I called 855-565-8388 Compliance Parts and spoke with Richard who is the same person in this video. I ordered the part on Monday and received the part on Thursday. $40 part and $7 shipping. During my initial call with Richard he instructed me on how to unlock the column to prepare the car for the LMC5 install. Richard is a very personable guy - very pleasant to talk to and eager to help. When my LMC5 arrived on Thursday I called Richard again to let him know my part had arrived and he gave me a few simple preparation instructions to follow to begin the install. The LMC5 comes with some very good instructions with easy to follow diagrams. The installation was surprisingly easy even for a 59 yr old guy like me with bad vision. I just finished the install - took the car out for a test drive and everything is great. This is a real solution for this problem for very little money and effort. I can't think Richard enough for his help through this process from start to finish.
SO WONDERFUL TO READ EVERYONES REMARKS IM ORDERING MINE TOMORROW ! SAME ISSUE ON MY 2000 CORVETTE PAID CHEVY 1,500 TO FIX WENT BAD 3 TIMES THEY TOLD ME NEVER WANTED TO WORK ON OLDER CORVETTR AGAIN ! FIND A SPECILIST!! 2 YEARS IT RUNS , THEN GETS SERVICE COLUMN LOCK THEN WAIT 10 SECONDS PULL KEY OUT WHAT A JOKE ON ME IM A WOMEN WHO LOVES CARS LUCKILY HAVE MY OLD TRUCK thank you!!! Going to get part and put in myself after I get it , with that wonderful video (2 I memorized everything to fix I will let you know! Wish me luck!! Carol
I had it happen to me at a valet a while back. Embarrassing. Pulled up in a black c5 all waxed with roof off. I go inside and the valet guys comes in to get me to tell me the car won’t start in the valet driveway blocking cars. . I tried starting it and sure enough it said service column lock and wouldn’t move. My car had only 40,000 at the time and I had the gm bypass recall done already. I installed the lmc5 after about 2 years after that episode when I went for an oil change and the guy couldn’t drive the car off the ramps. It would shut the gas off at 2mph and say pull key wait 10 seconds and service column lock. I installed this and so far for 20,000 or so miles my car runs and starts. They are on eBay for $46 and recommend to put them in before you have this issue as a preventative. Especially if you are away from home and it happens. Your fuked. A dealer won’t install the lmc5. They’ll do some other bs and charge you $800 and it’ll happen again a few months later.
Hello Richard, This happened to my 99 Coupe a year ago and has not reoccurred. I was desperate when it locked up, and read that if you violently jerk the steering wheel from left to right, it will break free. Fortunatley it worked! question is, is there a chance that it could happen again, and should I order the part and install it? I value your opinion and appreciate your time. Thank sir!
97 corvette. I get the service column lock message, but I have driven it for a month without problems...except for the message. Can I just keep driving or will it eventually lock up in the middle of nowhere? Chevy dealer wants $675 for steering column lock actuator. Is that the official Chevy fix and yours is a cheaper work around? Or, even if I paid the Chevy dealer to fix it, would I still have to buy your LMC5 kit? Where do I buy your kit?
Simple install and hardware! I have owned my 2001 since 2008 with no issue but I think I will handle this before it becomes one. Link to order this device please? Is this the only hardware device which can fix this issue? As I will be taking a quick look to see if anything else is in place before ordering the device. Thanks in advance.
I was curious as to why the part about unfastening the top left plug above the LMC was not included in your video. I hooked everything up according to your instructions only to find my column NOW LOCKED in place. I pulled that left side plug (with all the proper colored wires out and the car worked fine. This was after trying to put everything back the way it was. I went to the instructions and found I was missing the part about disconnecting that plug. I disconnected it and everything is as right as rain. I have yet to see if it triggers the 2 mph situation. I didn't put the C5 lcm in. It's on the car w/ tools though just in case. Explain?
Just got the message the other day. Question posted asking about a manual ( 6 speed ) Is the installation the same ? Is that a manual your demoing on ?
Did you get a reply for the "brown wire mod"...I installed this fix for the column lock about 2 years ago, worked great...but now I am getting the "pull the key and wait 10 sec." fault, is there a separate fix for that...or is there a separate brown wire of the LCM5 fix ?
Wow so I’m going to the computer I see the previous owner had already put the LMC5 already should I replace it again ???or assuming that it’s the starter
My entire experience has been good but my problem is not solved I have blamed myself for it not working so I took it out and did it all over slowly and carefully and I still get the 10 sec pull key every time and steering column lock once in a while. The lcm5 may be working right but I have heard too many horror stories about losing steering on the freeway that I just cant ignore those warnings that come up.Any suggestions? I have re moved and re-installed 3 times just in case I made the mistake but it's not me. Any suggestions would be appreciated I might just cut that pin out of the steering lock for my own sanity .
I have the same issue, I don't believe it has anything to do with lmc5, most likely it's going to be switch or key, the lmc5 is heaven sent, GM needs to learn from Richard.
Yes it will. When it happens once it will eventually lock up and your car will quit running. It disables the fuel pump. It just happened to me last week. They sell the kit for unlocking the steering wheel and the one that bypasses the service column and the pull key wait 10 seconds error. Mine got so bad it happened every time I started my car and I couldn't drive it over 2 mph. I installed it and I am back driving it again. Look on ebay it's $46
@@garrettt8782 You need the unlocker. Mines did it today after 3 years having this installed. My battery died 2 days ago. I jumped the car and now the service column lock lights on. But after I charged the battery up and disconnected the battery and reconnected it the service column lock light went off. I guess the computer needed to be reset after a stone dead battery. I thought my lmc5 failed after 3 plus years.
installed as per instructions, nothing changed, rechecked work and seemed all correct still same problem. watched you tube on install, went back after a week and removed lmc unit and then re-installed as per instructions and checked work, all ok, still did not work, replaced battery with 800cca battery and still same issue. never hear the column lock ever engage and the wheel turns freely, but message still exits. email lmc for service and suggestions, never returned call or email. this product did not work for me after hours of effort and troubleshooting.
I had the same problem. Did the brown wire and still the same problem. Both of the fuses had blown for my seats and I changed them and the car runs great now.
EXCELLENT video, product & support !! Highly recommend !

Great video, just installed in my 2002 Z06 and now it is running again. Great product very simple to install.
Thank you very much. I was fortunate on my failure because it stranded me right at home in the parking lot. Thanks again I've already ordered it.
Yeah, mine too, immediately after accidentally draining my battery. Seems to be a common time for them to go bad, from the research I've done on this issue.
These guys rock! They are available for you and the product works great. Worth every penny on my ZO6.

Cheers!
Installed a LMC5 today. This is the best video to follow.
2000 6 speed manual (14K miles) with the pull key 10 seconds and service column lock errors along with the engine cutout at 2 mph. Fantastic Richard! Fantastic service and product! You're the best!!
Thanks for the informative installation video. Going to purchase before I have issues. Kudos
What an excellent tutorial video! I ordered mine today. I have the pull key and wait message every single time I go start the car.
The instructions are great. Would advise you read them thoroughly. It took me several tries to unlock my steering column. Compliance parts staff were amazing at talking me through the process even after it several attempts to u stick the thing. January 2024
Getting ready to install mine and get my car back on the road. Thanks for the video!
Thank you so much, just installed and will drive my car soon!
worked like a charm on my 98 c5 very easy to install easy intructions and great customer service from richard...two thumbs up!!!!
I have a 1997 c5 and i had the recall done. I let the car sit for a winter and re installed the car battery. I got the error service column lock. I also got the dreaded 2mph fuel cut off. Nice review bro I followed your review to sit very detailed again nice job
Thank You for your in-depth tutorial... Very very helpful
Great video! I followed all your instructions. It worked prefect. Thank you!
What about the brown wire? I installed this over the weekend and still get the wait 10 seconds...
This guy is good, very thorough
God bless you Richard
Thanks for the help rich! Amazing video sir
GREAT VIDEO!!!
FAST SHIPPING, THANKS A LOT!!!
Thanks. Ordered today. Shame on GM for not fixing this.
The "fix" is a bypass that may not be a legal option for GM. A real fix might be redesigning and building a new body module.
you probably just kept me from having a future bad day, thanks
Nice, clean, vid, Great job on this and thank you.
Fantastic instructions thank you
Straight to the point..nice job
Looks like someone hit the unlike button by accident. How could you unlike this? I just installed this in my car and this little $46 part has my car running again with no issues :D
The person who hit the unlike button was the guy who paid a dealership hundreds of dollars and still has the same problem. Sour grapes..
THANK YOU SO MUCH.. took me 15 min
Excellent video I just purchase the kit, hope it works on my 99 c5 vert!
Fixed it thanks for fast shipping

very helpful thank you, mine is '98 and has no relay.
Great instructions!
Excellent, thank you.
I have not had the locking problem on my 2001 C5, would you recommend I install the LMC5 unit?
This video was done on a automatic I presume?
What tool did you use to pop the wires out of the bcm connectors? Awesome product!
Explain?
My car has one of these installed and it has a capped brown wire and another looped brown wire. what are these wires for?
what if you have a manual c5 corvette,i read your suppose to unplug steering column lock relay.do you reconnect it back?or leave it dissconnected?
Leave it disconnected, per the instructions that came with mine.
Did you happen to remove the relay that is sitting on top of the footwell
Good luck if you need tech assistance...3 calls non returned over a weeks time and now their voice mail is full and cannot leave a message.
What differences do we encounter when working on a 6-speed?
where are you located. I dont have fingers that would work to fix this. I would gladly pay
I have the pull key wait 10 seconds problem but no column lock. Does that mean it's going to eventually lock the column??
GR8 video clip
Just got the message the other day. Question posted asking about a manual ( 6 speed )
Is the installation the same ? Is that a manual your demoing on ?
I installed the L.M.C.5module it work, but the unlocker didn't work I'm made as hell.
How about the brown wire mod?
Did you get a reply for the "brown wire mod"...I installed this fix for the column lock about 2 years ago, worked great...but now I am getting the "pull the key and wait 10 sec." fault, is there a separate fix for that...or is there a separate brown wire of the LCM5 fix ?
Wow so I’m going to the computer I see the previous owner had already put the LMC5 already should I replace it again ???or assuming that it’s the starter
If the car doesn't crank, it's got nothing to do with the steering column lock issue.
the green wire won t come out of his slot in the pink connector, why and what to do I can not complete the job?
Just had this happen to and wheel locked. Pulled fuse and reset and it's been fine last couple days. Will this kit prevent this from happening again?
Yes it will. When it happens once it will eventually lock up and your car will quit running. It disables the fuel pump. It just happened to me last week. They sell the kit for unlocking the steering wheel and the one that bypasses the service column and the pull key wait 10 seconds error. Mine got so bad it happened every time I started my car and I couldn't drive it over 2 mph. I installed it and I am back driving it again. Look on ebay it's $46
I had the same done and then got stuck in a parking lot for three hours waiting for a tow truck
I just order mine i will give news once i receive parts.
So you DO NOT reconnect the column lock relay? It stays unplugged?
Yes, stays unplugged
I have a problem after installation...
my steering column is locked now...
Any suggestions?
Mike D this exact thing happened to me. Anyone have suggestions? I am going to try simply reinstalling
@@garrettt8782 You need the unlocker. Amazon sells them with the LMC5

Went to install this and there is already one installed but I’m getting 2 mph stall and remove key error.
I saw a video where the guy installed the brown wire as well, as a mod. You may want to check it out.
I had the same problem. Did the brown wire and still the same problem. Both of the fuses had blown for my seats and I changed them and the car runs great now.
Installed it . But it still stays pull key for 10 seconds and fuel cuts off
The Stack Boy you probably did it wrong.
wheir do you get the kit
Where can I get this kit?
Ms Bandit they have a website, that's where I bought mine
Nothing worked for me, finally just had someone to reprogram my pcm to adjust the 2 mph cutoff to 200 mph. Problem solved
