This series was an ART. I was drawn to it, from the trailer until episode 9. Every scenes, scenery, dialogue, flashbacks were immaculate for me. The chemistry between the past and present Yae and Harumichi was so good as well. Ofc Ms Utada Hikaru’s song. Everyone did so great. Definitely one of my favorite drama series! They captured and delivered the First Love vibe we are all familiar with. ❤😊

I agree on the part where most of the jdorama are made for the domestic market. IMO the usual drama acting they have for domestic audiences doesn't really attract the taste of the foreign ones. Their expressions like ehhh are cringey to foreigners including me and for 98% of the live action adaptation of anime or manga it's even more cringey it doesn't translate to real life (idk how to explain it well) unless it's of the comedy genre. I used to love jdorama until early late 2000s but for the last decade it's a bit hard for me to get several good dramas or movie in a year.
On the other hand, those dramas targeted at international audiences are good.

Korean dramas are popular becasue they are basically westernized compare old korean dramas to modern ones you would see difference. Jdramas won't appeal globally since they are more subtle, more on themes, use metapors, dialogue heavy in short substance over style.

By the end of episode 8, I was so impressed by the way the five senses were weaved into the storyline to try and evoke Yae's 'involuntary' memories - the lilacs, their initial meeting, napolitan, the kiss, finally culminating in the First Love listening with her son. It felt like the pieces finally fit together, I love how they were fulfilling their dreams in the ending credits too. I finished the series over the last 3 days but already I can't wait to rewatch it all again so I can appreciate all the finer details!

The director/writer should be extremely proud. Everything was so well weaved together and the characters were portrayed so rawly. There are just some arts one sees that leave you without the words to describe just how marvelous it is. This is up there with the great love stories. Think The Notebook, Titanic, Forest Gump, etc. Id love to see more from the director/writer but if this is her most succesful film then she should be content for life. There are little people who can translate emotion with such essence of art. Well done.

this is the only show in my life where I immediately watched the whole series again, but only after wiping up all my tears from the first viewing! such a great show. the art, the story, the acting.... it was spectacular.

The acting and scenery in this mini series was absolutely stunning. The colors and the way the environment was shot is pure art. The acting blended well with that so well, that you barely notice it. But you definitely feel it in the emotions you feel. It was pure joy to watch this drama, one of the best I’ve watched in 10 years. Exquisite job! ❤️❤️❤️

It was a perfect roller coaster of emotions. All the effort of the director can be seen and is much appreciated. The colors, the clothes, the food, the sounds. Everything gets tangled in a clever and sensitive storyline and the acting is impeccable. I am watching for the second time already and you can notice even more details. Perhaps I'll watch it a third time? Thank you for giving life to this masterpiece. I absolutely love the fact that the director is a woman and so young! Very inspiring!

The last 2 episodes were amazing closing scenes. Combined with the stunning musical background, and the timed pauses between scenes were perfect. It's hard to find a show that brings out so much emotions. I felt my heart and breathing were twisted back and forth. Feelings of sadness, frustration, struggle, and happiness.

This was the best drama I've watched for years. Not only the way it was made, detailed, beautifully, with a certain softness and realness. But also the way the story was written and how it unfolds in front of the viewer, piece by piece, like a puzzle until the ending of the 8th episode, it does feel like you explore/remember their story with Yae together. The actors were phenomenal, the male leads (both) were so brilliant. How everything fitted together was so perfectly made, I'm still speechless and in love with it. Thank you so much for making it. It was a beautiful experience to watch it.

Loved this series!!! you can instantly see and feel the care and effort they put in every aspect. One of my favourite things was how the color palette changed based on the character. Noguchi usually uses blues, Harumichi grayish, his family reds, and Noguchi's son is a combination of white and blue from his parents. I will definetly watch this again

As a 41 yr old the song already pulled me straight back to my teenage yrs, back to the one I loved and I think that’s why this series made me laugh and cry so hard, felt the pain of losing that person you thought you would be with forever at that age, they had a better ending than mine but not without a lot of pain in between. Will definitely watch it again when I’m ready to cry again

I had the urge to rewatch this series again recently and I'm truly glad I did. I felt the same way I did when I first watched it. I've watched many Filipino, American, and even Korean Dramas but for me, this masterpiece is the best by a long shot. The colors, the subtle details in acting and sets, the acting of the young versions which you can really appreciate the realness of puppy love, being so smitten of each other, and the acting of the older version, which exude the deep, complex emotions of longing but still keeping up the maturity in handling their experiences, and just a beautiful sequencing of small, subtle everyday life stories that make up the entirety of this beautiful love story is just pure art that I cannot help but to fall in love every time I watch this.

I cherish this love story even more after realizing many details throughout the whole process. Thank you the whole team for a beautiful timeless story. One of my buckest lists definitely is to tell Hikari Mitsushima how I felt about the whole story if one day I meet her!
