Thanks for sharing. I might reuse empty milk bottles. Btw 99 cent for vinegar sounds super cheap.
You’re welcome 😊
Thanks for sharing George. I will definitely be using this recipe. way cheaper than buying traps.
Definitely cheaper!
We make a fruit fly mix which works fantastic, have not had fruit fly attack our fruit or veg since using it for the last 12 yrs.
In milk/vinegar, etc containers, mix 1 or 2 tsp dry yeast (attracts the females), cheapest lemon or orange cordial, abit of coka cola ( attracts males), vinegar, a few drops dishwashing liquid, water.
Fill containers half way, use a small drill bit to make at least 10 - 15 holes.
Important to make tiny holes, you dont want bees & other beneficial insects getting in & drowning in the mixture!!
Like George, we also tie them to the actual fruit trees & place in garden beds.
Thanks for the recipe,I need to make at least 10 of those bottles to trap the fruit fly it's already got into my nectarines and plums.
Sounds like you're in NSW or Qld, go for 30 bottles :)
@RealLifeFruitopia The fruits fly is notorious here.
Wow. Thank you so much for sharing. I can’t wait to try in my garden this coming spring.
Have fun!
